A family dog named Zeus, who is named after the father of the gods in Roman mythology, proved true to his name, surviving a close-to-death scene after an alligator dragged him from his backyard into a nearby pond.
On the night of June 2, Zeus had heard a noise from the outside and went out through the doggie door to inspect it. In an instant, an alligator came crashing through the backyard fence and got hold of Zeus, the family said.
The German shepherd was then dragged by the alligator from his backyard to a nearby pond, and his owners were quite surprised that he still survived. 'The vet told us the gator had just missed his jugular — it looked like Zeus's entire head had been in the gator's mouth.
The fact that he made it out alive is nothing short of a miracle,' the family wrote in a GoFundMe post, as reported by the New York Post.
The family had no option but to watch in horror as Zeus struggled with the alligator, as almost the entirety of Zeus's head was in the gator's mouth. Finally, Zeus managed to escape, and the alligator swam off into the pond.
After the rescue, Zeus was immediately rushed to a veterinarian hospital for emergency surgery.
