Child, 12, ‘assisting police' over fatal stabbing in Broken Hill home
A child is 'assisting police' with an investigation into a fatal stabbing at an outback home. A 36-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds to his neck when emergency services responded to concern for welfare reports about 11.50pm on June 5, NSW Police said. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the home on Duff St, Broken Hill — an outback town in NSW approximately 30 minutes east of the South Australian border — but he could not be revived. 'A 12-year-old boy is assisting police with inquiries into the circumstances leading up to (the man's death),' NSW Police said. 'Police intend to seek legal advice in relation to the matter. 'No charges have been laid at this time.' Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Bodies found in granny flat: investigation under way into 'suspicious' deaths
Investigators have descended on a leafy, suburban street after two bodies were discovered in a backyard granny flat. The bodies were discovered at 9.30pm on June 11 in the Cannons Parade flat in Forestville on Sydney's Northern Beaches after a friend of the deceased asked police to check on the couple. A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, and a woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, were found at the flat, police said. They are yet to be formally identified. Detective Superintendent John Duncan said the couple hadn't been seen since June 7. They were known to the NSW Police "for minor matters", but the detective superintendent said they had no reported history of domestic violence in NSW. Their cause of death is yet to be established, but the detective superintendent said the bodies suffered lacerations. Three pets - two dogs and a cat - were in the flat with the bodies, police said. The animals were taken to a vet for assessment. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has called out the 'unfair' treatment of veteran forward Taylor Walker after he was caught up in unsubstantiated claims alleging St Kilda's Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera had ruled out moving to the club due to a historical racism incident. Reports early in the week suggested Wanganeen-Milera, who is off contract at the Saints and being courted by both South Australian clubs, had ruled out the Crows because of Walker's indiscretion in 2021. The former Adelaide captain was given a six-match ban and a $20,000 sanction after being overheard making a racist comment at a SANFL match. But both Wanganeen-Milera's manager and the player vehemently denied the report, with Walker also reaching out to seek clarification, which was given to him. In the wake of the fallout, Nicks said he was proud of how Walker handled the situation, his growth since the 2021 incident, and lashed the way it was played out, calling out a 'lack of accountability' in contract speculation. 'I didn't like the way it played out at all. I think it was unfair to a lot of people,' Nicks said. 'But no, I didn't get any more involved than checking in with Taylor, for example, to make sure he knows I'm proud of what he's done since an unacceptable moment four years ago. 'He's done a lot of work on educating himself, probably more than anyone at the footy club. But our whole footy club has improved off the back of that (incident). 'I'd prefer not to talk further on it because it's not something I've got involved in, other than touching base with one or two people.' Nicks wouldn't be drawn on whether the club was chasing Wanganeen-Milera, who could be in line for a seven-figure payday for his new deal. 'We don't talk about players from other footy clubs,' Nicks said. 'It's something we've shown a lot of respect around over the years. It's just not a space we go into.' But Nicks conceded talk around contracts was hard to avoid and 'part of the deal' for players. Police chase anonymous tip-off after ‘innocent' Melbourne woman killed
Police are hoping a nickname or alias given by an anonymous caller will be the key to arresting the men who firebombed the wrong Melbourne house, killing a woman inside. Katie Tangey, 27, died inside a family member's house in Truganina in the city's west in January. Police believe two men, filmed at the scene, targeted the wrong address but were motivated by Melbourne's ongoing illicit tobacco wars. On Thursday, police searched a house in the southeast suburb of Dandenong, did not make any arrests, but seized phones. 'We are absolutely determined to provide what closure and justice we can to the family of Katie Tangey,' arson squad Detective Inspector Chris Murray said. Police were 'getting closer' to solving the case, Inspector Murray said. 'I know Katie's family would want nothing more than to see her live out the whole life she had ahead of her, but the least we can do is make sure those responsible for this tragedy are held accountable for their actions. 'Investigators know Katie Tangey was completely innocent and had nothing to do with the illicit tobacco trade.' In April, police set up a booth in the Truganina street where Ms Tangey died in the hope of gathering information from the public. A digital composite of one of the arsonists' faces was then also released. 'Via anonymous reports to Crime Stoppers, police were provided information, including a particular call where a name has been given of a pseudonym or nickname,' police say in Thursday's statement. 'Investigators are still urging this particular caller to make further contact and provide additional information.' Ms Tangey was house sitting her brother's home on Dover St on January 16 when two men attacked the property in the early hours with a jerry can. The men were filmed leaving the scene in a dark-coloured BMW X3 or X5. Ms Tangey called triple-0 from inside the three-storey home. She could not escape and died at the scene. A golden retriever named Sunny also died. In the hours after the incident, Inspector Murray was adamant Ms Tangey was the victim of a bungled attack, where the men targeted the wrong home. Appealing for information in April, Inspector Murray called the arsonists 'low lives'. 'There are people out there who are talking and who are providing information,' he said at the time.
