Jonathan Joss: Three roles the King of the Hill star was known for
US actor Jonathan Joss, known for his roles in King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, has died aged 59. Joss was shot dead, in what his husband called a homophobic hate crime, although police in Texas say there is no evidence of this. Joss's broad career spanned different genres and platforms, appearing in films, sitcoms, animations, stage productions and more.He has been credited with increasing representation of Native Americans on screen. Here are three of the notable performances he will be remembered for.
John Redcorn in King of the Hill
In the animated sitcom King of the Hill, Goss voiced the character of John Redcorn, a Native American "licensed New Age healer" from season two onwards. The sitcom centres around the Hill family and is set in the fictional town of Arlen, in suburban Texas. For the first four seasons, Redcorn is having an affair with Hank Hill's neighbour, Nancy Gribble. Nancy's husband Dale is oblivious. While a flawed character, Redcorn is known for his kindness and calm persona, and for championing his Native American heritage. In season four, during perhaps his most notable storyline, Redcorn reveals an ongoing battle between his tribe and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, saying he hoped to regain Native American land from the government.Considering Redcorn a "true friend", Dale decides to help him with the lawsuit filed against the government, by introducing him to the Freedom of Information Act.Redcorn then permanently ends his14-year affair with Nancy, out of respect for Dale. The affair is not revealed to Dale and he happily heads home with Nancy.

Author Dustin Tahmahkera once described Redcorn as "arguably the most developed and complex indigenous character in US sitcom history, thanks in critical part... to the on-and-offscreen work of Joss".In his 2014 book Tribal Television, which considered the representation of Native Americans in sitcoms, Tahmahkera added that the portrayal "attempted to break through a largely unkind and unflattering history of representations of the indigenous".But the fact that Redcorn was the "most human and multidimensional" Native American on screen was "a disheartening and stark reminder of the history of indigenous representations in network television", Tahmahkera pointed out. King of the Hill originally aired from 1997 to 2010. The sitcom is set to return in August with the characters aged and living a new part of their lives.
Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation
Joss's onscreen role as Native American tribe leader Chief Ken Hotate was a fan favourite in this live-action sitcom. The Chief's sharp dress sense matched his comedic wit, and he was often seen teasing the core characters as they struggled to tell if his straight-faced comments were deadly serious or a complete joke. Chief Hotate often met Leslie Knope, deputy director of the Parks and Recreation department for the fictional city of Pawnee, to discuss use of the land. He would often use stereotypes associated with Native Americans to his advantage, for example when opposing a festival organised on an ancient burial site by saying he hoped his ancestors "don't put a curse" on the event. White people are "terrified of curses", he explained to the camera in a tongue-in-cheek aside. As with King of the Hill, Joss's character was dedicated to defending tribal ancestry, and would often highlight injustices faced by his community.Parks and Recs creators used Joss's character with a "really witty kind of self awareness", said Samantha Sheppard, associate professor of cinema and media studies at Cornell University."Parks and Rec loved to kind of reckon with the fact that despite the very good intentioned and warm-hearted, generous public servant that was Leslie Knope, and the folks who worked for the city, that the city still existed on indigenous land, and therefore had to account for those violences and that history," Prof Sheppard told the BBC. His role made light of the sensitive issues in a way that made the difficult topic of America's ugly history with indigenous groups more "accessible", Prof Sheppard said. "There was this kind of cheeky awareness of stereotypical representations of Native Americans on screen," she said, referring to the dichotomy of Chief Hotate also being a casino owner."I think it did pave the way for, like, other kinds of indigenous storytelling to happen."
Denali in The Magnificent Seven
Taking on a darker role, Joss portrayed the ruthless Denali in 2016's The Magnificent Seven. A retelling of a 1960s Western of the same name, a group of gunslingers come together to protect the town of Rose Creek, which is under threat from a tycoon wanting to mine the ground for gold.Denali, exiled from the Comanche tribe, becomes a personal assassin to the tycoon, and is seen firing arrows and in hand-to-hand combat. "When people ask me what I thought of the movie, I tell them that all I know is my dad would have loved it," Joss told MySanAntonio: a news outlet local to his home town at the time of the film's release.

