Mumbai receives heavy rainfall, IMD predicts possibility of occasional light spells of rain
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 2 (ANI): Mumbai city received heavy rainfall on Monday. Rain lashed several parts of the city.
The India Meterological Department IMD earlier today predicted a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of occasional light spells of rain in the city and suburbs for today.
The IMD said that maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, on May 28, Mumbai city received heavy rainfall.
The IMD said that quantitatively, the southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the country as a whole is likely to be 106 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of +-4 percent, indicating that above normal rainfall is most likely over the country as a whole during the monsoon season (June to September), 2025.
'The southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September, 2025) rainfall is most likely to be above normal over Central India and South Peninsular India (>106% of LPA), normal over Northwest India (92-108% of LPA) and below normal over Northeast India (94% of LPA),' the IMD said in a press release.
The southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the Monsoon Core Zone (MCZ) consisting of most of the rainfed agriculture areas in the country is most likely to be above normal (>106% of LPA).
During June to September 2025, normal to above normal rainfall is very likely over most parts of the country except some areas of Northwest and East India, and many areas of Northeast India where below normal rainfall is very likely.
Earlier, the national capital on Sunday witnessed a spell of rain, accompanied by strong winds over the southern parts of Delhi.
The rains are due to an east-southeastward-moving cloud cluster, according to the Meteorological Department.
The spell of rain offered a much-needed respite from the heat, as the national capital recorded maximum temperatures of more than 39 C earlier in the morning. According to IMD, Safdarjung area recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar 39.5 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road 39.4 degrees Celsius and Palam recorded 39.1 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued warnings of thunderstorms, lightning and squall for the next two days, on June 2-3, in the national capital. (ANI)

IMD's local forecast for Pune and neighbouring areas is partly cloudy skies which may become generally cloudy towards the afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall are likely over the next few days. Maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30°C-33°C, while minimum temperature will range between 23°C-24°C. The weather department has advised residents to stay alert during noon/evening hours when thunderstorm activity is most likely to occur. Heat builds up again in state as monsoon holds back
Bhopal: The day temperature in the city is again inching towards 40 degrees Celsius mark. In the weather outlook, the meteorological dept on Friday stated that a gradual rise in temperature by 2 degrees to 4 degrees Celsius in the next four days. Besides, the dept stated that the northern limit of monsoon continues to pass through Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri, Sandhead Island, and Balurghat. The day temperature in Bhopal on Friday was recorded at 38.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees less than the normal for this time of the year, while night temperature in the city was 23.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees less than the normal mark. In the forecast for Bhopal on Saturday, the meteorological dept stated there would be partly cloudy sky with chances of thundery development in the afternoon and evening hours. Day and night temperature would be respectively 39 degrees celsius and 24 degrees celsius while average wind speed will be 20 kilometers per hour. In the forecast for the state, the dept issued warning of thunderstorm with lightning or gusty wind 40 kmph-50 kmph at isolated places in Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopurkalan, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari dists.
