Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport looks more aggressive than the standard variant.
The newly introduced Toyota Corolla Cross GR SPORT represents an evolution of the Corolla Cross SUV with a sportier character whilst maintaining the core strengths of practicality, reliability and hybrid efficiency. As part of Toyota's expanding SUV lineup in Europe, this new variant brings both visual and mechanical enhancements aimed at customers who value a more engaging driving experience. Here are its five key highlights:
2 Design
To back up its sportier look, the GR SPORT version of the Corolla Cross comes with functional upgrades. The suspension has been lowered by 10 mm, resulting in a lower centre of gravity and improved handling characteristics. Steering has been specifically tuned for quicker response, and paddle shifters allow for manual gear changes, enhancing driver engagement. The introduction of a dedicated Sport Mode changes how the car accelerates and decelerates — increasing engine idle speed for sharper throttle response, while also enhancing braking feel during deceleration. Additionally, the Snow Extra mode, already available on the standard AWD-i versions, is included here as well, helping to maintain stability on slippery surfaces.
3 Interior
Inside, the Corolla Cross GR SPORT benefits from several usability improvements. The centre console has been redesigned with a more practical layout, including a new sliding storage box, updated cup holder positioning, and a dedicated space for smartphone storage. Wireless charging is now included as standard, and Android connectivity has been improved — now 1.5 times faster — to match Apple CarPlay performance. The infotainment system features a 10.5-inch high-definition touchscreen, while most variants in Europe also come with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Higher trims offer additional comfort features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and updated ambient lighting.

The European Commission accused Google of abusing its dominant position by pressuring phone manufacturers to pre-install its search engine and Google Chrome, effectively sidelining competitors. The European Union has introduced the Digital Markets Act to more effectively regulate tech giants, providing clear guidelines on acceptable online practices, following a series of significant antitrust fines against Google. Google suffered a legal blow at the European Court of Justice on Thursday, when the body's adviser recommended upholding a record fine imposed on the company for anti-competitive practices . The US tech giant has been trying to overturn on appeal a 4.3-billion-euro ($4.9 billion) fine imposed by the European Commission in 2018, which was later reduced to 4.1 billion euros. But in its opinion, Juliane Kokott , advocate general at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), said "the legal arguments put forward by Google are ineffective", the court later said in a statement. Although not binding, such advice carries weight and is often followed by EU judges in their rulings. The commission, the EU's antitrust regulator, had accused Google of abusing the popularity of its Android operating system to restrict competition. It alleged Google pressured phone makers using Android to pre-install its search engine and Google Chrome browser -- essentially shutting out rivals. The findings were upheld in 2022 by the European Union's second-highest court, which slightly reduced the fine. The levy remains the EU's biggest ever. Arguing that the commission's case was unfounded and that the sanction penalised innovation, Google appealed to the EU's top court. The company had also pushed the case that the EU was unfairly blind to Apple, which gives preference to its own services, such as Safari on iPhones. Thursday's advice will guide the EUCJ in its decision. The court has the final say on the matter. "Google held a dominant position in several markets of the Android-ecosystem and thus benefited from network effects that enabled it to ensure that users used Google Search," the court said, detailing Kokott's opinion. "As a result, Google obtained access to data that enabled it in turn to improve its service. No hypothetical as-efficient competitor could have found itself in such a situation," the statement read. As part of a major push to target big tech abuses, the EU slapped Google with fines worth a total of 8.2 billion euros between 2017 and 2019 over antitrust violations. This set off a series of long-running legal battles. Brussels has since armed itself with a more powerful legal weapon known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA), to rein in tech giants. Rather than regulators discovering egregious antitrust violations after probes lasting many years, the DMA gives businesses a list of what they can and cannot do online. In March, the commission informed Google parent Alphabet that preliminary reviews concluded its search engine and Google Play app store operated in ways that run afoul of the new rules.

Meta has announced the introduction of passkeys as a new method of login for Facebook users on mobile devices. The feature is being rolled out for both iOS and Android platforms, with plans to extend support to Messenger in the near future. Passkeys are digital credentials that replace traditional passwords, allowing users to authenticate their identity using biometric methods such as fingerprint or facial recognition, or a device PIN. Developed by the FIDO Alliance, an industry group focused on improving digital security, passkeys are designed to provide a more secure and convenient way to access online accounts. According to Meta, passkeys offer a higher level of protection against common cyber threats such as phishing and credential theft. Unlike passwords, passkeys cannot be guessed or stolen via malicious websites, and they are resistant to techniques like password spraying. Users can set up a passkey through the Accounts Center located in Facebook's settings. In some cases, they may be prompted to create one during the login process. Once set up, the passkey will enable quicker and more secure access to Facebook on mobile devices that support the feature. The same passkey will also function for Messenger when support is introduced. Meta plans to extend the use of passkeys to other services, including autofilling payment details via Meta Pay and securing encrypted message backups. While the passkey becomes the default method on supported devices, users will retain the ability to log in using their password on devices that do not yet support passkey functionality. Meta has confirmed that the biometric data used to generate the passkey remains on the user's device and is neither visible to nor stored by the company. The same engine also does the job in the Lexus LX 700h luxury SUV. In addition to the new petrol-hybrid powertrain, the Land Cruiser 300 hybrid features a few subtle design revisions when compared to the regular model. It features a redesigned front bumper and a slightly enlarged air intake, along with HEV-specific badging on the boot lid.
