Ramadan's atmosphere in Sharjah
Sharjah is home to over 3,000 mosques, each with intriguing architectural styles that exemplify the splendour of Islamic architecture and are embellished with elaborate patterns and nature-inspired ornamentation. Some of the most renowned mosques include King Faisal Mosque, Al Noor Mosque, Sharjah Mosque, and Al Taqwa Mosque, all of which have a large number of worshippers for Taraweeh and five daily prayers.
The feeling of peace and serenity pervades mosques and public areas, heightened by the glow of traditional Ramadan lanterns that brighten the streets, lending a distinct appeal to the city's nights during the blessed month.
Ramadan Markets in Sharjah
Sharjah's marketplaces are among the most popular tourist attractions during Ramadan, attracting both local and international visitors looking to enjoy the traditional atmosphere. Souq Al Jubail and the Central Souq are well-known for providing a varied range of products that reflect the emirate's rich cultural heritage.
During Ramadan, these markets become even more vibrant, with special events like Ramadan exhibitions featuring handcrafted and artisanal products, as well as vendors selling traditional Ramadan dishes that tourists should not miss.
Aljada celebrations
Until March 30, 2025, Aljada will offer a variety of energetic Ramadan events and entertainment, particularly at the Arada Ramadan Tent, where visitors can enjoy a magnificent Iftar and Suhoor experience that combines tradition with global flavours. The facility also provides cultural entertainment such as oud and qanun concerts, Arabic calligraphy classes, henna arts, and traditional storytelling.
Furthermore, the "Dariyah Exhibition" in the Muwailih commercial district showcases a diverse selection of local shops offering everything from cuisine, sweets, and coffee to clothing, fragrances, and more. This exhibition will continue till April 4, 2025.
Emirati cuisine during Ramadan
The UAE has long been a popular trip for foodies, especially during Ramadan, which offers a unique opportunity to experience the authentic Emirati culinary scene. Ramadan Iftar meals in Sharjah are among the most enjoyable experiences for visitors, as the traditional Emirati table highlights the country's rich cultural heritage.
One of Sharjah's most distinguishing features is the convivial dining experience that its restaurants provide during Ramadan. Visitors and residents gather in a warm, family-friendly environment to celebrate Iftar and Suhoor. In addition, the "Ramadan Productive Families Exhibition," hosted by the Muwailih Suburb Council under the Department of Suburbs Affairs in Sharjah, promotes contributions from national projects and local families making traditional cuisines and tastes. This year's exhibition will be held in Al Noaf 1 Park.
Cultural events and Ramadan festivities
Numerous Ramadan festivities are held around the emirate, including "Ramadan Nights," one of Sharjah's most significant economic and cultural events. The exhibition is an excellent place to celebrate the holy month and enjoy the unique atmosphere while participating in the various shopping activities on offer.
Sharjah's cultural calendar is also jam-packed with enriching events, including contributions from various government entities that conduct talks, workshops, and educational sessions aimed at spreading knowledge and encouraging constructive interaction.
Sharjah recently inaugurated the "Al Layyah Canal Project" in the Khalidiyah district, which now hosts the "Sharjah Ramadan Festival." This event includes dramatic and artistic performances, as well as Quranic and cultural competitions, giving guests an immersive taste of Emirati heritage at its best.
Part of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival, the "Al Layyah Ramadan Market" offers a range of activities for all family members.
Sharjah remains the ideal Ramadan destination due to its cultural richness, knowledge-driven Ramadan events, and exciting festivities, which reflect the essence of Islamic and Arab customs in the most beautiful way.
