Problem Solved Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is less than a day away, though it appears that the event will see a restrained rollout compared to the AI extravaganza held a year ago. The week-long event will kick off with a keynote address on Monday, June 9, and run through Friday, June 13. There will be more than 100 technical sessions for developers, as well as group and one-on-one lab sessions, Apple announced in a news release. USA TODAY will provide live coverage of Monday's keynote, along with the latest updates on the company reveals. Here's what you need to know before Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2025. How to watch WWDC 2025 The keynote for WWDC 2025 takes place at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, on June 9 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT and be followed by a "Platforms State of the Union." The keynote is set to be streamed on Apple TV, the Apple YouTube page and at USA TODAY will also provide live coverage. What might be revealed at WWDC 2025? Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is preparing a modest rollout of artificial intelligence features, targeting WWDC 2026 to make a larger splash. Gurman wrote in the Power On newsletter that the most significant AI announcement this year will be the opening of Apple's Foundation Models to third-party developers. He noted that the move is being made in hope of spurring the creation of new AI features and apps to help Apple catch up in the artificial intelligence market. Gurman also reported that Apple appears set to add a centralized gaming app in the next iOS update. He indicates the app will be preinstalled with the update and will be a place for users to launch games, find new titles, view leaderboards and communicate with other players. "The new app will serve as a Game Center replacement, and is more ambitious," Gurman wrote. "But it's unlikely to shake up the industry." iOS naming system to change with update: Reports Apple appears set to change the naming system for iOS on Monday, according to Gurman. The company will move from numbering operating system updates sequentially to numbering them by year in a manner similar to the way car models are identified. Under the new system, the Monday update will be iOS 26 instead of iOS 19. Gurman also reported that the Mac operating system will be named Tahoe after the Californian forest.

3 Reasons to Buy Floor & Decor Stock Like There's No Tomorrow

Floor & Decor's business model earned praise from an all-time great investor, and it has large expansion plans. The stock's valuation is more attractive than usual and it's unlikely to get much cheaper tomorrow. 10 stocks we like better than Floor & Decor › In 2017, home improvement retail chain Floor & Decor Holdings (NYSE: FND) went public. It only had about 70 locations and was still virtually unknown. And investors could have bought it at any time during the past eight years. But now it's time to buy Floor & Decor stock like there's no tomorrow. Of course, that's just an expression -- there will be a tomorrow for Floor & Decor, and I believe it will be great for shareholders. That's why I believe it's worth the investment today. But when it comes to buying the stock at an attractive price, I don't think that investors should necessarily wait until tomorrow, hoping for any entry point that's better than this. The valuation is my third reason to buy Floor & Decor stock today. But first allow me to explain two other reasons why it's a good buy right now. Before he passed away in 2023, Charlie Munger was renowned for being a great investor and one who was focused on business fundamentals. Therefore, when he praises a business model, it's a big deal. And in one of his final interviews, Munger praised Floor & Decor. There are two extremes in retail. One approach is to have a lot of little stores -- GameStop fits in this category. It ended 2024 with over 3,200 locations, which is massive. But each location only had just over $1 million in annual sales. The other approach is to have relatively few stores that handle massive volume, which is Floor & Decor's business model and what Munger loved about it. It follows the same logic as one of his favorite businesses, Costco Wholesale. Floor & Decor only has around 250 locations today and it only expects to have around 500 long term. But each is between 50,000 square feet and 80,000 square feet. And with $4.5 billion in overall trailing-12-month revenue, these 250 stores are certainly high volume. High-volume stores can serve Floor & Decor by creating operating leverage, leading to strong profitability. It's something to watch as the business grows. As mentioned, Floor & Decor is looking to grow to at least 500 locations in coming years. Here in 2025, it's looking to open 20 new stores, which is about 8% growth. But keep in mind that this growth is slow by this company's standards. Given the economic uncertainty right now, management pulled back on this year's plans. Ordinarily, shareholders can expect Floor & Decor to open new locations at a faster rate as it expands toward its long-term goal. But opening new stores isn't the only growth strategy. The company owns another business called Spartan Surfaces, which does flooring installations for commercial properties, such as hospitals. This is a great ancillary business idea for Floor & Decor. Circling back to the business model, there's a ceiling to the opportunity with its retail locations -- it doesn't want a lot of low-volume stores. But it can still leverage its infrastructure with this ancillary commercial business. Between sales growth, new stores, and newer ideas, I believe that Floor & Decor can double its revenue in the next five years or so. That's a good opportunity for investors. It's widely agreed that Home Depot is a great business, but even the most bullish shareholders would have to concede that its growth prospects are somewhat slim. Floor & Decor's growth outlook is much better. And yet, in spite of this, the price-to-sales (P/S) valuation for Home Depot stock is much more expensive. One might object to my valuation comparison, pointing to Home Depot's superior profit margins, which is true. That said, a growth company such as Floor & Decor shouldn't be expected to be optimized for profits in the same way as a mature business such as Home Depot. During the pandemic-fueled home improvement spending boom, Floor & Decor had a profit margin of over 8%, which is about what Home Depot's margin is now. Therefore, the company is capable of better -- it's proved it. And even during this period of sluggish flooring sales, it still has a profit margin of about 5%. In other words, Floor & Decor stock is cheap when looking at its growth prospects. Those who think it should be cheaper because of its lower profit margins might not be seeing the whole picture. I've long believed Floor & Decor is simple idea and yet a strong multibagger investment opportunity. That hasn't changed. But now that this American stock is trading at one of its cheapest valuations ever, and even at a discount to more mature businesses such as Home Depot, I believe now is the time to buy Floor & Decor stock like there's no tomorrow. Catching Falling Knives? Smart Strategies for Buying Stocks in a Downturn.

