Five ways Russia could wipe out UK within hours of WW3
Vladimir Putin's forces could use drones, missiles and cyber attacks to wipe the UK out if conflict broke out
Vladimir Putin could potentially unleash a barrage of kamikaze drones, missiles, and cyber attacks on the UK in the event of a conflict with Russia.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer this week presented his Strategic Defence Review (SDR), which outlined the challenges facing UK defence and national security and proposed strategies for response.
The comprehensive 144-page Ministry of Defence document has been ridiculed on Russian state television, with one Putin mouthpiece ominously threatening the population with 'painful' radiation deaths.
The SDR identifies potential vulnerabilities in the UK's defences that Putin and his military leaders could exploit, highlighting five brutal 'methods of attack' if a major conflict were to break out.
It suggests the nation's current defence systems are ill-prepared to handle potential drone strikes, akin to those carried out across Russia this week, or long-range cruise, ballistic or hypersonic missiles, reports the Express.
UK military bases, both domestic and overseas, could be targeted by the Kremlin, as well as oil rigs, subsea cables, satellites and merchant ships.
Cyber attacks aimed at critical infrastructure, stock exchanges, communication networks or the UK government could also cause significant disruption and paralyse Britain's response, given that more than 95% of global data is transmitted via undersea cables.
The review concluded: "Based on current ways of war, if the UK were to fight a state-on-state war as part of NATO in 2025, it could expect to be subject to some or all of the following methods of attack:
• Assaults on the UK's Armed Forces and bases abroad
• Air and missile strikes (involving long-range drones, cruise, and ballistic missiles) aimed at military and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) within the UK
• Escalating sabotage and cyber-attacks targeting both onshore and offshore CNI
• Actions to disrupt the UK economy, particularly industries supporting the Armed Forces, through means such as cyber-attacks, maritime trade interdiction, and assaults on space-based CNI
• Campaigns to manipulate information with the intent of eroding social unity and political resolve
Keir Starmer has committed to the most significant increase in defence spending since the Cold War era, emphasising the need for the nation to be "a battle-ready, armour-clad nation".
"Presently, the UK is grappling with low recruitment numbers for its military forces and a shortage of missile reserves, making it a formidable challenge to reinforce these areas, especially in light of incidents like the costly drone strike Russia experienced, which is projected to incur expenses of around £5.2billion.
The government has announced its full support for the SDR, endorsing the vision and committing to all 62 recommendations set forth in the report, which includes a substantial £15bn investment in the sovereign warhead programme during this Parliament, a move expected to sustain over 9,000 jobs.
Defence Secretary John Healey has disclosed that £1bn is allocated for enhancing air and missile defences and establishing a cyber and electromagnetic warfare unit. In addition, there are plans to construct six new munitions factories in the UK, representing an investment of £1.5bn, as part of broader measures to strengthen the country's defensive capabilities.
The review states: "We will create a 'New Hybrid Navy', building the Dreadnought and SSN-AUKUS submarines, cutting-edge warships and support ships, transforming our carriers, and introducing new autonomous vessels to patrol the North Atlantic and beyond."
It also outlines an ambitious plan for the British Army, aiming to increase its deterrent capabilities significantly: "We will create a British Army which is 10x more lethal to deter from the land, by combining more people and armoured capability with air defence, communications, AI, software, long-range weapons, and land drone swarms.
"We will create a next-generation RAF, with F-35s, upgraded Typhoons, next-generation fast jets through the Global Combat Air Programme, and autonomous fighters to defend Britain's skies and strike anywhere in the world."

