One of the top honors at the 11th Annual American Craft Spirits Competition has been bestowed on a Minnesota distillery.
Du Nord Social Spirits' flagship Foundation Vodka was awarded a Gold Medal and the association's Best in Class designation for vodka. Its Pronounced Apple Liquor also earned a Gold Medal in the Distilled Specialty Spirits category.
"Foundation Vodka represents everything we stand for—quality, craftsmanship, and community," says Du Nord CEO Chris Montana. "Distilled six times, it's one of the purest vodkas you can find, and to have it recognized as Best in Class is an incredible honor."
However, Du Nord, which recently opened a restaurant and cocktail room on Lake Street in Minneapolis, wasn't the only Minnesota distillery that took home medals for distilling prowess. Brother Justus Whiskey Co. grabbed three medals, including a gold for its American Single Malt Silver Whiskey. Among its other accolades was a silver for the distinctive Cold-Peated American Single Malt, which uses the distillery's in-house-developed cold peating process.
St. Paul-based King Coil Spirits also earned two medals, a silver for its Trentaerbe Herbal Liqueur and a bronze for its gin.
Each of the entrants was evaluated by a panel of expert judges who scored the drinks on their appearance, aroma, complexity, body, texture, and other attributes that contribute to making a drink a shining example of its form.
Here's a look at the bottles born in Minnesota that came back from the Arizona ceremony with a medal.

I talked to a lot of great hockey people and formed many important relationships. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to help me through this exercise. The group that we have brought together is a great mix of hockey people. Kevin has an impressive resume, an intelligent hockey mind, and has helped develop a lot of good defencemen. Brett and I met years ago and have stayed in touch, and I respect his hockey IQ. I have a long history with Scott, and we share a very strong bond. He has been in the organization for a few years and knows exactly how things work and what we need to do to be successful. Not only do I look forward to working with those guys, but I am also excited to continue my coaching partnership with Marko, Jason and the Sedins, who will still to be very involved in the coaching and teaching process." Dean joins the Canucks after three years with the Chicago Blackhawks. During his time as an assistant coach in the NHL, he has helped develop players such as Charlie McAvoy, Alex Vlasic, Torey Krug, and Derek Forbort. Dean was also behind the bench as an assistant for Team USA at the 2025 World Championship, where he helped the Americans win their first Gold Medal since 1933. Before becoming a coach, the 46-year-old played 385 NHL games, recording 56 goals and 162 points. McLean, who is from British Columbia, also spent time in the Western Hockey League, playing three and a half seasons with the Kelowna Rockets. Young is an internal hire, having been with the organization for the past three seasons. During that time, he served as the Director of Player Personnel. While Young has spent the majority of his career as a Director of Player Personnel, he did spend time behind the bench as an assistant coach at Boston University and was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
