Mauricio Ruffy wants Beneil Dariush after KO of Year candidate at UFC 313
LAS VEGAS – After arguably one of the most vicious knockouts in UFC history, Mauricio Ruffy knows exactly what he wants next.
Ruffy (12-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) landed a spinning heel kick on King Green (32-17-1 MMA, 13-12-1 UFC) a little more than two minutes into their main card opener Saturday at UFC 313. Green, who has turned out many lights himself, was out cold, face first on the canvas.
Ruffy, a member of Brazil's fast-rising Fighting Nerds team, won a $50,000 performance bonus for the finish, which is sure to be a Knockout of the Year contender come December.
'I'm very happy with the win and very happy with the opportunity,' Ruffy said at his post-fight news conference at T-Mobile Arena. 'I think I did justice to the vote of confidence the UFC has given me. Wherever (that kick) came from, there's a lot more to come. … We work very hard at the gym for things to happen. Actually, back in the locker room, we were working on that kick, as well.'
Ruffy, a lightweight who will turn 29 in June, has 11 of his 12 wins by knockout. The lone time he's had to go to a decision to get his hand raised came in his second UFC fight this past November. Against James Llontop at UFC 309 in New York, he put in 15 minutes.
But clearly, it's the bonus-winning finishes he prefers, like his win over Green and his knockout of Jamie Mullarkey in his UFC debut.
'Listen, there are a lot of secrets about Ruffy style that you don't know yet,' he said. 'You have no idea, and I can't wait to put them against a grappler, a wrestler. There are many more things that Ruffy can offer that you have not seen, but you're going to see it in the UFC.'
When it comes to whom he'd next like to showcase his skills against, that grappler and wrestler he has in mind is none other than Beneil Dariush, a 35-year-old lightweight standout who has been in the promotion for nearly a dozen years.
After an eight-fight winning streak had him in title contention, Dariush was knocked out by former champ Charles Oliveira in June 2023. He lost a second straight for the first time in his career when ARman Tsarukyan knocked him out in December 2023 in a main event in Austin, Texas.
Dariush was set to return in January against Renato Moicano at UFC 311, but when Tsarukyan suffered a fight week injury, Moicano was tapped to fight Islam Makhachev for the title. Dariush was left with his cheese in the wind and without a fight.
Two months later, he hasn't been officially rebooked, and Ruffy is down.
'My goal in the UFC is to be a champion and to get the title shot as soon as possible. Myself, along with the team, decided that is a name that puts us closer to a title shot. So that's what we want.'

UFC Cuts Ties With Royce Gracie's Nephew, Kron Gracie
Let's face it. It's tough being the grand son of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pioneer and the nephew of a UFC legend. Those are tough shoes to fill if you're attempting to establish a career in combat sports. Kron Gracie has found that out firsthand. On Thursday, per Full Contact MTWF on X, Gracie was one of three fighters removed from the UFC's active roster. Quite honestly, the move from Dana White and Co. should come as no surprise. The 36-year-old whose grandfather is Hélio Gracie and whose uncle is Royce Gracie trains with Nate and Nick Diaz had an esteemed run as a BJJ practitioner, but his MMA career–at least in the UFC–has been less than stellar. Gracie's release comes on the heels of his third straight loss in the Octagon. The last defeat was a brutal TKO stoppage at the hands of Bryce Mitchell in December 2024 at UFC 310. Gracie hadn't just lost three fights in a row in the UFC, he's also been inactive. He fought once in December 2024. Before that, he fought in May 2023, and prior to that fight he was last in the Octagon in October 2019 when he lost a Fight-of-the-Night performance against Cub Swanson. Gracie's lone win in the UFC's Octagon in four fights came in his promotional debut. In February 2019, Gracie scored a first-round submission victory over Alex Caceres. At the time, it appeared the UFC could potentially have a contender on their hands in the featherweight division. Unfortunately, he fought just three times over the next five years and never won another fight with the promotion. While he hasn't announced his retirement from MMA, Gracie is on the wrong side of 35, and he has a modest 5-3 record in the sport. There's no doubt he can likely compete in BJJ tournaments and even train fighters in the martial art his family made a mainstream system in combat sports. But his chances of becoming a legitimate contender for a title on a higher level of MMA are done. The other two fighters the UFC separated from on Thursday were Hakeem Dawodu and Connor Matthews. UFC 316 takes place on Sunday with Merab Dvalishvili defending his title against Sean O'Malley in a rematch of their first battle in September 2024. Here is a look at the complete card. The last defeat was a brutal TKO stoppage at the hands of Bryce Mitchell in December 2024 at UFC 310.

Patchy Mix finally can prove his doubters wrong with debut at UFC 316
UFC newcomer Patchy Mix is ready to stamp his name into a crowded bantamweight division. 'It feels great to be here, finally,' Mix said at the UFC 316 press conference ahead of his bout against Mario Bautista. 'I'll prove it this Saturday, and I do believe that I am the best bantamweight in the world.' 'I'm looking through him,' Mix added of Bautista as the crowd went wild. Mix, 20-1, was previously the champion in rival promotion Bellator before it folded, and the UFC jumped at the opportunity to sign him.

Tom Aspinall Reveals Major Update Ahead of UFC Return
Tom Aspinall Reveals Major Update Ahead of UFC Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The UFC's heavyweight division has been frozen in time. With the title picture murky and Jon Jones sidelined, the promotion's biggest weight class has remained in limbo for months. Media speculation has run wild, and fans have grown restless waiting for clarity. Some are starting to think the division's been trapped in a five-round staring contest with no bell in sight. After weeks of silence from UFC brass, the interim champion has stepped in to deliver what many hope is the spark that sets the division back in motion. His presence alone has refocused attention, but it was his latest appearance that gave the clearest sign yet of a shift underway. Advertisement Appearing on ESPN MMA with Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, Tom Aspinall brought the energy that's been sorely missing in recent months. With confidence and conviction, he made his position crystal clear: 'The active heavyweight champion is here to fight them all. Let's get it on.' Cormier pressed him further, asking whether he truly had something locked in. Aspinall didn't flinch: 'Well, I'll tell you something: I've got a date and a location.' His tone suggested it's not speculation—it's a done deal. And when the topic of Jon Jones surfaced, Aspinall dismissed the idea that the undisputed champ remains relevant to his future. 'Guys, why are we still talking about Jon? He's retired. He's done.' That comment alone was enough to stir debate across the MMA landscape. Aspinall's confidence is backed by action, and his readiness to move forward stands in contrast to the UFC's long-standing silence. With the interim champ seemingly booked and ready, the pressure is now on the promotion to reveal its next move. Tom AspinallGetty Images Despite the buzz, UFC President Dana White and the promotion continue to keep things close to the chest. But with Aspinall sounding off and the calendar moving, signs point toward official news breaking soon. The heavyweight logjam may finally be cracking—and when it does, it could reshape the UFC's biggest division overnight. If Aspinall's timeline holds true, fans won't be waiting much longer for a major announcement.
