ALLIANCE INSIGHT and More YU-GI-OH! News — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant18-05-2025

At the beginning of the month, Konami officially launched the latest core booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game: Alliance Insight . This set brings support for a number of beloved archetypes such as Eldlich, Evil Twin, Ryzeal, Maliss, Dragon Ruler, and even the TCG exclusive Mitsurugi that's making waves. It also brings the new Regenesis archetype although that seems to not be making any significant splash.
Konami was kind enough to send me a box of the set and you can watch me open it below. As I mention in the video, there's nothing that I'm personally looking for, but that doesn't mean it's a bad set (I just play Fire Kings). There's quite a bit for a variety of duelists to enjoy even if you're just an anime fan with the new cards centered around Ancient Fairy Dragon and the Duel Spirits from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds .
In addition to opening up Alliance Insight, I wanted to shed some light on some upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! products that sound cool. First, the next 60-card deck building set is Justice Hunters releasing on August 1, 2025. This brings the new trio of strategies (dragon, waifu, machine/monster) with Dracotails (Fusion-based), K9 (XYZ-based), and Yummy (Synchro-based).
I guess time will tell if any of these will actually make waves. Typically one strategy from these sets tends to be really good out the gate, one tends to become good after a wave of support, and the third is just a bunch of hopes and dreams. Which do you think will reign supreme in the TCG?

Fira X Wear and Crunchyroll Go Plus Ultra with New MY HERO ACADEMIA Collection

We absolutely love it when we can rep our favorite fandoms out in the real world. From shirts to jackets to pants, we have come a long way in what's available in the world. And as if we needed any more items in our closet, Fira X Wear and Crunchyroll announced they are dropping an epic collection inspired by My Hero Academia . Honestly, 'epic' might not even be the right word for this collection; we would have to say it's pretty 'plus ultra'. Okay, puns aside, this collection is fantastic. Jasmine James, the incredible mind behind Fira X Wear and designer of the collection, drew inspiration from the iconic sports uniforms for this first collaboration with Crunchy Roll. The collection includes a cropped hoodie, stylized utility jacket, futuristic cargo sweatpants and a fitted romper. Like other items sold on their website, the collection will range from size small up to 3XL. RELATED: Movie Review – My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission The Plus Ultra Feel Fira X Wear and Crunchy Roll were gracious enough to send us the cropped hoodie to check out for ourselves. We are beyond impressed with the quality of the piece and how well it wears. It fits right into the idea of closet cosplay without feeling or looking overly costumed. All the pieces tie together so well and will make anyone wearing them look like they walked right out of the series. But they also work great on their own. The cropped hoodie paired with jeans and a white t-shirt makes for a low-key closet cosplay. RELATED: Movie Review – My Hero Academia: Heroes' Rising Jasmine and her husband, Vincent, founded Fira X Wear during the pandemic while the two were planning a future vacation to Mexico. Vincent thought it would be fine to mix their love for cosplay with their vacation attire, and Jasmine's beach episode bathing suit designs were born. Fast forward a few years, and Fira X Wear has successfully bridged the gap between fashion and pop culture. The first Fira X Wear and Crunchyroll My Hero Academia collaboration is now live. Fans can purchase these pieces on the official website. We highly suggest picking up your favorite piece before it sells out. We don't have any news on the following two collections, but we couldn't help but ponder what they could be. Our vote goes for a collection inspired by our favorite heroes' super outfits. Which item from this collection is your favorite, and what do you want to see in the future? Dave Matranga Shares What It's Like To Bring Shōto to Life in MY HERO ACADEMIA

