English Women's Super League expanding to 14 teams from 2026
June 16 (Reuters) - The English Women's Super League (WSL) will expand from 12 to 14 teams from the 2026-27 season, WSL Football said on Monday, and a promotion/relegation playoff will be introduced. The changes, subject to approval by the FA Board, mean that two teams will be automatically promoted from the second-tier WSL2 next season and the third-placed club in tier two will face the bottom club in WSL in a playoff. From the 2026-27 season onwards, the 13th-placed side in the top division will meet the runners-up of WSL2 in a promotion/relegation playoff, and the WSL's bottom club will be relegated and replaced by the winners of the second division. "Expanding the WSL to 14 teams will stimulate movement between leagues and through the pyramid which increases opportunities," WSL CEO Nikki Doucet said. "The introduction of a promotion/relegation playoff creates distinction for the women's game and introduces a high-profile, high stakes match."

2025 Royal Ascot Specials: What colour will the Queen's hat be and more royal bets
It's Royal Ascot this week, with one of the social highlights of the summer beginning on Tuesday, 17 June at the famous racecourse. The event has long been famed as one of the highlights of the year in horse racing, offering 35 top-quality races across five days, including eight Group 1 contests. But plenty of the festival's draw lies in its history and ties to the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth II never missed the event during her reign and had 22 winners, the last of which was Tactical in 2020. King Charles and Queen Camilla have carried on the Royals' patronage of the event, enjoying their first winner with Desert Hero in 2023, and reports suggest that the pair could attend all five days of the festival in 2025. And while horse racing betting sites are already primed and running plenty of Royal Ascot offers and promos focused on the racing, there are those bookmakers offering Royal Ascot specials aimed at the involvement of Charles and Camilla, including a market on the colour of attire and whether the Royals will saddle a winner this week. Royal Ascot Specials Betting: Queen to go for blue? One Royal Ascot special market offered by betting sites, such as William Hill, is on the colour of the Queen's hat on the opening day, during what will be the 200th Royal Procession. In 2024, Camilla wore an all-blue outfit, including a blue hat, as the King and Queen began the week's action, and bookies are backing her to repeat the same hat colour for 2025, with odds of 5/2. Colour of the Queen's Hat on Day 1 of Royal Ascot Odds Blue 5/2 Pink 4/1 Yellow 5/1 Brown 7/1 White 7/1 Green 7/1 Purple 14/1 Black 16/1 The Queen wore a white hat on other days last year, and odds are 7/1 that it will be the colour of choice on Tuesday. Pink and yellow are the other popular options at 4/1 and 5/1, with shouts of green, brown and white offered at longer odds of 7/1. The colour of the King's tie is the other dress-related market on offer, with blue again the favourite at 7/4. *Odds supplied by William Hill Last year, Charles opted for a light blue tie along with a standard grey suit, and the bookies reckon the King might go for a similar choice in 2025. Pink is the next option at 5/2, with yellow, purple and green offered at 4/1, 7/1 and 10/1 respectively. Given the King and Queen generally choose to colour coordinate their hat and tie combo, those wanting to have a bet on these markets on Royal Ascot betting sites may want to consider doubling up on the colour of their choice. Royals hoping for more Ascot success Perhaps the most interesting of the markets relating to the Royals is the 'owner' market, with odds of 5/4 that a horse owned by the King and Queen will win over the course of the festival. In 2025, the Royals' main hope could be Reaching High, a horse trained by Willie Mullins, who is the 7/2 favourite for the Ascot Stakes in the Royal Ascot odds at the time of publishing. The King's Falcon could also be running in the Golden Gates Stakes as the Royals look to bounce back after a winless Royal Ascot in 2024. Responsible gambling It's vital to practice responsible gambling. When using gambling sites be aware that sports betting can be addictive. Please take steps to remain in control of your time and budget. The same applies whether you're using new betting sites, slot sites, casino sites, casino apps, betting apps, or any other gambling medium. Even the most knowledgeable punter can lose a bet, so always stick to a budget and never chase your losses. It's particularly important not to get carried away by any free bets or casino offers you might receive, both of which are available in abundance on gambling sites, but must be approached with caution. You can stay in control by making use of the responsible gambling tools offered, such as deposit limits, loss limits, self-exclusion and time-outs. Royal Ascot Day 1 each-way tips and best accumulator
Our expert tipster Ron Wood has picked his best each-way bet for the opening day of Royal Ascot, as well as an accumulator that offers a potential return of almost 280/1. If you already have a Sky Bet account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. Royal Ascot Day 1 each-way tips The best each-way bet on the opening day of Royal Ascot is LEAD ARTIST in the Queen Anne Stakes (2.30), a one-mile Group 1 contest that kicks off the whole meeting. Ascot's straight track is best suited to horses who travel strongly and stay the trip thoroughly, and this John and Thady Gosden-trained runner ticks both of those boxes. The selection is still progressing and comes into this race off the back of a Group 1 success over this trip in the Lockinge at Newbury, where he kept on well and had three of today's rivals behind him. Royal Ascot features eight Group 1 races, three of them on the first day, and there are 35 races in total across this five-day fixture, which also includes competitive handicaps and two-year-old races. Check out the Sky Bet promo code Royal Ascot Day 1 accumulator tips As well as Lead Artist looking a good each-way bet, there are three other horses who appeal as worth including with the Gosdens' runner in a multiple – a four-fold accumulator. The second selection is REGIONAL in the King Charles III Stakes (3.40). He did well to finish second in this 5f sprint last year considering he had a tricky track position throughout and he shaped well after a long absence when third over 6f in Dubai in March. Regional was just behind the winner, Believing, on that occasion and he can be expected to build on that. He also finished ahead of the same rival in this race 12 months ago. FIELD OF GOLD, another for the Gosdens, is odds-on for the St James's Palace Stakes (4.20), but he's the best horse in the race by some way and doesn't actually look a bad price for a short one. The final leg of the multiple is the Willie Mullins-trained REACHING HIGH in the Ascot Stakes (5.00), a 2m 4f handicap. He is likely to improve now that he steps up significantly in trip. It will be disappointing if these horses aren't in the mix so it looks worth trying to take advantage of some generous place terms being offered by Sky Bet by putting them in an each-way accumulator.
