Bihar Cong seeks Guv's intervention to ensure justice to rape victim's kin

Patna, June 4 (UNI) The Bihar Congress on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan seeking his intervention to ensure justice to family members of a rape victim who died due to alleged negligence in her treatment on Sunday last.
A delegation of Congress leaders led by president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) Rajesh Ram called on Governor and handed over a memorandum to him.
A nine-year-old Dalit girl was raped and also attacked by the culprit which caused injuries on 20 spots on her body. Due to the alleged negligence and delay in treatment, she died at Patna Medical College and Hospital(PMCH) , Ram said quoting the memorandum handed over to the Governor.
The incident had taken place at Kurhni in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, he stated.
"Financial assistance as compensation should be given to the mother of the deceased besides adequate arrangements should also be made for two younger brothers of the rape victim," said the Congress leader, adding that the mother of the deceased should be given a government job depending upon her qualification.
Stringent punishment should be given those involved in the incident, he added.
"The condition of dalits in Bihar has deteriorated in Bihar under Nitish Kumar-led government", Ram said adding that all required steps should be taken to improve their lot.
"Treatment facilities in government hospitals are poor and the need of the hour is to improve them without any further delay," he said.
The Governor, on his part, assured the delegation that he would look into the matter. He would also bring it to the notice of the government, Ram stated.

Rahul seeks immediate action against culprits

Bhopal: Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the 11 years of Narendra Modi govt was full of humiliation, violence, and discrimination against Dalits. Rahul Gandhi was reacting to the death of 19-year-old Dalit youth Pankaj Prajapati in Bilahari, Chhattarpur district on Sunday. Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi said, "In Madhya Pradesh, 19-year-old Pankaj Prajapati was shot dead in public only because he, being a Dalit, demanded his share of rights. FIR was not registered, postmortem was postponed – because the guilty leader is sitting in the lap of power and the power belongs to Manuwadi and anti-Bahujan BJP." He added, "The 11 years of Modi govt was full of humiliation, violence, and discrimination against Dalits, adivasis, backward classes, and minorities. The conspiracy to institutionally make them second-class citizens and keep them away from the mainstream is continuing. The culprits should be arrested immediately and given the harshest punishment. I stand with the Prajapati family and every Bahujan of the country. This is a fight for respect, justice, and equality, and we will win this fight at all costs." State Congress president Jitu Patwari said that the Bilahari firing incident exposes the failure of law and order in MP. "This heinous crime has once again exposed the deteriorating law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh under the BJP govt," he said. TNN

Israeli Navy intercepts yacht carrying Greta Thunberg, other activists, on way to Gaza

Tel Aviv, June 9 (UNI) Israeli authorities said they have intercepted at sea the Madleen, a boat that had on board 12 international activists including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg, and was headed for the war-torn Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian aid. The other activists on board the yacht included Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, and French-Palestinian European Parliament Member Rima Hassan. All parties on board will be handed over to police for deportation upon arrival at Ashdod Port, The Times of Israel reported. The Israeli Foreign Ministry, justifying its actions, said on X that the navy had "instructed the boat to change its course due to its approach toward a restricted area." After defying the given instructions, the vessel was intercepted 3am (local time) by the Navy's Shayetet 13 commando unit and the Snapir harbour border security unit. It released video footage showing the activists being taken to Israel, and said they were unharmed. The international Freedom Flotilla Coalition, upon being boarded, said on its Telegram channel that Israeli forces boarded the aid vessel. It accused Israel of violating international law by preventing the delivery of aid, and accused the IDF of 'kidnapping' them. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz released a statement, saying he instructed the military to show the activists a video, widely known in Israel as "the gruesome video", which compiles graphic scenes from the Hamas-led deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Katz praised the military for the "swift and safe takeover of the Madleen flotilla to prevent them from breaching the blockade and reaching the shores of Gaza." Calling the vessel a 'selfie yacht', the Ministry said "While Greta and others attempted to stage a media provocation whose sole purpose was to gain publicity - and which included less than a single truckload of aid - more than 1,200 aid trucks have entered Gaza from Israel within the past two weeks. "There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip - they do not involve Instagram selfies." Israel has imposed a strict blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, when the Islamic terror group Hamas took control of the territory. The blockade was significantly tightened after Hamas' October 2023 attack and has become even stronger now, with the blockade aimed specifically to prevent any possible Iranian vessels from entering the area. Shongtong-Karcham gets 2026 deadline, HP bets big on hydro

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has set a firm Nov 2026 deadline for the completion of the long-delayed Shongtong-Karcham hydroelectric project, saying the 450-MW plant will generate Rs 1,000 crore in annual revenue and strengthen the state's green energy ambitions. Sukhu on Monday inspected the under-construction site in Kinnaur district — visiting both the power house at Karcham and the barrage site at Powari — where he met engineers and workers. He said that even though the project had dragged on for 13 years, the state's current Congress govt had fast-tracked its progress and was committed to commissioning it on schedule. "This project symbolises our focus on tapping river resources to drive economic growth," Sukhu said, adding that the state was moving actively to regain control over stalled or externally-managed hydroelectric initiatives. He claimed that the govt was assessing the total expenditure incurred on other major hydropower projects — including Dhaulasidh, Luhri, and Sunni — with plans to resume and regulate their construction under state-led terms. "Unlike the previous BJP govt, which compromised state interests, we are prioritising Himachal Pradesh's control over its energy assets," Sukhu said. The CM also announced that HP was advancing plans for a geothermal power facility at Tapri in Kinnaur and expanding its capacity in solar and green hydrogen energy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Despite being an energy-surplus state, HP still buys electricity from neighbouring states during winter for Rs 5 to 6 a unit. Sukhu said the state was ramping up solar-energy generation to offset this seasonal gap. "It has 626 MW worth of solar-power projects in various stages of development currently through the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL)," he said. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and senior district officials accompanied Sukhu during the site visit. MSID:: 121728609 413 |
