Tech giant IBM has introduced Microsoft Practice within IBM Consultingto advance digital transformation efforts for organisations.
The move marks a new phase in the company's ongoing collaboration with Microsoft and is aimed at helping organisations manage AI, cloud, and cybersecurity transformations more effectively.
The newly formed practice is structured to bring together IBM's industry-specific expertise and Microsoft's technology portfolio.
Tools such as Copilot, Azure OpenAI, Azure Cloud, Fabric, and Sentinel will be combined to assist businesses in pursuing growth, lower costs, and build 'sustainable competitive advantage'.
IBM Consulting senior vice president and head Mohamad Ali said: 'IBM Consulting is committed to our clients' successes and we're proud to offer them the opportunity of working with an ecosystem of global industry leaders with proven track records of innovation and delivery excellence.
'Establishing a dedicated Microsoft Practice is needed to drive meaningful business outcomes for our clients and I look forward to what we will be able to achieve together.'
A workforce of more than 33,000 Microsoft-certified professionals will support this initiative across markets where IBM Consulting operates, the company said.
The team will offer businesses with access to innovation in cloud, AI, data, and security, as well as IBM's global scale and implementation capabilities, including the newly-opened IBM and Microsoft Experience Zones.
IBM's Microsoft Practice also offers end-to-end transformation capabilities, from strategy to implementation and ongoing optimisation, backed by enterprise-grade security and compliance controls.
Microsoft's technologies will also be embedded within IBM Consulting's AI-enabled delivery platform, IBM Consulting Advantage.
With Copilot integrated into this platform, clients will have access to AI-driven tools designed for specific operational needs, with a focus on maintaining security and oversight, IBM added.
The practice is expected to introduce new solutions tailored to key industries, including retail, financial services, government, supply chain, and consumer goods.

Mark Zuckerberg's supersized AI ambitions

Mark Zuckerberg wants to play a bigger role in the development of superintelligent AI — and is willing to spend billions to recover from a series of setbacks and defections that have left Meta lagging and the CEO steaming. Why it matters: Competitors aren't standing still, as made clear by recent model releases from Anthropic and OpenAI and highlighted with a Tuesday night blog post from Sam Altman that suggests "the gentle singularity" is already underway. To catch up, Zuckerberg is prepared to open up his significant wallet to hire — or acqui-hire — the talent he needs. Meta wants to recruit a team of 50 top-notch researchers to lead a new effort focused on smarter-than-human artificial intelligence, a source told Axios on Tuesday, confirming earlier reporting by Bloomberg and the New York Times. As part of that push, the company is looking to invest on the order of $15 billion to amass roughly half of Scale AI and bring its CEO, Alexandr Wang, and other key leaders into the company, The Information reported. Zoom in: Scale itself would likely continue its current work, albeit without Wang and some other top talent. Zuckerberg has also been making eye-popping offers to individual researchers, which the Times says can stretch from seven to nine figures. Between the lines: Meta is hoping to woo leading AI researchers by making the case that it has the resources and ongoing business to fund such a lofty ambition. But Scale AI is an unusual target. The company has built its business by focusing on the more manual tasks of AI — using humans to label data. However, Wang is close to Zuckerberg and seen as a rising star — a self-made billionaire and someone he hopes can convince others to join the ambitious research effort. And Meta isn't a newcomer to the field. The company has released several versions of its open-source Llama models, published extensively and inserted its Meta AI chatbot through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Yes, but: The company has reportedly struggled with performance in its most recent large models and has also seen some top researchers head for the exits, including AI research head Joelle Pineau, announced in April that she was leaving the company. The big picture: A Meta-Scale AI deal would follow a growing trend: tech giants buying parts of promising AI startups to secure key talent or intellectual property, without acquiring the full company. Last year, Microsoft struck a deal with consumer chatbot creator Inflection AI. Microsoft got the services of Inflection CEO (and DeepMind co-founder) Mustafa Suleyman as well as other colleagues and technology. Inflection's investors got an immediate return while also leaving in place a slimmed-down operation focused on sales to businesses. Google made a similar arrangement with acquiring key talent and a technology license, handing over millions to investors without buying the entire company. It's yet to be proven whether this approach will ultimately pass muster, as some regulators in the U.S. and abroad see these deals as meriting further scrutiny, similar to outright acquisitions. Zoom out: Meanwhile, the march to superintelligence continues at breakneck speed, fueled by giant investments in computing power and data centers. "We are past the event horizon; the takeoff has started," Altman wrote in his blog post Tuesday. "We have recently built systems that are smarter than people in many ways, and are able to significantly amplify the output of people using them."

