Prince of Wales celebrates 43rd birthday with new puppy picture
The Prince of Wales has marked his 43rd birthday in a picture with his dog Orla and three of her puppies.
The photograph, taken by the Princess of Wales, was shared by Kensington Palace on William's birthday on Saturday, with the caption: 'Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!'
One of the chocolate cocker spaniel puppies is being stroked by the Prince of Wales while their mother Orla is behind him.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have had Orla since 2020, after their first dog together Lupo, also a cocker spaniel – which they were given as a wedding present from Kate's brother James Middleton – died unexpectedly.
Orla gave birth to four puppies last month and the photograph was taken in Windsor on a sunny day earlier in June.
It appears to be a quieter birthday for the Prince of Wales than last year, when he took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Taylor Swift at Wembley stadium.
William had faced a challenging 12 months in the lead-up to turning 42, with both Kate and his father the King diagnosed with cancer.
In the week of his birthday this year, the Prince of Wales joined the King and Queen at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
His wife missed the event for the second successive year and was said to have been disappointed not to join her family at the famous sporting and social event in Berkshire.
On Thursday, the Prince of Wales was in Norwich with Earthshot Prize council member Cate Blanchett to see the hi-tech work of one of the 2023 prize finalists.
The pair donned lab coats to see how Colorifix, an eco-friendly textile dye company, makes its products.
William admitted he needed a 'layman's version' of the scientific explanations and later apologised to staff for 'all the stupid questions'.

She-Wolf Romulus and Remus statue stolen in manor break-in
Thieves have stolen a large statue of She-Wolf with Romulus and Remus from a manor house following a break-in. Four large bronze statues including a pair of fawns and a bust of Antinous, Emperor Hadrian's lover, were stolen from Iford Manor, Wiltshire, in the middle of its jazz festival. Police have launched an investigation into the theft, which took place overnight on Thursday. The She-Wolf statue has stood on the Great Terrace for more than 120 years after it was cast from the original for Harold Peto, the Edwardian architect and garden designer whose family acquired the manor in 1899. The statue also provided the backdrop for the 2020 adaptation of The Secret Garden with Hollywood actor Colin Firth. William Cartwright-Hignett, the managing partner of Iford Manor Estate, told The Telegraph: 'My overwhelming sense is frustration and sadness, I'm angry on behalf of heritage and the place. 'This isn't just a theft from me and my wife, it is a theft from the manor and its culture. 'The She-Wolf statue is the essence of the whole garden. That is the thing that really galls me the most.' Mr Cartwright-Hignett, who was in the middle of serving lunch to the 45 people who had come to support the Jazz Festival on Saturday, added: 'We feel we are the guardians of this place, as were my parents before me. I can't help but feel I've failed in my guardianship. 'When we took over in 2016, we wanted it to be a haven to escape the day-to-day riggers. When that place is violated, it makes it very difficult.' He also speculated that the theft could not have been a two-person job because the statues are made from bronze. 'They have stolen these statues with the utmost care,' he added. 'If someone wants to put them in a layby and let us know, we'll come and pick them up.' Raising awareness on Instagram, the Iford Manor account said: 'Tragically this morning we woke up to discover that certain statues within the garden including our iconic She-Wolf with Romulus and Remus have been stolen in the night in the early hours of Friday morning in the middle of our jazz festival. 'We would urge anyone with any information to please contact the police, crime stoppers, or ourselves to try to return these iconic pieces to their homes where they belong.' Police have urged the public to come forward if they witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between 10.45pm on Thursday and 8am on Friday. Antique dealers and auction houses have also been advised to be vigilant.

Charles makes changes to favourite royal home for George, Charlotte and Louis
King Charles has always been known to put his own stamp on his home - but in recent years, experts reveal in a new documentary, he has also made sure to create spaces that his grandchildren can enjoy when they come to stay A childhood inside the Royal Family is undoubtedly a pretty unique experience - and as a thoughtful grandfather, King Charles has gone out of his way to make it even more special. In a new documentary about one of Charles's all-time favourite royal residences - Birkhall - experts have revealed that he has gone the extra mile to ensure his grandchildren enjoy coming to visit. The documentary, called Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, explores just why this relatively modest lodge house located close to the imposing Balmoral Estate holds such a special place in Charles's heart. Whenever Charles is seen with his grandchildren, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, six, it's clear that he shares a special bond with the Wales children - who all supported him at his coronation in 2023, with George even taking on a prestigious role as page of honour. The monarch is also said to be close with his step-grandchildren, who are said to "adore him". Tom Parker Bowles, Camilla's son, has said they have nicknamed the King 'Uppa' and Camilla has revealed that they love when he tells them stories, because he really commits to doing the voices for each character. Birkhall is, according to the experts, the real "marital home" of Charles and Camilla - it's even where Charles popped the question and asked his long-time love to become his wife. So it's no surprise that the couple worked to make it family-friendly, so their whole brood of grandchildren on both sides have a great time playing when they visit. There are three ways in particular that Charles has ensured the children will have the same good memories of Birkhall as he does, the experts revealed in the documentary. Firstly, a Wendy House that the late Queen - then-Princess Elizabeth - and her sister Princess Margaret played in as little girls still stands in the ground of Birkhall, and Charles has ensured it is still in good enough condition for the little ones in this generation to enjoy - nearly a century later. Jennie Bond, former royal correspondent for the BBC, explains, "It's really cute, it's so beautiful, it's got this thatched roof, but it's thatched with heather, and the walls are covered in bark, it looks like there should be a fairy in there or a gnome living at the end of your garden. Expert Mark Lane explained, "Just to think that Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret used to play there, have a wonderful time there, and now all the rest of the grandchildren can continue to play in the garden I think is a wonderful thing." He also noted that Charles has "always said that" he wants to keep "family tradition going through" - and it definitely seems to be working. But Charles hasn't stopped there, Mark reveals, there is a seriously exciting other feature he has designed for the youngsters, "So there is a bouncing bridge, and he [Charles] says 'You've just got to bounce on this bridge because it's so much fun'". Finally, the expert revealed, "There are small strawberries that kids can pick at the side of pathways, and he just always hopes that when Prince George has grown up, he too will love the trees and love Birkhall. Charles first spent time at Birkhall when he was, himself, just a little boy - when it belonged to his "beloved" grandmother, the Queen Mother. She took over the property in the 1950s, and she and Charles were always very close - with one royal author even saying that he perhaps saw her more like a mother figure than the late Queen herself, due to his mother's busy schedule as monarch often meaning she was away from him for long periods of time when he was a young boy. The experts explained that during his unhappy school years at Gordonstoun in Northern Scotland, he travelled as often as he could to see his grandmother at Birkhall - and even now they claim it is one of the only places Charles feels real "freedom". After the Queen Mother died in 2002, the property passed to Charles, and he and Camilla carefully renovated it, making sure to put their own stamp on the place, whilst keeping a sense of his grandmother present too, with Charles left utterly "devastated" by her death. This includes keeping some of her prized decorations in place, but also another heartbreaking tribute - the Queen Mother's coats still hang by the door, as if she would be back at any moment.
