FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — Florence Regional Airport has partnered with BETA Technologies, an electric aerospace company based in Vermont to install electric charging infrastructure at its airport.
The charger, which, according to a news release is designed to power the next generation of electric aircraft, marks the first installation of such infrastructure in South Carolina. The BETA-designed chargers are multimodal and interoperable, capable of powering various types of aircraft as well electric cars, vans, and trucks.
The airport has installed a Level 3 fast-charger on the airside of the airport, where it will primarily charge electric aircraft and support vehicles, the release said. A two-port Level 2 charger has been installed in the parking lot, which is open for public use.
Florence County Economic Development Partnership CEO Gregg Robinson expressed support for the new charging stations.
'My office stands ready to help industry partners take advantage of FLO's unique set of assets to establish new business ventures that will create innovative new jobs for our region alongside new transportation services for our residents and businesses,' he said.

Custom dark mode scheduling is reliable again in the latest Android 16 beta

Paul Jones / Android Authority TL;DR A bug in the Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 caused custom dark mode scheduling to stop working if you manually activated the mode via Quick Settings. The latest version of the beta has now fixed this issue. Although dark mode is great, there may be times of the day when you want to turn it off. Thankfully, Android gives you the option to set custom times of the day when you want the mode to turn on. When Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 rolled out, a bug made this feature stop working. Now it looks like the bug has been fixed with the latest update. Google rolled out Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 last month. As with any beta, there's an increased chance of running into bugs. One of the bugs that was discovered during this release was an issue with dark mode. Specifically, if you set a custom time for dark mode to kick on, going into Quick Settings to activate dark mode manually would cause custom scheduling to break. Yesterday, Google released Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1, which includes a long list of fixes. According to one report, it appears this update has solved the problem. You can now manually activate dark mode in Quick Settings without it disrupting the custom schedule you set. In addition to fixing this bug, the update has also fixed a few other known issues. For example, crashes no longer happen when trying to open effects in wallpaper. Also, the missing approve button in Device Admin settings is no longer missing. Surging gold may augur an endgame for US wealth-creation machine

Cheap commodities vs. beta may face ebbing tide The S&P 500 (SPX) has dropped in 1H to good support in terms of ounces of gold at 1.6x, but risks could be leaning lower. Our graphic shows a top reason why: Relative to the Bloomberg Commodity Spot Index, SPX appears in early stages of backing down from about a 25-year high. Broad commodities may have plenty of relative value potential vs. US stocks at current levels. Or is beta too stretched? Our bias is the latter, and gold's gain of about 26% in 2025 to May 29 vs. roughly flat SPX total returns could suggest the metal agrees. The world is facing unprecedented tariffs from the largest importer, which may be part of the reason crude oil is down about 15% this year. Stalwart CME copper's similar gain could be a nail to beta's hammer. Inordinate burden is how we view the S&P 500 to stay lofty to avoid deflationary dominoes. Copper, bitcoin may succumb to ebbing tide Rising gold vs. declining crude oil could gain momentum and attract companions, with copper as a primary candidate. Will the economically sensitive metal follow gold higher or fall with oil? This key commodities question for the rest of 2025 may augur an undue burden on the US stock market to keep going up to avoid trickle-down deflation from declining oil and iron ore, and Chinese government 30-year yields at about 1.9%. Absent a Corn Belt drought, grain prices are poised to continue falling. The US Treasury 30-year yield peaked at 5.15% on May 22 — a few basis points from the highest since 2007 — the same day Bitcoin reached a record $112,000, which may suggest the highly volatile and speculative crypto is a top leading indicator. Our inclination is that price risks are leaning lower with unlimited cryptocurrency supply. Beta may need to increase to avoid deflation A top prerequisite to stop rising precious metals and most other commodities from falling may be a resilient US stock market. Gold could be anticipating the potential that the roughly 100% gain in S&P 500 Total Return Index since 2019 is ripe for reversion. If 2025 ends with about a 10% gain in beta, gold could see pressure toward $3,000 an ounce, and copper inklings to $5 a pound. It's the potential for a 10% decline in beta that may trigger enduring deflation. The lessons of history and deflation following inflation are playing out in China akin to Japan about 30 years ago, and rising gold vs. falling crude reflects this. If copper follows oil, driven by a bit of reversion in the highest US stock market cap vs. GDP and the rest of the world in about a century, the deflation dominoes may tumble.

Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1 is here to save you from stuck navigation buttons

Paul Jones / Android Authority TL;DR Google has released the Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1 update. This update offers plenty of bug fixes, from unresponsive navigation buttons to fingerprint authentication issues. The new update is available on all of Google's Tensor-powered phones and the Pixel Tablet. Google launched Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 last month, but the early nature of these software releases means you should definitely expect plenty of bugs. Now, Google has released Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1, bringing plenty of fixes. The company confirmed the new beta software's release on Reddit, while also noting version number BP31.250502.008.A1. Google also posted a changelog, which highlights all the fixes. Android 16 QPR 1 beta 1.1 bug fixes The navigation buttons would become unresponsive in the app drawer or task switcher The progress bar in the media player on the lock screen doesn't reflect the place in media Fixed a crash when trying to open effects in wallpaper The settings app would crash after trying to open the battery menu The lock screen date could get cut off when using a wide clock style The search button has a different color when scrolling The approve button in Device Admin settings is missing Dark album labels appeared in the photo picker when in dark mode, impacting readability The date wasn't appearing on the homescreen Fixed a fingerprint authentication failure on a multi-user Android device in certain low-power conditions There are a few notable fixes here, but I'm particularly glad to see the update addresses an issue where the navigation keys would become unresponsive. After all, you can't exactly use your phone without these keys if you aren't using gesture navigation. The new beta software is available on the Pixel 6 series and newer, the Pixel 6a and newer, the Pixel Fold and newer, and the Pixel Tablet. In other words, if your Pixel device was eligible for the first Android 16 QPR 1 beta, this should be available to you. The news also comes as we continue to uncover more features and improvements in Android 16 QPR 1. More recently, we discovered Google is working on a feature to stop HDR content turning screens super bright, as well as a cool suggested wallpaper option. Got a tip? Talk to us!
