Cynon Taf Community Housing Group Bolsters Executive Team with Three Key Appointments
Cynon Taf Community Housing Group (CTCHG), a housing association based in Rhondda Cynon Taf which looks after more than 2,000 homes, has appointed three new Directors.
The appointments come as the Group moves forward with delivering its new strategic plan for 2025 – 2029 with a mission to provide quality homes for current and future generations and be an inspiring, trusted community partner and employer.
Angharad Rogers, currently Head of Housing at CTCHG, will move into the role of Director of Housing and Communities, with responsibility for subsidiary Down to Zero in her portfolio. Angharad has worked at CTCHG for almost 20 years and will use her insights and knowledge of the Group's tenants and communities to maximise its impact locally.
Emma Brute will take up the new role of Director of Organisational Development and Business Improvement.
A housing professional by background, Emma is currently Head of Information and Business Transformation at United Welsh. She brings expertise in leading customer-focussed transformation resulting in increased customer satisfaction, streamlined operations and enhanced compliance.
Emma also brings governance experience as a Board member of Cyfannol Women's Aid and, previously, of Monmouthshire Housing Association.
Owain Roberts, recently Director of Property and Place at Newport City Homes, will take up the new role of Director of Assets, Decarbonisation and Growth. He will be responsible for the Assets and Development teams and will take on the technical oversight of the Group's decarbonisation work and Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
Owain brings significant industry experience in property maintenance, development, repairs, building safety, asset management and decarbonisation and in driving service improvements. He also has previous governance experience as a member of the Board of Blaenau Gwent Care & Repair.
All three Directors will join Group Director of Finance, Alison Williams to form the Group's Executive Team, reporting directly to Auriol Miller, Group CEO.

Yet, finance expert at Moneyfacts, Rachel Springall, assures that "it is possible to both save and have a sociable summer." Springall explains: "It is down to consumers to budget and be conscious of any essential bills whilst also juggling their aspiring saving goals." Don't neglect your saving pot MoneyPlus discovered that 60% of people surveyed felt pressured to spend a lot on big events and milestones – which may be amplified during summer. Springall warns: "The cost of the summer can escalate quickly if someone does not make efforts to budget. It's unwise to neglect building a saving pot at this time and it is true that consumers could be a bit apathetic this time of year to save. However, putting a little bit of cash aside each month could really make a difference in the months ahead." With the warmer months approaching, Springall and Santander financial advisor Mark Weston are offering practical tips on managing savings while still making the most of the summer holidays. Automate your saving habits Springall advises: "During this time, the arrival of app-based savings providers can be useful for those who want to automate their savings habits. There are apps available, such as Plum, which can connect to a customer's bank account and work out their weekly savings amount. We'd love to hear from you! Know your finances According to Weston, staying on top of your spending and planning ahead increases your chances of having more financial freedom and flexibility. "Having a clear idea of your expenses and budget is a great start," Weston says. "Using budgeting tools is a good way of getting a handle of what you're actually spending and what you can afford to spend." He advises: "Making sure you understand where your spending has come from and also having a budget plan for the whole year, with summer in particular, can help for planning ahead." Springall adds: "Using a budget app like Emma, could be useful on the go. It monitors spending and can help build a pot towards different goals, like holidays, an MOT or even Christmas." Use a regular savings accounts Springall suggests that these types of savings accounts are perfect for gradually accumulating funds as they encourage positive saving habits. "However, consumers will need to work out if they are the right choice for them as some can be restrictive and might not be suitable for larger deposits," she advises. "Regular savings accounts can also revert to a flexible account after the term ends, which might not pay a good rate, so savers must make a diary note to reinvest if they are still building funds toward their future goal." Be prepared for unexpected expenses Weston particularly urges parents to have savings set aside for unforeseen costs. "If you know that your normal monthly disposable income is a bit tighter due to children being home more rather than being in school, it is good to have savings put away so it is still possible to socialise and do things with them in the summer." Combat financial inertia Springall encourages consumers to overcome any indifference and reassess how to make their money work harder. "Consumers need to shake any apathy they may have and take a step back to decide how their money could work harder for them during this time period also. "Consumers ready to get started would be wise to explore the latest top rate tables and read up on some tips and guides to help them on their savings journeys."

