In case you haven't heard, Legally Blonde is getting its long-awaited prequel!

Set to premiere in the summer of 2026, the series will star newcomer Lexi Minetree as Elle and follow the iconic character throughout high school. 'Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film,' the official synopsis reads.
'Elle is in high school, so she's figuring out who she is as a person,' Minetree told Us Weekly at the Amazon Upfronts event on May 12. 'She definitely loves fashion still, just like she did in the movie, but I think what audiences are gonna love is that she really gets to discover herself during this time.'
'I truly couldn't be more excited about this series!' Reese Witherspoon said in the original announcement. 'Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?!'
First things first, Lexi Minetree will be playing Elle Woods. While you might not have heard her name before, her IMDb credits span back to 2016, starting with a series of short movies. Most notably, she acted in The Murdaugh Murders and in one episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
On May 15, Dawson's Creek alum James Van Der Beek was confirmed by Deadline in the show as Dean Wilson, the city's new mayoral candidate and current school district superintendent. This will be Van Der Beek's first role since opening up about her battle with colorectal cancer.
On March 24, actor Tom Everett Scott was confirmed by Deadline to be playing Elle's dad, Wyatt. He's most known for his roles in movies like That Thing You Do!, Boiler Room and Because I Said So. He's also starred in many TV shows over the years, including The Summer I Turned Pretty, Philly and Reign.
On March 11, Deadline announced that June Diane Raphael will be playing Elle's mom, Eva. '[Eva] is polished, pragmatic and thrives on keeping things picture-perfect,' the description of the character said.
You might know Raphael from many of her previous projects like New Girl, Grace and Frankie, Burning Love and Adult Swim's NTSF:SD:SUV.
Next up are a few of the actors who will be playing fellow high schoolers on the show. Per Deadline, Jacob Moskovitz, known for his roles in Y2K and Isle Child, will be playing Miles, the school's star athlete who is charmed by Elle.
Actress Chandler Kinney, who starred in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and made it far in Dancing With the Stars season 33, will be Kimberly, a sharp-tongued senior who is not a fan of Elle.
Another potential high school nemesis for Elle is Liz, played by Babygirl actress Gabrielle Policano. Liz was described in the announcement as the 'anti-Elle Woods.'
Also joining the high school is Zac Looker as Dustin. Per Deadline, Dustin is Elle's classmate and sparring partner who cares about social justice and isn't afraid to challenge authority. Looker previously starred in Geek Girl, A Kind of Spark and Invasion.
Actress Jessica Belkin will be a recurring character on the show as Elle's best friend, Madison. She's best known for her work in American Horror Story: Hotel, Just Add Magic and Last Straw.
Logan Shroyer, who famously played teen Kevin in This Is Us from 2016 to 2022, will be Madison's cousin and Elle's crush, Josh.
Also in the cast will be Amy Pietz as Donna, the 'no-nonsense high school secretary.' Pietz is most known for her roles in Caroline in the City, Rodney and Aliens in America.
Also in the high school staff will be Matt Oberg, a comedic actor known for his roles in Sisters, Abbott Elementary, and Fresh Off the Boat, who will play the high school principal, Principal Anderson.
The high school will also have Chloe Wepper as Ms. Burke, Elle's chemistry teacher and choreographer to the high school cheer team. Wepper is known from Good Trouble, The Rookie and Family Switch.
The Bold and the Beautiful star Lisa Yamada will be playing Amber, a Bel Air high school friend in Elle's social circle.
David Burtka will be playing Chad, Elle's family's neighbor. Burtka is known for his roles in How I Met Your Mother and Neil Puppet Dreams alongside his husband, Neil Patrick Harris.
Brad Harder, who starred in Jingle Bell Run, Cruel Summer and Virgin River, will be playing Charlie (no details on him so far).
Lastly, Kayla Maisonet will be Tiffany, a Bel Air high school friend in Elle's social circle. She's starred in a series of kids' shows like Dog With a Blog, Stuck in the Middle, and Speechless.
Now that we've gotten cast out of the way, here's who will be behind the scenes making the show. Creator Laura Kittrell is co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries, while Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore, aka the director of Pitch Perfect and Shotgun Wedding, is set to direct the first two episodes.Best of SheKnows

Niecy Nash-Betts & Kathy Bates Just Bonded Over the Worst Career Advice They've Ever Received

