India mustn't let guard down against Pak: PVC awardee Capt Bana Singh

Hindustan Times08-05-2025

Captain Bana Singh (retd), one of the three living Param Vir Chakra winners, on Wednesday, said India must remain alert and fully prepared for Pakistan's retaliation to New Delhi's midnight precision strikes on nine terror camps inside Pakistan and PoK. 'A rogue country, which has raised and nurtured terrorists and which is bereft of any rationale thinking can retaliate and we must remain prepared,' said Capt Bana Singh. (HT File Photo)
'A rogue country, which has raised and nurtured terrorists and which is bereft of any rationale thinking can retaliate and we must remain prepared,' he said.
He said, 'India has given some reply, but it was a small response and not a big one. India tried to convey to Pakistan to stay away from orchestrating terror attacks in J&K, but it didn't refrain and compelled India to conduct precision strikes.'
Captain Bana Singh, 77, hails from Kadyal village in RS Pura sector of Jammu district.
In 1987, he had led the team that recaptured the Quaid post, a strategically important location on the Siachen Glacier, from Pakistan during Operation Rajiv. The post was thereafter named after him as Bana post.
However, the PVC recipient said war brought destruction and ruined everything. 'War is bad and when it starts, it ruins everything. India and Pakistan are poor nations. If war erupts, our economies will be severely impacted. War doesn't bring any solution and can never be a remedy to any dispute. War should not take place, but Pakistan compelled PM Modi to take action,' he said.
India's precision strike, a clear message to Pakistan: ex-DGP Vaid
Former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police SP Vaid described India's strike as 'very good news of the day'.
'Whatever people were hoping post the Pahalgam attack from the PM, tri-services did it today. Our forces have hit their terror camps especially targeting Jaish-e-Mohammad and LeT headquarters. It was a clear message to Pakistan that don't mess with us,' he said.
When asked about civilians being targeted in Poonch, the former DGP said, 'Since Pakistan does not have the guts to hit back at the Indian Army, it is targeting innocent civilians. We have hit their terror camps and no civilian population was touched.'
On Pakistan's possible retaliation, he said, 'If they want to take it to the next level, India is prepared and they will have to pay heavily.'

Vandalism at Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh attack on India's civilisational heritage: BJP

A mob attacked and vandalised the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Tagore in Bangladesh's Sirajganj district on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called for global denunciation of the incident targeting the legacy of the iconic Indian personality as he described it as a 'preplanned' attack orchestrated by Islamic groups. New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI) The BJP on Thursday condemned the interim government in Bangladesh for the vandalism at Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in that country, slamming it as an assault on the very soul of India's rich cultural and civilizational heritage. Patra cited media reports to say that Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam were behind the attack, noting that Tagore is an iconic symbol of Bengal, and Indian culture and civilisation. He also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not raising the issue, alleging that she saw infiltrators from the neighbouring Bangladesh as a vote bank and has opted to keep quiet for political reasons. 'She is driven by vote bank politics. We are driven by cultural politics,' Patra said. The interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus has not taken any action, and its conduct has not been appropriate, Patra said. He appealed to the world community to come together against it, adding that his party believes in inclusivity. 'The Bharatiya Janata Party, which stands firmly by the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' issues a global appeal that all nations that uphold the values of morality, cultural integrity, creativity, and civilizational harmony must come together in unequivocal condemnation of this heinous act,' he said. The BJP strongly feels that India's culture and civilization, which stretches beyond national boundaries, has come under attack in Bangladesh. Patra said Tagore, who is called Gurudev out of respect for his immense contribution in different fields, created many of memorable works in this ancestral home, known as Kachharibari. It is also a government museum to respect his legacy. The BJP MP noted that he not only wrote India's national anthem but also that of Bangladesh, which has seen a surge in the activities of Islamic hardlines following the deposition of Sheikh Hasina last year. "Far beyond vandalism": Uttarakhand CM Dhami condemns attack on Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh

New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condemned the incident of an attack by a violent mob at Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh and stated that the attack was 'beyond vandalism' and was a 'premeditated hate crime' and an attack on the 'civilizational spirit and cultural heritage of Bharat.' 'Shocking and Unacceptable. A violent mob in Bangladesh has desecrated the ancestral home of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the iconic Kutchery House in Shahjadpur, shattering windows, destroying property, and raising hateful slogans, all under the silent gaze of Mohammad Yunus's government. This is far beyond mere vandalism, it is a premeditated hate crime, an attack on the civilizational spirit and cultural heritage of Bharat,' the post read. Dhami further wrote that these attacks were the marginalisation of Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh, which was eroding their identity, history and legacy. He further stated that the incident demanded attention, condemnation and action. 'Tagore is a global figure, but he remains a treasured symbol of India's soul. What we are witnessing is the ongoing marginalisation of Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh, their identity, history, and legacy being systematically eroded. The international community cannot afford to remain indifferent. This is a moment that demands attention, condemnation, and action,' the post further read. Earlier in the day, BJP MP Sambit Patra called on the global community to denounce the reported vandalism. Patra stated that Rabindranath Tagore's ancient home in Bangladesh was attacked by some miscreants on Tuesday (June 10). Addressing media persons at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Patra said, 'Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house, located in Bangladesh, was attacked and damaged... His Kacharibari, built by his grandfather, has been attacked. We are getting to know that the people of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam carried out this attack. It is also coming to light that this was a pre-planned attack. For five days, it was planned that the house of Rabindranath Tagore, the foundation and pillar of our civilisation and culture of Bengal, would be attacked so that they could send a big message to the world. It was a planned attack.' 'Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality. When his house was attacked, his way of thinking was attacked; we appeal to the world community to come together against this. This is the appeal of the BJP, a party that believes in inclusiveness. We are making a global call to all countries that value morality, creativity, and culture. 'Everyone should come together to condemn what has happened today in Bangladesh,' he added. Patra further condemned the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, saying that the international monument could not be protected. (ANI)
