Two men killed, two badly injured in crash caused by deer, Kane sheriff's office says
A four-vehicle crash triggered by a deer running across the road resulted in two people being killed and two seriously injured Sunday night at Plank and Switzer roads west of Elgin, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
The accident occurred about 9:45 p.m. when 18-year-old Vance Peterson, driving a Ford F150 pickup truck westbound on Plank Road, went into oncoming traffic while unsuccessfully trying to avoid hitting the deer, a sheriff's office news release said. He collided head on with a GMC Sierra pickup pulling a trailer holding a skid steer loader.
Peterson's truck was then hit by a Dodge Ram, causing it to catch on fire, the report said.
Peterson was rescued after his pickup's driver-side window was broken out, but he received serious burns and fractures requiring him to be air-lifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, officials said.
Two passengers in the GMC — 31-year-old Erick Garcia-Porcayo and 25-year-old Rosalio Porcayo-Porcayowere — were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, identified as 22-year-old Yahir Porcayo-Porcayo, was flown by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Both Peterson and Yahir Porcayo-Porcayo are in stable condition, according to the release.
The driver of the Dodge Ram — Baldemar Rodriguez-Lopez, 30 — was not injured.

2 men charged in police pursuit, wrong-way crash on I-75
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two people accused in the police pursuit that led to a 6-car, wrong-way crash on I-75 are now facing charges. Last Thursday, a pickup truck with four occupants inside was pursued by police as it sped through Dayton highways in the wrong direction. New dashcam footage shows just how large scale that pursuit was. New video shows wrong-way driver crashing into 5 cars on I-75 Cruiser video obtained from Perry Township law enforcement shows the 50-minute pursuit that led police from the outskirts of Dayton onto US-35 and then onto I-75. The pursuit started in Perry Township, as police began pursuing a GMC Sierra truck in the early evening hours of June 5. Dash camera footage features communication with a police helicopter overhead and the cruisers on the ground during the chase. Police deployed stop sticks, but the GMC drove right over them, reportedly refusing to stop for officers. The alleged driver has been identified as 46-year-old James Collins of Dayton. The chase continued across township roads until the truck entered US-35, driving in the wrong direction against traffic. That's when law enforcement noticed an occupant in the bed of the truck. 'Hey, there's actually somebody, in the bed of the pickup truck. White male, with gray shirt and black pants.' said one officer over the dashcam footage. 'Yeah, he's trying to dump boards, use caution guys, he's trying to dump boards on you.' That man, identified as 49-year-old Thomas Downey of Dayton, was dumping items onto the road in an attempt to stop law enforcement, including planks of wood. Dashcam confirms what officers have previously reported — the chase was stopped momentarily several times, both in the name of public safety, and to clean up the mess. Once the truck made its way onto I-75, driving south in the northbound lanes, it was just minutes before a multi-vehicle crash occurred. The truck collided with five other vehicles, leaving several other people injured. Four suspects fled the GMC truck, leading police on a short foot chase before they were all arrested and transported to the hospital. Both Collins and Downey are facing three charges, including fleeing and eluding, vehicular assault and obstructing official business. Police: Suspect tracked obituaries, stole from dead St. Louis County residents
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A suspect tracked obituaries of multiple St. Louis County residents who recently died, then broke into their homes to steal jewelry, weapons and other high-priced items, police say. The suspect allegedly left his own debit card behind at one home, eventually linking him to multiple burglaries. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Brandon Welch, 33, of St. Louis, with second-degree burglary and two counts of stealing. Homicide investigation underway in north St. Louis County The burglary leading to Welch's charges occurred on May 6, 2024 in the 2600 block of Blackforest Drive in south St. Louis County. According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Welch acted with another person to steal a Lowes credit card, jewelry and a firearm from the home. Investigators say Welch left behind his own debit card at the scene, along with a card belonging to the victim of another apparent burglary. While investigating, police learned that a neighbor's surveillance camera captured a Dodge Ram at the scene for nearly four hours, which later linked Welch to the crime. After the burglary, the victim's Lowe's card was used to purchase more than $3,000 of merchandise for pickups. A driver in a Dodge Ram later arrived at the Lowe's location to retrieve items, but the store had been alerted to possible fraud and ultimately stopped the transaction. That's when Welch allegedly called Lowe's twice in an attempt to complete the pickup. Investigators then began tracking his phone activity, which revealed unusual patterns. Subscribe Now According to court documents, Welch's Gmail account showed that he search for obituaries in the St. Louis region, along with directions for at least two homes of deceased victims. Welch's Gmail account captured an IP address activity that linked his location to Black Forest Drive on the day of the burglary. Phone logs determined Welch made 15 calls to a specific phone number shortly before the Dodge Ram pulled up to the victim's home. Authorities issued a warrant for Welch's arrest on Tuesday, per Missouri court records. It's unclear if any additional suspects are facing or could face charges in this case.
