Killers slashed and stabbed vulnerable man before dumping him in Glasgow close
Joseph McGready was slashed and stabbed having been accused of stealing from one of his killers.
Three killers are each facing a life sentence for the brutal murder of a vulnerable man.
Amanda Welsh, 49, Conor Thomas, 29, and Laura McHugh, 32, have been convicted of a fatal attack on Joseph McGready at the latter's flat in Braid Square in Maryhill, Glasgow on September 29, 2023.
The 30 year-old was slashed and stabbed having been accused of stealing from McHugh.
The trio had denied murder during the trial at the High Court in Glasgow. Welsh and Thomas had effectively blamed McHugh while McHugh had pointed the finger at the other two. But, jurors today, June 27, returned unanimous verdicts against the trio.
They were remanded in custody and are due to learn the minimum they will spend behind bars next month.
Mr McGready had ended up in the company of the three on the day of the killing before going to McHugh's flat. The trial heard claims it was while there Mr McGeady was accused of theft.
He was set upon before he was dumped badly injured in the communal close. The killers then fled the scene. Welsh and McHugh ended up spending the night in a hotel.
Mr McGready was later found, but he tragically passed away days later in hospital. The trio were eventually held by police for the death.
McHugh told detectives of a "free for all" at her flat, but denied being responsible. She stated Welsh initially slashed Mr McGready before Thomas struck him "five or six times".

McHugh told the officers: "I shouted on Connor and he stopped. It was only a few seconds and it was over."
She recalled "a lot of blood" and assumed the victim had a number of injuries.
McHugh claimed she had been "terrified", but admitted helping lift Mr McGready from the flat and "put him in the landing". The victim was said to have pleaded: "Please stop, please stop."
In her evidence, Welsh admitted slashing Mr McGready, but denied any further attack. She claimed the man had made a comment about her boyfriend.
After she had dropped the blade, Welsh insisted she had then seen McHugh with a knife.
Following the verdicts, prosecutor Kath Harper revealed all three had criminal records. This included both Welsh and Thomas having convictions for offensive weapons.
Lord Matthews adjourned the case for reports.

Army Captain rapist has "unduly lenient" prison term increased by two years
An Army captain who raped a woman he met through a dating app has had an extra two years added on to his sentence. An army officer who raped a woman he met on a popular dating app has had an extra two years added on to his prison sentence. Scotland's most senior prosecutor Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC had appealed the the four and-a-half years given to Calum MacGregor, 30, for attacking a woman in her own home claiming that the original sentence was too lenient. Now three court appeal judges Lord Beckett, Lord Doherty and Lord Armstrong increased the prison term to six years and six months. MacGregor, a member of the Royal Engineers, pounced on his 28 year old victim in December 2021 after meeting her on a dating app. He was convicted in January this year following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh and sentenced the following month. The army officer claimed during his three day trial that any sexual contact had been consensual. An impact statement provided by the victim said she continues to suffer flashbacks and to see a psychologist following the rape on December 14, 2021. She has also been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, become afraid of the dark, and was unable to work for six months. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Laura Buchan, Deputy Crown Agent, said yesterday: 'Prosecutors have a responsibility to consider appeals based upon undue leniency in sentencing. Such appeals are rare. 'Today's decision to increase Calum MacGregor's sentence for rape provides public reassurance that the impact of sexual offences on victims will be acknowledged by those in the criminal justice system." MacGregor had contacted his victim on Hinge before meeting her in Edinburgh for dinner and then going to her address for a soft drink before the attack took place. He was found guilty of pushing the woman on to a bed, kissing her body, seizing her wrists, restraining her, repeatedly grabbing her breasts, removing her clothing and underwear, carrying out sex acts on her and raping her. The court heard that Calum McGregor was a first offender and had studied philosophy at St Andrews University where he was in the Officer Training Corps before joining the Army. He has served his country at home and abroad and had an exemplary record but would be thrown out as a result of his conviction. Before sentencing the trial judge Alison Stirling was provided with supporting references including one from a superior officer. His name was also been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely. The appeal against MacGregor's sentence was heard in Edinburgh earlier this month. The Lord Advocate then claimed that the trial judge had failed to recognise the true gravity of the offence and given undue weight to personal mitigation given on MacGregor's behalf. Yesterday in a written judgement Lord Beckett said:"In all the circumstances a sentence of imprisonment for four years and six months was unduly lenient. We impose a sentence of imprisonment for six years and six months."

Couple caught in 'sex act' on busy Glasgow to Edinburgh train
The couple were only interrupted when the train guard approached to carry out checks. A police appeal has been launched after a couple were caught in a shocking indecent act on a busy ScotRail service between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The incident happened on board the 7pm train from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley on Saturday, June 8. Shortly after departure, a woman was seen performing a sex act on a man in full view of other passengers. British Transport Police say the couple were sitting in the seats nearest the doors at the back of the train. Their behaviour was only interrupted when the train guard approached to carry out checks. The pair have since been identified, but detectives are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident unfold. The man is described as white, in his late thirties, of regular build, with a short, scruffy greying beard and facial tattoos. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie and jeans, and was carrying a black backpack. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Gunmen on the run after six shot in French city
Gunfire erupted on Friday evening in the Pissevin area of Nîmes in France. A major manhunt is underway in southern France after six people were shot in a bloodbath in a city district notorious for drug crime — with one victim left fighting for life. Gunfire erupted on Friday evening in the Pissevin area of Nîmes, as terrified residents fled for cover and told loved ones to stay indoors, reports the Mirror. Emergency services raced to the scene on Passage Avogrado where multiple people were gunned down in what police believe may be a targeted attack. All six victims were rushed to hospital, with one understood to be in a critical condition. French police have launched an investigation for attempted murder and confirmed the shooters remain at large. The Pissevin district, long known for drug gang activity, was rocked by a wave of deadly shootings — including the tragic killing of a 10-year-old boy and the execution-style murder of an 18-year-old just days apart in August 2023. Locals described the horror of hearing gunshots ring out as families were returning home from work and relaxing outside in the cooler evening temperatures. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! One said they were shocked, as the area had been 'quiet' in recent weeks — but added that trouble was 'always bubbling under the surface'. The 2023 attacks sparked national outrage. In the first, young Fayed was shot dead while sitting in a car with his uncle. Just days later, an 18-year-old was ambushed and gunned down nearby. At the time, prosecutor Cécile Gensac described the child's death as a case of being 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.