The BofA Securities software research team hosted 18 public and 10 private companies at the BofA Global Technology Conference in San Francisco on June 3-5. With an ever-changing macro policy backdrop, the spending environment was the focus of this discussion. AI product cycles were another key topic discussed, with companies citing healthy pilot activity for agentic applications. Based on discussions, participating software companies endorsed a generally stable environment, although companies remained cognizant of underlying the analyst report noted that while product cycles for agentic AI are still in their early stages, they are reportedly gaining traction through initial pilot deals. Analyst Brad Sills included key takeaways from meetings with participating companies in this report. Sills said Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ:MSFT) (Buy, price forecast $515) Commercial CFO Mat McBride suggested sustained momentum in the Azure business, led by healthy cloud migration. According to the analyst, Microsoft is rapidly innovating across the enterprise stack. ServiceNow's (NYSE:NOW) (Buy, price forecast $1,085) Chief Customer Officer Chris Bedi highlighted solid execution through a tough macro environment in the tariff-impacted manufacturing vertical and DOGE-impacted Federal vertical. ServiceNow noted sustained momentum across the broad IT, customer, and employee application suites. It is expanding rapidly to multiple departments in the enterprise. In front office applications, Salesforce's (NYSE:CRM) (Buy, price forecast $350) COO and CFO, Robin Washington, reiterated pockets of weakness in tariff-impacted verticals like manufacturing and retail, though noting strength elsewhere, Sills said. According to the analyst, Salesforce is driving growth in both core and Agentforce. The analyst noted that Datadog's (NASDAQ:DDOG) (Buy, price forecast $138) CFO, David Obstler, highlighted the company's expanding product offering and its long-term growth potential for monitoring cloud workloads, which are increasing in volume and complexity due to AI. The analyst noted that Datadog's AI-native cohort is growing quickly, though volatility is inherent in the consumption model. Sills said Asana (NYSE:ASAN) (Buy, price forecast $21) noted slight incremental macro headwinds in April for its enterprise segment. According to the analyst, AI Studio could represent a powerful second-half 2026 catalyst for Asana. The analyst noted that software firms cited solid leading indicators for agentic application adoption, though these cycles remain nascent. He said data management vendors such as Microsoft noted added database activity as enterprises prepare for running agentic AI applications. DevSecOps software vendor JFrog (NASDAQ:FROG) (Buy, price forecast $48) discussed how AI-focused code is beginning to show up more this year, Sills said. The analyst pronounced JFrog's setup good heading into the second half of 2025. Application vendors Salesforce and ServiceNow cited healthy pilot activity for agentic applications, Agentforce, and Now Assist, the analyst noted. However, he said revenue targets are limited at this cycle stage. Microsoft cited hundreds of thousands of customers running Microsoft 365 Copilot, expanding deployments, Sills noted. He said that OneStream (NASDAQ:OS) (Buy, price forecast $33) highlighted its attractive AI value proposition and adoption trends in the back office with its SensibleAI Forecast offering. OneStream is an AI-powered back-office disruptor. The analyst said Asana and Freshworks (NASDAQ:FRSH) (Neutral, price forecast $18) noted healthy demand for AI Studio and Freddy AI. Freshworks' AI offerings are driving up the list across all growth levers.
