It's not just the New York Knicks responsible for the Celtics craning their necks looking up from an unthinkable 0-2 hole. It's hubris.
We presumed winning a championship last year changed the Celtics indelibly for the better. Maybe, it just made them more stubborn and arrogant, misled by the playoff path of least resistance they traveled last spring.

This second-round series has made it clear the Celtics haven't shed or outgrown all their frustrating flaws — playing down to the level of their competition, losing focus after building leads, refusing to adjust to the circumstances of the game they're playing vs. adhering to Joe Mazzulla Math where everything adds up to three(s).

We may not know which way the Big Man is cheering, but we do know one thing: the Pope is texting about the 'Nova Knicks.
We are the team of destiny now.
Villanova pope 🤝 Nova Knicks
— Mikey O'ver (@MikeyOver1)
First, some backstory, for those who haven't seen the AT&T commercial a million times: Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart played together at Villanova, winning a title together in 2016 (although
And unless you live under a rock, you must know by now that Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, attended Villanova for his undergraduate degree.
When Cardinal Robert Prevost was announced on Thursday as the next pope, the jokes immediately started to hit.
Celtics finding out the New Pope went to Villanova

But then I started wondering: Could a Cardinal (now pope) truly follow basketball? Especially one who has lived for so long outside of the United States, and has such an important role in the Catholic Church? No way, right?
Yes, way. Yep, you read that right: Pope Leo XIV is, in fact, a basketball fan.
'We've had a lot of fun watching the Knicks because Jalen and Josh and Donte (DiVincenzo) was there and now Mikal is there,'

He said the pair often text (text!) about Villanova basketball.
'I think that Pope Leo will still keep an eye on the Nova Knicks. I think he'll still keep an eye on the Wildcats, and I think he'll be very proud of not just who they are but the way that they play with a certain spirit and unselfishness.'
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau will take it. When asked about his players' connection to Pope Leo XIV,
'Now they can be forgiven for their sins.'
But Celtics faithful, do not let yourselves despair.
Coach Joe Mazzulla has always been open about his own faith. Perhaps the lack of a Pope could have been the reason for the Celtics' struggles in Games 1 and 2? The numbers check out.
It's hard to dispute this, those are solid advanced numbers right there 🤷🏻‍♀️☘️

What are we praying for? Just some good basketball. Amen.

Loïs Boisson up 296 places in rankings, Jannik Sinner keeps top spot after French Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz

PARIS — Loïs Boisson, the revelation of the French Open, has rocketed 296 places up the WTA rankings after her fairy-tale run at Roland-Garros. The Frenchwoman, who was 361st before making it to the semifinals at the clay-court Grand Slam, jumped to 65th in the latest edition of the rankings. Coco Gauff defeated Boisson in the semifinals en route to her first French Open title. There was no change at the top of the rankings, with Aryna Sabalenka leading the pack ahead of Gauff and her fellow American Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka lost to Gauff in the Roland-Garros final. A wild-card entry in Paris, Boisson upset the third-seeded Pegula to reach the quarterfinals, then defeated sixth-ranked Mirra Andreeva before Gauff ended her unexpected run. After retaining his title in the longest ever final at Roland-Garros against top-ranked Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz remained in second spot in the men's ATP rankings behind his Italian rival. Despite the loss, Sinner increased his lead to 2,030 points because Alcaraz, as the defending champion, was unable to add any points. Sinner gained 500 points by reaching the final, having lost in the semifinals last year. Third-ranked Alexander Zverev dropped 900 points after his loss to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic moved up to fifth place behind fourth-ranked Jack Draper.

UFC returns to Vancouver with Oct. 18 Fight Night show at Rogers Arena

VANCOUVER - The UFC is returning to Vancouver for an Oct. 18 Fight Night show at Rogers Arena. It will mark Vancouver's seventh UFC event since 2010, tying Toronto for the second-most UFC events in Canada (behind Montreal). The UFC's most recent visit to the city was UFC 289 in June 2023, drawing 17,628 fans and a $5.14-million live gate. The mixed martial arts promotion has held 35 shows across 11 cities in Canada, debuting with UFC 83 in Montreal in 2008. In other Canadian UFC news, flyweight Jamey-Lyn Horth of Squamish, B.C., has a new opponent in American Vanessa (Lil Monster) Demopoulos, replacing Czechia's Tereza Bledá, on the UFC's June 14 Fight Night card in Atlanta. Horth (7-2-0) is coming off a December loss to American Miranda (Fear The) Maverick, who is ranked 11th among 125-pound contenders. Horth is 2-2-0 in the UFC. Demopoulos (11-7-0) is 5-4-0 in the UFC but has lost her last two outings. —- This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 9, 2025 Error! Coco Gauff Wins French Open Title & Immediately Quotes Tyler, The Creator, Social Media Applauds

Source: Robert Prange / Getty America is back on top. Coco Gauff has won the French Open singles finals against Aryna Sabalenka. Top-ranked Sabalenka came out firing on all cylinders, beating second-ranked Gauff in the first set, but she came charging back to win, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. On Court Philippe-Chatrier, Gauff found herself down 1-4 at first and fought back for a tie-breaking point that eventually went to Sabalenka, but by then, she'd already discovered her momentum. Gauff had a big lead in the first set's tiebreaker, but Sabalenka's sheer power won out. She built on that in the second set, as Sabalenka kept falling victim to her own forced errors amid an impossibly windy day. Gauff had an early double break and remained calm, while her opponent's emotional swings affected her play. More momentum shifted in the third set, even down to championship point, which Gauff won off Sabalenka hitting it out of bounds. Gauff also made some history as the underdog in the match. Her losing the first set but winning the match marks only the 10th time that's happened in the women's finals. The last time an American woman won a French Open singles title was Serena Williams in 2015. Now, 21-year-old Gauff is the youngest to take home the Roland-Garros trophy since Williams in 2002. The win is another addition to Gauff's impressive list, which includes nine doubles titles, including the 2024 French Open . On her own, she's won ten career singles titles, and this French Open win becomes her second major win, with her first coming at the 2023 US Open. 'The crowd really helped me today, you guys were cheering for me so hard,' she began her acceptance speech. 'I appreciate you guys, merci beaucoup. I didn't think I could do it, but I'm going to quote Tyler, the Creator.' She continues, paraphrasing Tyler, The Creator's bars from 'St. Chroma': 'If I ever told you I had a doubt inside me, I must be lying.' See how social media is reacting below.
