Former Derry captain Chrissy McKaigue believes his county will go into Saturday's crunch Group Four game against Dublin with "full belief" despite their winless 2025. Derry, Dublin and Galway (who take on Armagh with the All-Ireland champions having already booked their quarter-final spot) all enter this weekend with a chance of progressing to the last 12 of the All-Ireland series. Derry City held by Galway United at Brandywell
Derry City had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Galway United in the Premier Division at Brandywell. David Hurley gave Galway the lead on 10 minutes from the penalty spot before Kevin Holt equalised for the home side less than 10 minutes later. Tiernan Lynch's side are now four games without a win and 11 points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers. Despite drawing Derry move up to fifth position in the table, one point ahead of champions Shelbourne managed by Damian Duff who they travel to Tolka Park to face next Friday night. Galway United are now unbeaten in their last three and sit seventh in the table ahead of a home game against Stephen Kenny's St Patrick's Athletic next weekend. The visitors were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes with referee Declan Toland adjudging that a Derry defender had pulled a Galway attacker back in the box. Hurley stepped up and sat Brian Maher down before rolling the ball down the middle to give the Tribesmen an unlikely lead. The Candystripes would reply less than 10 minutes later in rather fortuitous fashion. Michael Duffy's cross from the right found Gavin Whyte who first had his effort blocked before the Galway defenders attempted clearance cannoned back off Derry defender Holt and it ended up in the back of the net. Danny Mullen twice came close for the home side before the break with Sam Todd heading over a Duffy free-kick late in the half. Neither side looked like winning the game in a second half devoid of any real chances or quality in the final third.
