The Andaman Sea experienced a second earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale today, with the tremors occurring at 11.22 am, just an hour after the first quake at 10
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), this earthquake also occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The social media post on CNS reads, "EQ of M: 4.6, On: 30/06/2025 11:22:23 IST, Lat: 9.45 N, Long: 93.93 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea."
Earlier today, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 hit the Andaman Sea, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at 10:09 am at a depth of 10 kilometres.
In a social media post on X, the NCS wrote, "EQ of M: 4.7, On: 30/06/2025 10:09:03 IST, Lat: 9.43 N, Long: 94.17 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea."
On June 25, an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the Andaman Sea, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
As per the NCS, the quake occurred at 01:43 am at a depth of 20 km, with its epicentre located at 9.46°N latitude and 94.07°E longitude.
"EQ of M: 4.2, On: 25/06/2025 01:43:50 IST, Lat: 9.46 N, Long: 94.07 E, Depth: 20 Km, Location: Andaman Sea," National Centre for Seismology wrote on X.
The Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands fall within Seismic Zone V, the highest risk zone in India. The Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt, which extends up to the Andaman-Nicobar island region, is known to be one of the world's seismically active belts, according to the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Earthquake alert: Minor quake jolts northern California; no immediate damage reported
Earthquake alert: Minor quake jolts northern California A minor earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Northern California on Monday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor was recorded at 6.37 pm Pacific Time and was centered approximately 16 miles west of Los Banos and 30 miles southeast of San Jose. The quake was relatively shallow and minor, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries. While it was felt mildly across some nearby areas, the tremor was not severe enough to cause structural concerns. The USGS also indicated that updates to the shake-severity map may follow as scientists process additional field data. Although Monday's quake was minor, experts caution that aftershocks — smaller tremors that follow the main event — may still occur in the same region. According to the USGS, these aftershocks are often subtle fault-line adjustments and can persist for days, weeks, or even years. In rare cases, they may rival or exceed the original quake in strength, posing further risks to already impacted areas. No significant aftershocks have been reported yet. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.

Earthquake today: Three successive quakes jolt Andaman Sea, latest seismic activity measures 4.7 magnitude
Earthquake today: Three successive quakes jolted Andaman Sea on Monday. The latest earthquake measuring 4.7 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Andaman Sea on June 30, according to National Center for Seismology (NCS). As per the report, the third seismic activity was felt in the region at 12:06 AM. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km. 'EQ of M: 4.7, On: 30/06/2025 12:06:25 IST, Lat: 9.60 N, Long: 93.79 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea,' the NCS said in a post on X. The first seismic activity of 4.7 magnitude was reported around 10:09 AM which was followed by two aftershocks. The second quake was reported around 11:22 AM. Notably, the second and third quakes happened within an hour. The NCS in a post on X informed that the first earthquake struck Andaman Sea on Monday at a depth of 10 km. 'EQ of M: 4.7, On: 30/06/2025 10:09:03 IST, Lat: 9.43 N, Long: 94.17 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea,' the NCS said. Tremors measuring 4.6 magnitude followed at the same 'shallow' depth and location. In a post on X, the NCS stated, "EQ of M: 4.6, On: 30/06/2025 11:22:23 IST, Lat: 9.45 N, Long: 93.93 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Andaman Sea." Shallow earthquakes are more dangerous than deeper ones as they are often followed by aftershocks. This happens because shallow earthquakes release greater energy release closer to the Earth's surface which is destructive. Hence, shallow quakes have higher potential of causing damage to structures and casualties due to stronger ground shaking.
