Second Premier League side takes interest in Barcelona defender – Catalan side open to sale

Barcelona will listen to offers for most of their squad this summer, save for the select few that are guaranteed starters. Director of Football Deco has reportedly set out the standard that only Lamine Yamal is essential to their plans, and one of the players that is attracting interest from abroad is left-back Gerard Martin. The 23-year-old was a surprise addition to Barcelona's senior squad last summer after a strong preseason with the side. Martin largely played a back-up role to Alejandro Balde, and despite struggling defensively, did provide two excellent assists for Barcelona against Inter the Champions League semi-final. Lately it has been revealed that Wolves are interested in Martin, and could be willing to bid €12m for him. Barcelona stance on Martin sale Barcelona's stance on the matter is that they will sell Martin if an economically acceptable offer comes in for Martin, say Sport. They recently renewed his contract until 2028, but now Bournemouth have emerged as a second side interested in Martin. They look set to lose current left-back Milos Kerkez, just as Wolves have lost Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City. Image via Gerard Martin In addition, Sempre Barca note that West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Bayer Leverkusen and Benfica are all keeping tabs on him. The Blaugrana would be willing to sell for €12m. Do Barcelona have an alternative plan to Gerard Martin? If Martin were to leave, Barcelona would likely have to look into a replacement. Alejandro Balde is set to be the starter again next season, but youngster Hector Fort or Inigo Martinez would be next up for the Blaugrana. There has been a suggestion that youngster Jofre Torrents, 18, could be moved into the first team sooner rather than later. Alternatively, it has not gone unnoticed that Barcelona have again been linked to Alejandro Grimaldo of Leverkusen of late.

Can Bueno step up to replace Ait-Nouri?

With left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri joining Manchester City for £31m, attention at Wolves turns to replacements. Forward Matheus Cunha also swapped Molineux for Manchester, moving to United for £62.5m , so Wolves have done good business early and that should allow boss Vitor Pereira to shape his squad. Advertisement They are in the market for a left-back and Hugo Bueno will return from his loan at Feyenoord to compete for the spot. The 22-year-old played 29 times, including in the Champions League, as Feyenoord finished third in the Eredivisie. Pereira is a fan, so I expect Bueno - who has been at the club for five years - to be back at Molineux next season. In the meantime, Wolves will also look for another left-back to provide competition. A right-back - with captain Nelson Semedo out of contract and yet to sign the new deal offered - and at least one number 10 are also on Pereira's wishlist.

Swindon add Premier League defender to transfer wishlist

Swindon Town have set their sights on signing an up-and-coming Premier League defender ahead of the 2025/26 season. The club have reportedly identified 20-year-old Wolves centre-back Filozofe Mabete to fix their issues at the back, according to The Moonraker. Advertisement The interest in Mabete comes after several notable departures from the club, including Miguel Freckleton and Grant Hall, who have left manager Ian Holloway with several holes to fill in his defensive line. Mabete has spent nine years at top-flight side Wolves – progressing through the club's academy ranks – and has previously been called up to an England under-17 training camp. Recommended reading He captained Wolves' under-18s and made 52 appearances for the junior outfit before moving up to the club's under-21s side, where he played 38 times. The London-born defender featured regularly in the youth development league Premier League 2 in the 2024/25 season, scoring one goal in 14 appearances. Advertisement Despite signing his first professional contract at Molineux in June 2023, Wolves confirmed on Friday that Mabete would be among eight development players to be leaving the side upon the expiry of his contract. This would make him available for Swindon to snap up on a free transfer, provided he and the club are able to come to an agreement to bring the right-footed defender to the Nigel Eady County Ground. Mabete could also bring some versatility to Holloway's squad, having originally been a central midfielder before moving back into defence as he advanced through Wolves' pathway.
