Medina woman accused of misusing donation program for kids with cancer
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Medina woman was arrested and charged after being accused of submitting fake applications to a charity that provides electronics to kids with cancer, according to the Orleans County Sheriff's Office.
Hopecam is a charitable organizations that provides young cancer patients with donated tablets, Chromebooks and other supplies.
Lynn Horn is accused of filling out false applications in order to obtain the devices from Hopecam, officials said. It is alleged that Horn used a social services worker's personal information to fill out one of the applications.
'The actions of Ms. Horn are not only a betrayal of a charitable cause, but they also take resources away from the children and families who desperately need them,' said Orleans County Sheriff Christopher Bourke.
Horn was charged with criminal impersonation and issued an appearance ticket. The investigation remains ongoing.

Man from Ghana charged after alleged blackmail of Buffalo victim
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man from Ghana faces an extortion charge after he allegedly used nude photographs of a victim in Buffalo to blackmail him, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Cross Abu Cole, 21, possessed nude photographs of the Buffalo male when he was a minor, according to a complaint made by the victim in October 2022. Cole then allegedly demanded $200 be sent to him otherwise he would send the photos to people the victim knew on Snapchat. The man also possessed a nude photo of the victim's friend, officials said. Numerous threats for money were made and nude photographs were sent out. An investigation traced the telephone number threats to Cole. He was taken into custody in Texas and was charged by criminal complaint with interstate communications with intent to extort. Cole faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. WATCH: Suspect shot at during pursuit in stolen vehicle, Dakota County Sheriff says
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — A pursuit suspect was shot at during a pursuit in a stolen vehicle Sunday afternoon. According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, a pursuit ensued in Dakota County at around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday after the sheriff's office spotted a white Honda Accord in the area of Highway 35 and Highway 110. This vehicle had been spotted by a FLOCK camera and had been involved in a prior eluding incident. A Dakota County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, which turned into a pursuit that went through South Sioux City. Officials said that they had attempted to stop the vehicle using spike strips, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Later, spike strips were deployed on the Veteran's Memorial Bridge by the South Sioux City Police Department. After hitting the patrol vehicle, the suspect then drove toward a South Sioux City police officer, who fired a shot from their gun at the suspect vehicle. The suspect made their way into Iowa where they eventually crashed into three other vehicles while trying to wedge their way through a stoplight. In total, the pursuit lasted for about 15 minutes, officials said. The suspect in the pursuit was arrested and identified as Benjamin Horn, of Winnebago, Nebraska. Officials said that the vehicle had been identified as a car that had previously been stolen out of Winnebago two days prior to the incident. Horn is currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on charges of reckless driving, not having a driver's license, improper use of lanes, and failure to provide security against liability. The release said that he also has a warrant in Nebraska for charges that including felony flight to avoid arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, willfull reckless driving, driving under suspension, and sixty-six counts of traffic violations in connection with the pursuit on the Nebraska side. Folly Beach City Council to vote on new transportation and traffic safety action plan
FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) – Officials are expected to present the Folly Beach safety action plan to city council, after a year in the making. The city has been working with consultants at Kimley-Horn since June 2024, to address growing safety concerns on the island. The transportation and traffic safety action plan highlights four main goals – encourage safer speeds, maintain the city's culture, improve communication and coordination, and serve a diverse population. 'This is the first time we've had a comprehensive plan that shows the areas we need to target on the entire island – to make the island safer,' Jenna Stephens, zoning administrator of Folly Beach, said. The engineers analyzed data from 2017-2023 and found the city averages around 85 crashes per year. According to the study, a majority of the crashes included pedestrians and bicyclists. Though most of them were non-fatal, the city plans to address this issue. Folly Beach held two public input meetings open to residents and people who visit the island regularly. Around 250 people participated, with many saying they felt uncomfortable traveling around by foot or on a bike. Transportation advocacy groups like the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) and Charleston Moves also attended. In a support letter sent to the city, Katie Zimmerman, executive director of Charleston Moves, said the organization supports the plan and two resolutions to adopt it. 'Charleston Moves has appreciated the opportunities to participate in both the development of the City's Safety Action Plan, as well as the stakeholder meetings and data collection for the Arctic Avenue Plan,' Zimmerman wrote. 'Our region is one of the deadliest in the nation for vulnerable road users, with disproportionate impacts to senior citizens and Black communities. We support your efforts towards a safe and healthy city with a goal of eliminating fatalities and severe injuries from traffic collisions.' City council will vote to approve the safety action plan and to amend a contract to scope out the Arctic Avenue project. The next steps will include applying for the federal 'Safe Streets For All' grant. 'The problems is funding – this plan allows us to qualify for some federal grants and that is the plan right now. To use the safety action plan to apply for the 'Safe Streets For All' grant and to help fund some of our Arctic Avenue infrastructure proposals,' said Stephens.