While we'd all love to only give and receive great advice, we can all probably think of a couple of times when advice from a friend, family member, or even mentor just didn't land. For Niecy Nash-Betts and Kathy Bates, who recently joined The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actress Roundtable, remembering the worst advice they've ever received was pretty easy, partly because of how bad they were. More from SheKnows The Best Bras for Your Teen - & How to Shop Together Without Dying of Embarrassment To Nash-Betts, who won her first Emmy Award in 2024 for her role in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, she talked about how she was once told not to marry her wife, Jessica Betts, in 2020. 'Everybody has an opinion!' Nash-Betts said. 'There were people who were like, 'Your fan base has known you to be a certain way, and you need to stay right there. Otherwise, you'll never eat lunch in this town again.' Some of that comes from older generations, family members, and that's how they think.' 'But I've always been a person who does one thing: what I want to do,' she continued. 'And I'm going to do it all the way. I give very little thought, if any, to what somebody else thinks about it.' And, as fans of Nash-Betts know, she's still head over heels for her wife, and surely hasn't regretted the decision since. 'I cannot even imagine my life without Jessica,' she gushed. 'This is the greatest love of my entire life. I would not even be able to enjoy my work as much as I do without that kind of support. So I did what I wanted to do. I don't regret it. I would do it again. As a matter of fact, we are about to celebrate five years.' Nash-Betts then revealed that she and Jessica, who tied the knot in August 2020, are planning a 'big party' as a vow renewal. 'Just so I can say 'In your face' to whoever told me not to get married,' she said. For Bates, who's reaching new heights of TV critical acclaim recently for her role in Matlock, her worst advice was similar. According to her, she too was once told to keep an important part of her life a secret from the rest of the world. Sadly, she listened to it. 'I had ovarian cancer in 2003, and my agent said, 'Don't tell anybody. You don't want to be the poster child for ovarian cancer,'' she remembered. Looking back, she regrets keeping quiet. 'I think if I had come out at that point, maybe it would have helped some people,' Bates said. Years later, when she battled breast cancer in 2012, she didn't make the same mistake. 'I regret not doing that [the first time]. Because I went underground,' she said. 'I was on the board at the Academy, and I called them and said, 'I can't come to any of the meetings.' I just hid for a whole year. So it was bad advice, career and personal.' Whether they listened to the terrible advice or not, we hope the people who once said these things are listening and regretting ever giving their opinion. New musical Come Fall in Love 'is a show for everyone' say stars

Manchester once again finds itself in the spotlight with the UK premiere of a new musical. Inspired by the the longest-running movie in Indian cinema Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, - DDLJ to its legions of fans - Come Fall in Love certainly has a lot to live up to. The multi-award winning DDLJ has been playing continuously in Mumbai since its release in 1995. The company of Come Fall In Love in rehearsal (Image: Craig Sugden) But one look at the team behind Come Fall in Love indicates that it's a show which is more than up to the task. The book and lyrics are by Nell Benjamin who was responsible for Mean Girls and who won an Olivier Award winner for Legally Blonde. The music - 18 original English language songs - is by Vishal and Shekhar, the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber of Bollywood and directing the whole thing is Aditya Chopra, who was responsible for the original movie which has inspired the show. For the musical's stars, Jena Pandya and Ashley Day, bringing the production to the stage could have proved a daunting experience. But their excitement at being part of something special is palpable. 'What was nice is that we had a workshop about six months before we started rehearsals which allowed me to get into the right head space to be working with such legends,' said Jena. 'They have been so nice and put to much trust in us. I feel so lucky to be part of this team." Ashley added: 'I've worked in musical theatre for 20 years (he's starred in An American in Paris and The Book of Mormon) but to experience this has been amazing.' Come Fall in Love was performed in San Diego in 2022 but the show has been considerably reworked for its UK debut at the Opera House. Jena plays Simran, a young British Asian woman who is travelling around Europe before her arranged marriage. On her travels she meets Rog, played by Ashley, a self-styled party boy and an unlikely romance develops. 'I think the conscious decision that was made to change to plot to introduce Rog as a British white boy is so important,' said Ashley. 'It's now about two cultures and right now that's so modern and so relevant. It's good medicine.' The quality of the writing and the music has deeply affected both of the stars. 'Legally Blonde has to be the best movie to stage adaptation of them all,' said Ashley. 'So to have Nell involved with this production is amazing. She's able to get really under the skin of the characters and her storytelling is so witty and clever. 'Then there's Vishal and Shekar, they're absolute legends. The fact that this is their first stage musical absolutely blows my mind.' 'Each song has its own style,' added Jena. 'Even in rehearsals where the surroundings are not particularly atmospheric, it makes me emotional. It's just the way they have done it blending authentic Indian melodies with songs which are pure pop, are punky or just rock. Everyone can watch it and love it.' Ashley Day and Jena Pandya in Come Fall in Love (Image: ATG) Both Ashley and Jena are keen to stress that you don't even have to be aware of DDLJ to love Come Fall in Love. 'What is great is that you don't need to know the film,' said Jena. 'It works as a stand-alone story; it's so energetic, it sucks you in and makes you feel so much – happy, sad all of those things. I think that's what people will love it. 'Of course I hope fans of the original film will come and they will feel that nostalgia for a film which has been part of their lives for so long. 'But if you're totally new to the show, you're going to love it too,' said Ashley. 'It's such a big show, it really is something special.' So how do the two stars compare to the characters they play? Simran is highly organised, someone who initially keeps her emotions under tight control. 'In some ways I suppose I am quite similar to Simran,' said Jena. 'I can certainly understand why she like the way she is. She has such strong values she has to stick to, and has always got this conflict going on inside her head to keep her friends happy and her family happy which does make her be a bit tightly strung at times. 'It's fun to play as she goes on this journey where she loosens up and falls in love. 'I do see myself in her especially in the way I react to my own dad, he's a classic Indian dad so it's fun to play that dynamic, that's not really acting - sorry dad, but he'd probably say the same thing!' As for loud, brash party boy Rog? 'Maybe there was a time a long time ago I was as confident as he is,' said Ashley. 'But when we first meet him he does some things which made me feel a bit 'icky'. He's not a great guy at the beginning. But he changes so much through the show - it's a great story arc.' Bringing any brand new show to the stage is a challenge and the stars of Come Fall in Love had a simple message for audiences. 'I'd say to people this probably will open your eyes in a way you didn't think they would in a musical,' said Ashley. 'You're going to feel a lot of soul and humanity and it's not fluff.' 'Don't think that this is a show for any one audience,' said Jena. 'If you think maybe you won't enjoy it or it's not for you, that's not the case.' Come Fall in Love is at Manchester Opera House until Saturday, June 21. Details from