Difficult market times may present an opportunity -- if you know how to plan for and manage them. To win in a tough market and beyond, it's important to invest for the long term. 10 stocks we like better than S&P 500 Index › As stock prices decline, you may feel as if you're at the world's biggest sale. Suddenly, stocks that seemed expensive weeks ago are trading at bargain valuations. You may be tempted to jump in and catch that falling knife, hoping you're buying at the best price. Of course, it's nearly impossible to time the market, so you're unlikely to buy a stock at its lowest and sell at its highest. If you're a short-term investor, this could be a problem. In this case, it's risky to buy a stock as it's dropping because it may take a while for it to recover and go on to gain. Meanwhile, if you aim to sell in a few days or weeks, you may have caught the knife by the blade and find yourself recording a loss. However, if you're a long-term investor, the picture looks much different. You can buy stocks during a downturn because, by holding on for five years or more, you're giving those companies time to recover and grow and the share price an opportunity to reflect that progress. Now, let's check out some smart strategies for buying stocks during a downturn. Although on the one hand, those bargain stock prices may have caught your eye, you might still worry about investing when the general environment seems uncertain. What if current problems persist? What if stocks fall even further? Those questions could be running through your mind. This is when it's a good time to consider what history has to say. My colleague Adam Levy recently wrote about what has generally happened after stocks fall into a correction, and this offers us reason to invest with confidence during these periods. The S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has slid into the correction zone 15 times since 2008, Adam wrote, citing Dow Jones Market Data, and in all but two of those times, the index was higher a year later. This means that corrections offer us a fantastic buying opportunity, one that will generally start delivering in the not-too-distant future. It doesn't matter when you buy during the correction; even if stocks continue to decline, your gain may still be significant once shares recover and travel through stronger market environments. So, the message here is not to hesitate to buy stocks during a correction. History shows that it's been a great bet for long-term investors. Finally, it's also a smart idea to look at buyback activity in the recent past. In the fourth quarter of last year, for example, S&P 500 buybacks increased by more than 7% to about $243 billion, suggesting companies are confident about the future. So, growth in share repurchases supports the idea of investing regardless of what the market is doing at the moment. It's impossible to know when the market will enter its next negative phase, but we know it will occur at some point. Markets go through bull and bear markets, as well as many other periods of gains and declines, from rallies to market downturns. Some are short, and some are long. But the good news is that difficult periods don't last forever, and certain types of stocks can help you weather the storm. Generally, the sort of stock that will help your portfolio during a downturn is a value stock. These stocks are in well-established industries, such as energy, healthcare, or financials, and they generate a considerable amount of cash and pay dividends. They are strong, steady, and reliable, and that's why they tend to outperform during tough times. And, of course, investors are especially appreciative of their dividend payments when markets are down. The MSCI World Value Index climbed 6.1% in 2022, a down year for the overall market, outperforming the MSCI World Growth Index by more than 26%, according to a report by Quilter Investors. All this means that when markets are rallying and growth stocks are soaring, stock up on value stocks that may support your portfolio during the next tough period. If you have a certain amount of money to invest, you could deploy it all at once in a lump sum or use cost averaging, which involves investing the same amount of money in a particular asset on a regular schedule for a set period. So, for example, in lump-sum investing, you might invest $1,000 right now in Nvidia. In cost averaging, you might invest $100 in Nvidia every Monday for 10 weeks. Which strategy will produce the best return? A study by Vanguard shows that lump-sum investing beats cost averaging 68% of the time. That said, the study also showed that in the worst market environments, lump-sum investing resulted in bigger losses. So, which option should you choose? It depends on your relationship with risk. If you're a very cautious investor, you might try cost averaging, at least with certain investments, while aggressive investors may opt for deploying a lump sum right away. In either case, though, investing is a better idea than just holding onto cash. The Vanguard study also found that both techniques outperformed cash at least 69% of the time. This means that, even in the most difficult of environments, if you're willing to hold on for the long term, you're better off investing than staying out of the market. Before you buy stock in S&P 500 Index, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the for investors to buy now… and S&P 500 Index wasn't one of them.