Louise Redknapp, 50, flaunts her age-defying physique in a black bikini as she enjoys a girls' trip to Manhattan
Louise Redknapp flaunted her age-defying physique in a black bikini as she enjoyed a girls' trip to Manhattan on Sunday. The singer, 50, looked incredible in the album of holiday snaps, as she stunned in her swimwear which she layered under a white shirt and paired with long black shorts. She appeared in high spirits for her trip as she could be seen posing in front of the Big Apple's famous skyline. Louise and her friend also shared a picture looking very glamourous in a white dress which featured a choker design. Alongside her fun Instagram post in the states, the blonde beauty penned: 'A little girls trip with Sue'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Louise's trip comes after the singer revealed if there are wedding bells on the horizon with her younger boyfriend, Drew Michael. The happy couple have been dating since October 2023 and have gone from strength to strength. The singer moved on with Drew after her split from Jamie Redknapp in 2017 after 19 years of marriage. They share two children together Charlie, 20, and William, 16. Now in a new interview as she releases her new album Louise has gushed over her partner after her tough marriage breakdown and spoken candidly about their future plans. She told The Sun: 'Drew's great. We're having a lovely time together. It took me a long time to get to that place and be open about anything. 'I was very guarded and scared. But I'm really enjoying having special times with someone. He's a great guy and super-kind.' Asked if there are wedding bells on the horizon she added: 'Oh, I'm not even thinking that far ahead. I'm not even going there. 'I just want to be proud of this and I want to really enjoy it. I've met a really great guy and I'm really happy. But you never know what the future holds.' She added in the interview that her two sons really get on well with Drew which makes life much easier. Louise also hit back at 'toyboy' criticism due to their nine-year age gap. She said being branded a 'cougar' is 'water off a duck's back' to her and that 'age is irrelevant' as she doesn't 'feel older than him'. The interview comes after she recently revealed why she was painted as the 'villain' following her split from ex-husband Jamie. Louise opened up about being accused of walking out on her family and how everyone had an 'opinion'. She told the Independent: 'I was the villain. I'd been lucky in my career because for many years I didn't really have a lot of scrutiny. Then bang, everybody's got an opinion.' 'Anything someone could perceive as negative, I cut out. Nothing I said was right. To defend myself was wrong. To not defend myself was wrong. I felt like I was walking up a one-way street with just nowhere to go on it.' Elsewhere Louise said she is now ready to push out of her comfort zone and she even features a number of 'sex noises' in her new single. She is preparing to release a new album Confessions and is really adamant about making 'progressive music' instead of being 'nostalgic'. Louise said she doesn't care what people think despite friends questioning whether there are 'too many sex noises' in her new track Get Into It, which features moans of ecstasy. Speaking about co-writer Jon Shave, who worked on Charli XCX's album Brat, she said: 'I got a text from Jon asking, "Are there too many sex noises on this?". And I was like, "Jon, there can never be too many sex noises!" 'I've had a lot of feedback like that. And I do understand it. I've always kept in my lane, done what people expected. Now I'm saying, 'f*** it!' It came after Louise discussed her divorce from Jamie on the Happy Place podcast and credited her two sons for keeping her going during the breakup. She said: 'If I didn't have my kids, I think I would've just given up. I think I just knew that my kids were my everything and they needed me.' The singer admitted that the public scrutiny of her marriage breakdown made the situation even harder to deal with. She added: 'But I can honestly say, when you're going through something so personal in your own turmoil in your own way, but then to get the barrage of judgment and nastiness. 'I never realised people could be so unkind and say such terrible things. I blew my mind.' 'I was going through a lot as it was, I was trying to be strong for my kids, whatever had gone on in our life was private - which I do believe that you're entitled to no matter what. 'And God, I was such a villain, and I was breaking like I was absolutely breaking. 'Beyond what I thought it was possible for a human to break and all along I'm still trying to be a mum. 'And it was just like every time I went out, and I was trying to put a brave face on and do things, like that was wrong if I didn't. 'I felt like everything I did was so wrong.' Following the split, Jamie found love with Swedish model Frida Andersson and they tied the knot in 2021 before having a son together.

Meghan shares video of family trip to Disneyland for Lili's fourth birthday
The Duchess of Sussex has shared another intimate video of the family celebrating Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland. The post on Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, drawing comparisons with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The montage also features a clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Disney princess Elsa, from the film Frozen. Meghan wears a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the video, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. The duchess captioned the video: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' The footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. At the time, the royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family shots over recent days to mark Lili's birthday. In one, she posted a throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself cuddling Lili. In another post, she described how Lili's relationship with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' Lili – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child – was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Nicky Hilton reveals breast-feeding woes as she announces new venture
has opened up about the challenges of breastfeeding as she announced a new collaboration with the Nara Baby app. Sharing a photo of herself nursing one of her children Friday, the 41-year-old heiress also touched on the societal pressure to nurse. In a post for The 2amClub she wrote: 'I breastfed all three of my children, but it wasn't without its challenges. While I enjoyed the moments of bonding, the latching was often painful. I didn't find breastfeeding as effortlessly as I'd hoped.' She added: 'The expectations put on mothers can be overwhelming. 'We're just doing our best, and feeding our children - whether through breast feeding or bottle feeding - shouldn't come with guilt or judgment. 'You have to listen to your body and do what's right for you.' It was apparently her own experiences that resulted in Hilton announcing she was an investor in Nara Baby. 'Their innovative baby formula, launching this spring, is something I'm truly proud to be a part of,' she wrote next to the post with a link to the new formula company. She encouraged her fellow moms to follow her example and 'Share your feeding confession at Hilton shares daughters Lily-Grace, almost nine, and Theodora, known as Teddy, six, and son Chasen, three with husband James Rothschild, 39. Several fans shared their own experiences. 'Cheers to any mother who can breastfeed. And cheers to all mothers who do what's best to keep their babies fed, no matter what their own emotional preferences are,' commented one follower. 'Don't let anybody tell you what to feed and how to feed your baby,' admonished another. 'Wow, that's so inspiring! Can't wait to see your support making a real difference,' said a fan. According to the Nara Organics website, the new formula is made from organic whole fat cows milk and meets both U.S. and the stricter standards of the European Union. It brags of its product containing 'the most whole milk fat* of any U.S. formula,' offering to make the data available upon request. The company also developed an app that helps expectant moms track 'your body, mood, and medications during your pregnancy journey,' along with 'prenatal and other healthcare appointments' and questions they may have for their healthcare providers. After the baby is born, the app is said to help new parents and their caregivers 'log activities throughout the day.' Those include feeding time, naps, diaper changes and more. The company is building buzz by asking future customers to sign up for a wait list for the product that was supposed to be available in spring 2025.
