Heat health alert issued in Sussex for first time this year
A heat health warning has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
A yellow heat-health alert was issued today for the South East, which covers all of Sussex.
The alert is in effect from June 12 at 9:00pm to June 15 at 8:00am.
It is the first time in 2025 that heat-health warnings have been issued by UKHSA.
UKHSA said: "Minor impacts are likely across health and social services.
"These include: increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people; greater risk to life of vulnerable people; increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm."
The weather health alerting system is provided by UKHSA in partnership with the Met Office.
It's intended to provide early warning to the health and social care sector, the responder community, the voluntary and community sector, and government departments when adverse temperatures are likely to impact the health and wellbeing of the population.

The weather health alerting system underpins the Adverse Weather and Health Plan.
The heat health alert comes on the back of the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning due to the possibility of thunderstorms across the South East, including all of Sussex.

The warning from the Met Office is in place for the East and South East of England, from 3:00 pm on Friday (June 13) to 6:00 am on Saturday (June 14).
The Met Office warns that thunderstorms may bring "some disruption" across the region, with a chance of "torrential" rain and lightning.
There is also potential for power cuts and flooding.
The Met Office is currently forecasting temperatures of up to 24 degrees in Brighton on Friday.

'After this first batch of rain moves north, further heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out in its wake. 'Rainfall will vary across the warning area and some places will avoid the heaviest rain. 'However, 10-20 mm of rain is likely to fall in some places in an hour or less, with potential for 30-50 mm to accumulate in a few hours. 'Event rainfall could reach 60-80 mm in some locations. Strong gusts and hail may also accompany some of the thunderstorms.' Additionally, the Met Office has shared the following advice: 'Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. 'Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Before gusty winds arrive, check to ensure moveable objects or temporary structures are well secured. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences. 'Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.' It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items. 'If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, protect yourself by finding a safe enclosed shelter (such as a car). Do not shelter under or near trees, or other structures which may be struck by lightning. If you are on an elevated area move to lower ground.'