Samsung Signals Major New Galaxy Z Fold 7 Phone Upgrade

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will likely have an improved camera. (Photo by Future Publishing via ... More Getty Images) After debuting the Galaxy S25 Edge last month, which came with a bunch of freebies and launched a new device range, Samsung has teased its next phone release: the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is no secret that the Korean company will release the seventh generation of the Galaxy Fold and Flip lines this summer. The big question, however, is will the new Fold be an iteration on previous models, or a major redesign that includes a larger cover screen? A design change that Samsung fans have requested for years. The good news is that those prayers appear to have been answered. I am reliably told that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 does have a significantly larger cover screen, something closer to the size of a standard smartphone. Samsung has also published a teaser press release that not-so-subtly hints at a bigger display on the new foldable. 'For years, Samsung has listened to users asking for bigger screens, better cameras and new ways to connect and create. The demand is clear — an Ultra-experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor.' The press release reads. The Fold 7 isn't directly named, but the blacked out teaser image clearly shows a Galaxy Fold silhouette. Digital Trends also received a press image with the file name 'Galaxy-Z-Fold7-Z-Flip7-Pre-tease-Bartype_1920x1080.gif.' As I say, the existence of the Fold 7 isn't a surprise, but the early teaser and the heavy hint of a bigger display is. It's worth saying that the press images I received had no revealing file names. Samsung's not-so mysterious foldable phone The repeated use of the word 'Ultra' in the press releases also hints at a long rumored higher-end version of the Fold 7. Although the file name discovered by Digital Trends doesn't suggest that the Korean company will launch two separate Fold 7 units (an Ultra and a standard model), rather the Fold will have the word 'Ultra' tacked on to its name. Maybe Samsung has a secret second Fold device up its sleeve, but I doubt it. What is more likely is that Samsung is renaming the Fold to give it a marketing boost and reflect the device's new hardware credentials. Samsung implies that the new handset will have 'better cameras,' which has been a consistent problem for the Fold (and Flip) range. The Fold 6 is a $1,899 smartphone, $600 more than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the former sports worse camera performance despite being significantly more expensive. The new camera setup alongside a bigger screen answers two of the most prominent quibbles Samsung users have voiced about its foldable phones. The final mystery is the new device's battery life. We will have to see how new, more resource-intensive specifications, impact battery life on a foldable phone that was already power-hungry.

What to know about the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day

NEW YORK (AP) — The Nintendo Switch 2 finally hit store shelves on Thursday, eight years after the initial release of Japanese video-game maker Nintendo's popular video game console. Even with a hefty $450 price tag, fans around the world, from Japan to the U.S., lined up outside stores to pick up pre-orders or have a chance to buy the device. The release ends months of anticipation that included pre-order hiccups and fears that tariffs would delay the release of the Switch 2. Here's what to know about the release and where you can buy it. What is the Nintendo Switch? The Nintendo Switch's unique ability to switch from a handheld console to a traditional one helped make it a hit when it launched in 2017. The Nintendo Switch Lite, which was a handheld-only device released two years later, also became popular, especially during the pandemic. It helped usher in bestselling Nintendo games including 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,' 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' and 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons.' The Nintendo Switch 2 adds interactive chat and screenshare functions to connect gamers. It will also have a more vibrant display and a larger screen. Nintendo has sold a total of 152 million Switches, just behind its best-selling Nintendo DS console which saw 154 million units move, according to the company. But demand has dwindled for the Switch, now in its eighth year after its debut. Nintendo hopes the new console will boost its declining sales. How much is it and where do I buy it? The base Switch 2 costs $450 and a bundle with the new 'Mario Kart World' included costs $500. It can be found online and in-store at major retailers like Walmart, Target and Best Buy, as well as specialty retailers such as GameStop, but it is expected to be snapped up fast and widespread shortages are expected. What were the hiccups in the rollout? The on-again, off-again tariffs ordered by President Trump — which included goods from Japan — sparked fears Nintendo might have to delay the device. But the launch comes within the 90-day pause on most tariffs. U.S. preorders for the Switch 2 were delayed for several weeks so the company could assess the potential impact of tariffs. When they started in April, high demand sparked a chaotic pre-order process. Scores of consumers trying to pre-order ran into delays or errors. Shoppers took to social media to share long wait times and screenshots of error messages and carts that suddenly went empty. Nintendo acknowledged the 'very high demand' at the time and said it was working hard to fulfill orders, but also urged people to try to buy the device without a pre-order on June 5. What are Nintendo's expectations for the device? Nintendo said it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles for the fiscal year through March 2026. The company is hoping the device jump-starts its sagging sales. In May Nintendo reported a 43% decline in profit for the fiscal year through March but promised a turnaround.
