What is the World Literacy Summit?
Via its website, the World Literacy Foundation-borne World Literacy Summit is described as a "global gathering dedicated to tackling the global literacy crisis and improving education for all." Educators, policymakers, innovators, and advocates from over 85 countries attend the event to "collaborate on impactful solutions that promote literacy and learning worldwide."
The World Literacy Summit is an Initiative of the World Literacy Foundation. This global nonprofit organization ensures every young individual can acquire the literacy and reading skills to reach their full potential at school and beyond, regardless of geographic location.
Those attendees are described as "a diverse network of individuals and organizations committed to improving global literacy rates," including literacy advocates, teachers, researchers, government officials, nonprofit leaders, and corporate executives.
Insofar as event speakers for 2025, Jelly Roll joins Little Free Library CEO Greig Metzger, Luminos Fund CEO Caitlin Baron, and Worldreader CEO Rebecca Chandler and literacy advocate Rasheedat Sadiq as headlining the festivities.
Jelly Roll's expanding national, global profile
In Jan. 2024, Jelly Roll appeared in Washington, D.C., at Capitol Hill's Dirksen Senate Office Building, testifying in a hearing during an open, hybrid-format session of the United States Senate's Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs entitled, "Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl: Public Awareness and Legislative Solutions."
Jelly Roll was introduced by committee chairman Sherrod Brown (D - Ohio) as a "two-time Grammy nominee and CMT Awards-winner who sings about and advocates for those who are facing drug addiction [by speaking] with and for people struggling with addiction across the nation."
This followed ranking member Tim Scott (R - South Carolina) noted that Jelly Roll, alongside Urban and Yoes, would "share stories and support for legislative solutions [to stem fentanyl sales and abuse]."
"Fentanyl transcends partisanship and ideology," Jelly Roll asserted.
"I am not here to defend the use of illegal drugs," continued the performer, who noted the "unique paradox of his history as a drug dealer" who was "part of the problem" and now aims "to be a part of the solution."
Five months later, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and YouTube's Global Head of Music Lyor Cohen announced that Chuck D, Grace Bowers, BRELAND, Kane Brown, Herbie Hancock, Denyce Graves, Jelly Roll, Teddy Swims, Justin Tranter, Armani White, and Lainey Wilson will serve as U.S. Global Music Ambassadors in a Department of State-YouTube partnership aimed at "(elevating) music as a diplomatic platform to promote peace and democracy in support of the United States' broader foreign policy goals."
Via a press statement, Jelly Roll stated that being able to announce his first official international tour dates made partnering with YouTube and the U.S. State Department to be a Global Music Ambassador feel "especially meaningful."

Is Doechii's Oversized Balloon Jacket Summer's Newest Style Trend?

Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty When it comes to commanding the stage, rapper and budding style icon Doechii never misses. However, her May 31 performance at the Samsung Edge in New York didn't just deliver a flawless stage performance but a flawless fit, too. The Florida-born rapper has again gone viral. This time in a statement-making ensemble that blurs the lines between high fashion and hip-hop flair. The fashion girls are talking – and taking notes. The Grammy-winning artist hit the Samsung stage as part of a new partnership with the tech brand. She wore a dramatic balloon-shaped trench coat layered over a crisp white button-down and maroon necktie. Styled by Sam Woolfe, the look was cinched just enough to reveal her tiny waist and mini length to show off her legs. She paired the funky outwear with high beige socks and sharp black stilettos. Adding to her look was makeup and hair for the 'gawds. Her makeup included a silver cut crease, flawless matte skin, and a glossy red lip. Gold hoops and wire-rimmed glasses gave her fit a soft throwback finish, and her signature face tape continues to be that girl. What we love about Doechii's balloon jacket is that it challenges the idea of what summer style is (or should look like). A departure from the typical warm-weather dressing of booty shorts, maxi dresses, and skimpy tops, the 'Anxiety' femcee's fit stood out. Her body was still bodying – and so was her style. Her jacket is also a nod to icons like Andre Leon Talley who always played with proportions by his own rules. Yes, the piece is just that good. If you're thinking about how to tap into the Doechii summer style trend, start with exaggerated outerwear in breathable fabrics. Think unexpected to expected from linen and chambray to seersucker and chiffon. Pair the outerwear with short hemlines or stackable layers that help balance the volume. Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty For those not ready to go bare-legged just yet, layer baggy silhouettes over shorts or bike sets. Add sleek heels or chunky sneakers to stand out and don't be afraid to play with accessories that contrast the drama. Doechii's summer style trend is for the girls who like to put that ish on. Her fashion era continues to evolve —and we're ready for every oversized moment. Miley Cyrus speaks out about dad Billy Ray's romance with Elizabeth Hurley

Miley Cyrus is sharing her thoughts on her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus ' new relationship and reflecting on how their own bond has evolved. In a new interview with The New York Times published Saturday, the Grammy winner spoke candidly about Billy Ray's romance with actress Elizabeth Hurley, as well as her mom Tish Cyrus' marriage to actor Dominic Purcell. "Now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too -- I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing," Miley told the outlet. "I'm being an adult about it." She continued, "At first it's hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy.' My child self has caught up." Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, who tied the knot in 1993, divorced in 2022 after nearly 30 years of marriage. They share three children -- Miley, Braison, and Noah -- and Billy Ray also adopted Tish's two older children, Brandi and Trace. Billy Ray went public with his relationship with Hurley on Easter Sunday. Their debut as a couple came just months after he finalized his divorce from his second wife, Firerose, in August 2024, according to People. In her New York Times interview, Miley also addressed longstanding speculation about her relationship with her father. When asked if they were estranged, she simply replied, "No." "I think timing is everything," she explained. "As I've gotten older, I'm respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents -- because my mom really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard. And so I think I took on some of my mom's hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain." Her comments followed a rare family photo that Billy Ray shared earlier this month, showing the family reunited to celebrate Braison's 31st birthday -- a moment that came after months of rumors about a rift between the father and daughter. Miley also directly addressed those rumors in a statement shared to her Instagram stories on May 10. "My dad and I have had our challenges over the years," she wrote at the time, per E! News. "Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I'm at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family." Billy Ray echoed those sentiments in his own Mother's Day post on Instagram, praising his daughter and the progress they've made. "I'm so proud of Miley and her guts and her courage... her wisdom and strength to bring it when our family needed it most," he wrote. "We are so close to a full healing."
