flyadeal and Cebu Pacific announce strategic partnership
Post Views: 41
flyadeal and Cebu Pacific signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint strategic commercial initiatives. The historic agreement covers a wide range of opportunities in commercial cooperation and support in aircraft maintenance and engineering.
The first phase of the MoU will see flyadeal take delivery of two Cebu Pacific Airbus A320 aircraft on a wet-lease arrangement for the upcoming summer peak flying season in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Reciprocally, Cebu Pacific is examining wet- leasing flyadeal A320s during the busy winter period in southeast Asia at the end of the year.
The agreement was signed at a joint Press Conference held in Manila today at which flyadeal Chief Executive Officer Steven Greenway and Cebu Pacific CEO Mike Szucs outlined plans for a phased cooperation beginning with the wet-lease arrangement.
Talks between the two airlines began earlier this year following a visit by Greenway and a flyadeal delegation to Manila to learn more about Cebu Pacific's A330-900neo operations. flyadeal, the Middle East's fastest growing airline, recently announced plans to venture into the long-haul market with an order for 10 A330 widebodies to be deployed between Saudi Arabia and the Philippines, and across southeast Asia from 2027.
Greenway said: 'Today's agreement is momentous as it marks flyadeal's first ever strategic airline partnership. It was clear and obvious that flyadeal could learn a lot from Cebu Pacific's experience of low-cost long-haul operations given we will be inducting the same A330-900neos into our fleet in just two years' time. There are great benefits in sharing technical knowledge, training and best practice in preparation for our A330 induction and, of course, we are both A320 operators.
'This was the starting point for wide-ranging commercial discussions covering a broad range of areas including more immediate needs of wet-leasing aircraft for flyadeal's busy upcoming summer season. A win, win situation all round to bring in Cebu Pacific aircraft during our peak period and vice versa for Mike and his team to explore taking our aircraft for their winter peak later this year.'
Szucs explained: 'With Cebu Pacific's growing fleet, we seek to maximse the potential of our increased capacity through all months of the year. The utilisation of our capacity by other carriers during our lean season is a way of achieving that.
'This partnership with flyadeal highlights Cebu Pacific's growing capability to support international carriers through wet leasing and broader operational collaboration It diversifies our revenue streams and further expands Cebu Pacific's presence beyond the Asia Pacific region.' Both CEOs said their respective teams will meet frequently to map out the joint commercial plans over the next few months.
Manila-based Cebu Pacific, Asia's first low-cost airline, has built a strong network within the Philippines, across the region and developed an ever-growing long-haul presence since its inaugural flight almost 30 years ago.
Just seven years old, Jeddah-based flyadeal is predominately a Saudi Arabian domestic scheduled airline operating 38 narrow body Airbus A320s, a fleet set to triple in size to over 100 aircraft within five years that includes its new widebody operations.

W Group unveils real-time programmatic DOOH platform
W Group Holding has launched a real-time, audience-targeting programmatic Digital Out-of-Home (pDOOH) platform. Touted as a global first, the AI-powered technology, AiOO, brings dynamic targeting to outdoor media by adapting ad delivery based on real-time audience traits and behaviour. AiOO is now being deployed across the UAE by Hypermedia, W Group's DOOH company that operates a large screen network. The technology is also being scaled globally through DXTA, the group's digital arm, giving agencies and advertisers access to new levels of precision across markets. Designed with a privacy-first approach, AiOO does not use facial recognition – instead using advanced audience analysis to detect real-time traits and movement behaviour and adjusts content based on relevance, while meeting international data protection standards. According to W Group, the platform is a step forward in how out-of-home campaigns are bought, measured and optimised, with the aim of helping brands connect with audiences more intelligently. The technology was officially unveiled during W Group's 25th anniversary event, held at the Theatre of Digital Art (TODA) in Dubai. The launch brought together industry leaders and representatives from government entities including Dubai Media Council, Mada Media, and the Department of Economy and Tourism. Habib Wehbi, Chairman and Group CEO of W Group Holding, said, 'Tonight, you witnessed a preview of our future: a real-time audience targeting breakthrough that redefines precision in Digital Out-of-Home. This innovation is more than a product – it's a strategic leap forward for W Group and the industry. Built to power intelligent, data-led media at scale, it marks the beginning of a new era in programmatic DOOH, starting here in Dubai and expanding globally. It reflects our belief in bold ideas, our confidence in local innovation, and our commitment to shaping what's next in media.' Following Wehbi's keynote, key industry and government leaders, from entities including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai Media Council and Mada Media, took the stage to share their perspectives on the unveiling of W Group technology. Mohammed Al Hammadi, CEO of Mada Media, said: 'We at Mada Media are delighted to be part of this groundbreaking moment as Dubai unveils the future of technology. Investments like these not only raise the industry standard but also inspire progress across the market.' Hesham AlOlama, Director of Strategy & Performance Management at Dubai Media Council, stated: '25 years in the making, W Group has been innovative, and it actually is a global leap for Dubai's creative economy. This is more than a project launch. It is a statement, a declaration that innovation is not just happening in Dubai, it is being led by Dubai.' The event also featured a panel featuring Ian Manning, Executive Director of IAB MENA, Tom Goddard, President of the World Out of Home Organization (WOO), Mickael Ferreira, VP and Global Chief Business Officer of Azerion, Hammad Benjelloun, CEO of AiOO, and Philip Matta, CEO of Hypermedia.