As the proud owner of a Simba mattress, I think that they are worth every penny. Almost impossible to choose the perfect mattress online, I was delighted when the sleep experts at Simba sent me a Simba Hybrid® Ultra Mattress to try for myself. My range-topping Simba Hybrid Ultra Mattress has been a revelation, proving to me (and my husband) just how important is it to have the right mattress to suit your needs. With £600 off in the sale, the price is down to £2399 for the kingsize mattress, but this Simba is still an investment - with no more dips in the middle, unsprung springs or sweaty synthetic toppers, a sound night's sleep feels like it is worth every penny. Measuring a more than generous 34cm in depth, it was no flimsy bed topper that had been hand delivered to my bedroom, but more a weapons-grade comfort cloud that the delivery men struggled to get up the stairs. When popped on top of my divan base, I was immediately reminded of the Princess and the Pea, but one quick lie down and any fear of feeling too high off the floor quickly dissipated. Having used this mostly through the cooler months of the year I've not once felt myself overheating. Of course, that could still change as the mercury rises, but so far this mattress has shown much more impressive cooling capabilities than some of the other supposedly "cooling" bed sheets, duvets and pillows I have tried before. It also came with a pure white mattress protector that is deep enough to cover the super soft mattress, and the top layer of the mattress can be removed for washing. The Simba Hybrid Ultra range starts from £1599.20 with 20% off in the sale. While this particular mattress is the brand's most expensive offering, it also features their signature tech, making it much more than just a comfy mattress. Compared to the bestselling Simba Hybrid® Pro (now from £647) and Simba Hybrid® Luxe (now from £995) mattresses, the Ultra offers an increased number of those all-important Simba Aerocoil® micro springs for optimum supportive comfort. ‘I tried Simba's pillow - it made a big difference to morning neckache'
The Simba pillow isn't cheap, so we put it to the test to see if it's worth the high price tag My pillows have seen much better days. Over the past few weeks, I've often been waking up with a neckache, likely in large part due to the pillows losing their shape and firmness over time and making sleep pretty uncomfortable. We spend a huge amount of our lives sleeping, so I was long overdue for an upgrade in the hope of avoiding waking up with that stiff neck feeling. Enter Simba's Hybrid Firm Pillow, priced at £135.15 - a £24 saving on the usual £159 price. Getting a pillow online always feels like a bit of a gamble. I'd ideally prefer to give it a squeeze on a shop shelf to find the right type of softness for me. But what I did like about the Simba pillow is the adjustable aspect, allowing you to alter the firmness to your own personal preference. Upon arrival, I was pleased to discover the pillow comes in its own carry case, which will prove handy if I decide I can't sleep on anything else when staying overnight. I was eager to get it open and test it out, only to find that when I first laid my head on it, it felt very firm, much firmer than I would like. But that mild disappointment quickly vanished as I set about adjusting the interior sections to fit my personal preference. Depending on how you like it, the interchangeable layers can be altered to give you a medium, medium firm, or firm feel. The Hybrid Firm pillow has three inner pillows, two are made with down-like Simba Renew, plus a more supportive one made with Aerocoil micro springs encased in a cushioned sleeve. You simply layer them up to suit your sleeping style and your preferred level of firmness. Liking a pillow that gives adequate support but also has a bit of a softer feel, I opted for the medium setup and found this much more to my taste, sinking back into a fluffy paradise of comfort. Eager to properly test it out, I decided to try and take a quick afternoon nap, only to drift off for a couple of hours, such was the comfort. I've since slept with the pillow for a week and found it to offer brilliant support, and banish that stiff neck feeling when I wake in the morning. And fear not, for those doing the maths for two pillows and gulping, Simba says only one pillow is needed, something I'd agree with, such is the height and support offered. What else is out there? If the Simba firm pillow is a bit pricey for your liking then then it does also stock a cheaper version, the Hybrid pillow. That's usually priced at £109, though it's currently down to £92.65 in a sale. Those familiar with sleep brands will likely have heard of Emma, too. I have one of their mattresses - the Original mattress - which I've found to be extremely comfortable. Emma also sells a range of pillows, including the Premium Cloud Pillow, which is priced at £104.99. That boasts technology to keep sleepers 'cool and comfortable', while the inner layers are made of Aerosoft microfibre but they're thinner and removable so that you can adjust the height and firmness of the pillow to your exact liking. Shoppers on the hunt for something much more budget friendly might find joy in the likes of the Silentnight Hotel Collection Pillows 4 Pack, priced at £34.99 on Amazon. Those pillows are said to be hypoallergenic, meaning they're kind to skin and don't include any contents likely to cause allergies. Keeping cool at night Another thing I tend to struggle with is being too hot when I sleep. I have a fan running most of the time, so having a pillow that is said to help with that, too, has been most welcome. Simba says its Stratos cool-touch tech is similar to the innovation that keeps astronauts cool in space, calling it 'a sort of pillow thermostat'. It's designed to offer an instant, tangible coolness, even through a pillow case, and help dissipate excess heat. It hasn't been excessively warm in the time I've tested out the pillow so far, but I have noticed the cooling effect Simba speaks of, which will be very welcome as the weather continues to warm up. It also features a zip-off washable cover so it's easy to keep it nice and fresh for a good night's sleep. What's not so great? There's a glaring elephant in the room with this pillow - the price. When you mention pillows I immediately think of those ones you see on the end of supermarket aisles reduced from a tenner to £7. So the idea of a pillow costing £135 does instantly make me raise my eyebrows. It is an excellent product that's clearly well made, but that's a seriously expensive price point. For someone with the budget to spend at that sort of price range then I'd say it's worth it, but if that's above the amount you'd typically spend then there are plenty of other options out there that are significantly cheaper. What the reviews say One delighted buyer said: 'Why would you spend over £100 on a pillow? Well, that's something I would have said until I tried the Hybrid Firm pillow. I was suffering from an ache in my neck and shoulder, which I couldn't shift, so I took the plunge and just bought the one to give it a go. Arrived quickly and well packaged, and I set it up for the firmest. After one night sleeping with it, I felt way better and so I ordered a second. They are so full that they are a little snug inside a standard pillow case but will fit. No going back, and even my daughter tried and loves them.' Another added: 'Loving my new Simba adaptable pillow. You just have to make sure you have the right side facing up!' Despite the positive feedback, one buyer did point out: 'Bought this pillow as an upgrade for the hybrid pillow I recently purchased but I much prefer the hybrid to this one, not worth the money.'