Diddy Trial Proves 'A Lot Has Changed' Since #MeToo Movement Began, Bill Maher Says: 'It's Not Victim-Shaming' To Expect Women To 'Leave Toxic Relationships'

The Diddy trial is still unfolding, but Bill Maher believes it has already shown that a 'new rule' should be imposed for sexual assault cases nearly eight years after the start of the #MeToo movement. In his end-of-show monologue on Real Time Friday (watch it above), Maher used the prosecution of Sean 'Diddy' Combs as a prism for how sexual misconduct is viewed in society and in the justice system. 'A lot has changed' since the initial wave of allegations against Harvey Weinstein and many others in 2017, he maintained. More from Deadline 'Real Time': Bill Maher Compares Gen Z To 'The White Lotus' Character In Anti-Woke Rant 'Real Time': Tommy Chong Recalls "Bugging" Terrence Malick To Direct A 'Cheech & Chong' Movie Terrence Howard Turned Down A Lee Daniels-Directed Marvin Gaye Biopic Because He "Could Not" Kiss A Man: "I Would Cut My Lips Off" 'We need to keep two thoughts in our head at the same time: One, Diddy is a bad dude – really bad. Like, the worst thing in rap since Hammer pants. A violent, sick f–k – I'm sorry, an alleged violent, sick f–k. And we should lock him up and throw away the baby oil,' Maher said. 'And two, things have changed enough that moving forward, the rule should be, if you're being abused, you've got to leave right away.' The host pointed out what he sees as inconsistencies in the testimony of Cassie Ventura, Diddy's former girlfriend. 'It's not victim-shaming to expect women to have the agency to leave toxic relationships. Quite the contrary, to not expect that is infantilizing,' Maher said. 'If Diddy walks free, it will because his lawyers can point to an endless stream of texts from Cassie expressing what's often called 'enthusiastic consent' to their sex life. If you're 'MeToo-ing' someone, it's not helpful to your case if you texted him, 'me too!'' A graphic on the screen next to Maher displayed text messages from Ventura to Combs presented at trial, including one that read, 'I'm always ready to freak off.' Years ago, 'when women felt, for good reason, that 'OG predators' like Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein would never be held accountable, why not at least get something out of it?' Maher said. Most of the initially accused perpetrators were surrounded by 'all sorts of enablers' (assistants, cops, agents, 'cowards' afraid to defy the person signing their paycheck), Maher recalled. In that era, 'it was not illogical for an abused woman to say, 'Well, if I can't get justice for my pain, can I at least get a receipt? A coupon?'' Maher did acknowledge, 'as counter-intuitive as it seems, why an abused woman would send complimentary text.' Unlike in past eras, though, he argued, 'We're not in the 'no one listens to women or takes them seriously' era anymore. Operators are actually standing by to take your calls.' Statistics show more women have reported claims of abuse and mistreatment over the past seven-plus years, Maher pointed out. 'I understand why it can be difficult for women to leave an abusive relationship,' he said. 'But this should be society's new grand bargain. We take every allegation seriously, but don't tell me anymore about your contemporaneous account that you said to two friends 10 years ago. Tell the police right away. Don't wait a decade. Don't journal about it. Don't turn it into a one-woman show. And most importantly, don't keep f–king him. Your only contemporaneous notes about what he did should be a police report.' The show-business sparkle of the music business also can't be eliminated from the Diddy situation or others that have played out in Hollywood, Maher continued. 'If we're going to have an honest conversation about abuse, we also have to have an honest conversation about what people are willing to do for stardom. If you want a No. 1 record so bad you'll take a No. 1 in the face, some of that is on you,' he said. 'And if you're doing it for love, well, c'mon, Oprah and Dr. Phil and every podcaster in the world by now have done a million shows about 'abuse is not love' and 'abusers don't change.'' R&B singer Ike Turner 'was a psycho, just like Diddy,' Maher said. 'But in an era when there was no movement to help her, Tina Turner somehow got away and she did it with 36 cents in her pocket and a mobile card.'