Flyadeal airline CEO blasts Airbus over 'inexcusable' delivery delays
NEW DELHI - The head of Saudi budget carrier flyadeal criticised Airbus' handling of delays of narrow-body jets and voiced concerns that disruption could spread to freshly ordered wide-body A330neos. CEO Steven Greenway spoke out about delays on the sidelines of an IATA airline industry summit in New Delhi, just weeks after unveiling an order for 10 A330neo long-haul planes. "Delays are becoming inexcusable. Transparency, to be frank, is lacking, and we're getting agitated. How else can we plan? I mean it is just going beyond a joke now," Greenway told Reuters. A non-excusable delay is a term used in aircraft contracts to trigger specific penalties to airlines, but these are rare. Jetmakers have consistently argued that any delays caused by supply chain problems are "excusable," industry sources say. Airbus faces some internal industrial problems, he said. Airbus declined to comment on the narrow-body delays. It has previously reported some improvement in supply chains and has said it is working to soften the impact on customers, while sticking to a target for 820 deliveries this year. Flyadeal is also among several carriers affected by a separate slowdown in arrivals of engines from CFM on the Airbus assembly line. "I have got two (narrow-body jets) sitting on the ground in Toulouse at the moment that have been there for a couple of months and I don't have any resolution in sight," Greenway said. "We were meant to have four aircraft in the first half of the year. We've only had two, and even those two were delayed." The sister airline to Saudia is now due to have one A321neo delivered in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter. "But I'm very three in the last quarter are going to get across the line," he said, adding: "Don't forget, this is delays on top of delays." Safran, which co-owns CFM with GE Aerospace, said in April that CFM had seen improvements in supply chains and was poised to recover a slow start to 2025. Greenway's comments reflect mounting private frustration about widespread supply problems among airline CEOs gathering for their annual industry meeting. He acknowledged that aerospace had been hit by a broad exodus of labour from the manufacturing sector after COVID-19, but added: "I do think it's inexcusable that here we are three, four years later, and we still haven't got over that hump." A330NEO UNCERTAINTY Reuters reported last week that Airbus had warned airlines a pattern of delays would persist for another three years. Lessors have spoken of supply tensions for the rest of the decade. Greenway raised concerns that similar problems could spread to the wide-body A330neo, after flyadeal unveiled an order for 10 of the upgraded long-haul jets in April. So far there have been no reports of delivery delays to the aircraft. "Our (first) aircraft was meant to be on the final production line in December of next year. I don't know if we're going to see that or not," he said. Airbus said it was not aware of any A330neo delays. Airlines say delays disrupt decisions that must be taken well ahead like pilot and crew training and adding routes. "You can't you take the wide-bodies, I'm now assuming there is going to be a delay. I'm having to go out and work with wet-lease operators to plug that gap," Greenway said, referring to rentals of planes with crews. Philippine budget airline Cebu Pacific said last week it would wet-lease two crewed A320s to flyadeal during its lean months in July and August, a busy period for the Saudi carrier.