Starmer announces full inquiry into grooming gangs after resisting calls for probe
Keir Starmer will launch a statutory inquiry into the grooming gangs scandal after resisting pressure for months to implement a full national probe. The British Prime Minister said he had read 'every single word' of an independent report into child sexual exploitation by Baroness Louise Casey and would accept her recommendation for the investigation. Advertisement Earlier this year the Government dismissed calls for a public inquiry, saying its focus was on putting in place the outstanding recommendations already made in a seven-year national inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay. Prof Jay's 2022 report concluded there had been institutional failings across the country and tens of thousands of victims in England and Wales. But speaking to reporters travelling with him on his visit to Canada, the Prime Minister said: 'From the start I have always said that we should implement the recommendations we have got because we have got many other recommendations… I think there are 200 when you take all of the reviews that have gone on at every level and we have got to get on with implementing them. 'I have never said we should not look again at any issue. I have wanted to be assured that on the question of any inquiry. That's why I asked Louise Casey who I hugely respect to do an audit. Advertisement 'Her position when she started the audit was that there was not a real need for a national inquiry over and above what was going on. 'She has looked at the material she has looked at and she has come to the view that there should be a national inquiry on the basis of what she has seen. 'I have read every single word of her report and I am going to accept her recommendation. That is the right thing to do on the basis of what she has put in her audit. 'I asked her to do that job to double check on this; she has done that job for me and having read her report, I respect her in any event. I shall now implement her recommendations.' Advertisement Asked when it would be launched, he said the probe would be implemented under the Inquiries Act, which will take 'a bit of time to sort out' and would be done in 'an orderly way'. This means the inquiry will be able to compel witnesses to give evidence. It is understood the inquiry will be national in scope, co-ordinating a series of targeted local investigations. A national row over grooming gangs was ignited in January after tech billionaire Elon Musk used his X social media platform to launch a barrage of attacks on Starmer and safeguarding minister Jess Phillips. Advertisement It followed the Government's decision to decline a request from Oldham Council for a Whitehall-led inquiry into child sexual abuse in the town. The Government later commissioned a 'rapid' audit by Lady Casey into the nature and scale of group-based child sexual abuse, which had been due to take three months but was delayed. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who has repeatedly attacked him over his resistance to launching another national probe, said the Prime Minister had to be 'led by the nose to make the correct decision'. 'Keir Starmer doesn't know what he thinks unless an official report has told him so,' she said. Advertisement 'Just like he dismissed concerns about the winter fuel payment and then had to U-turn, just like he needed the Supreme Court to tell him what a woman is, he had to be led by the nose to make the correct decision here. 'I've been repeatedly calling for a full National Inquiry since January. It's about time he recognised he made a mistake and apologised for six wasted months. 'But this must not be the end of the matter. There are many, many more questions that need answering to ensure this inquiry is done properly and quickly. 'Many survivors of the grooming gangs will be relieved that this is finally happening, but they need a resolution soon, not in several years' time. Justice delayed is justice denied.' Reform UK leader and Clacton MP Nigel Farage said the move was a 'welcome U-turn' and would 'expose the multiple failings of the British establishment'.

RAF fighter jets to be scrambled to Middle East after Iran missiles
The UK already has jets in the region as part of its Operation Shader contribution but more military assets, described by Keir Starmer as 'contingency support', are being deployed. Fighter jets and extra British military assets will be deployed to the Middle East as fears grow over an all-out war in the region, reveals Keir Starmer. The assets have been described by the Prime Minister as "contingency support" and it is understood aircraft began deployment preparations on Friday. The UK already has jets in the region as part of its Operation Shader contribution. The PM also urged the Iranian regime and Benjamin Netanyahu's Israeli government to de-escalate and pull back from the brink as he flew to the G7 in Canada, reports the Mirror. It came as Iranian missiles rained down on Tel Aviv in response to the Israeli government's assault on military and nuclear targets in Tehran. The country also warned the UK, US and France against stopping its strikes on Israel - or face their own bases and ships in the region being targeted. Speaking to reporters, the Prime Minister said: "I will always make the right decisions for the UK and our allies. "We are moving assets to the region, including jets, and that is for contingency support in the region. I will be clear-eyed in relation to our duties and obligations and my duties as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom." Pressed on whether the assets in the region would be involved in defending Israel, the PM told reporters he would not "get into operational issues". "We're having ongoing discussions with our allies all of the time, both myself and David Lammy, as you've seen, who also spoke to the Iranians, as I think is a matter of record now," he said. "Our constant message is to de-escalate, and therefore everything we're doing, all discussions we're having are to do with de-escalation. "In relation to Israel, I had a good and constructive discussion with the Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday, and that included discussions about the safety and security of Israel, as you would expect, between two allies." The PM added: "We do have long-standing concerns about the nuclear programme Iran has. "We do recognize Israel's right to self defence, but I'm absolutely clear that this needs to de-escalate. There is a huge risk of escalation for the region. More widely in terms of conflict, you can see the impact already on the economy and oil prices. "And of course, all of this is linked to what's going on in Gaza. So you can see why my strong position is this needs to de-escalate, and that is the primary focus of the discussions that I've been having and will continue to be." Mr Starmer also refused to say whether the UK had been given advanced notice of Israel's strike." Mr Starmer also refused to say whether the UK had been given advanced notice of Israel's strike. He said: "I'm not going to go into what information we had at the time or since. But we discuss these things intensely with our allies. But I'm not going to get into precisely what we knew, because it's a constant flow of information between our allies, and between us and the US. I'm not going to start answering what goes around on intelligence channels." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
