Galway fell nine points behind in Cavan and missed two penalties before staging a stunning recovery.
Joyce said: 'It was a super kick by Shane, a pressure kick by Shane.
'He gets unfair criticism half the time in Galway about stuff, but he was fantastic today.
'He's trained really well for the last couple of weeks and put in a super performance today.'

Galway looked doomed when they fell nine points behind in their All-Ireland final rematch with Kieran McGeeney's men.
Matthew Tierney and Rob Finnerty both missed penalties, but a brilliant second-half effort saw them run out 2-22 to 0-27 winners thanks to Walsh's decisive score after the buzzer.
The Connacht champions racked up 2-15 in the second half, as Walsh fired 0-9 and Rob Finnerty and John Maher both hit the net.
Armagh were already through as top dogs and Joyce was delighted to snatch third spot in the group of death and a place in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final draw tomorrow morning.

He said: 'We were fighting for our lives really. We knew we were going to go out of the Championship.
'But we took the shackles off and for some reason it took that to start playing a bit of football and we kicked 2-15 in the second half which was huge kicking.
GAA fans 'loved seeing and hearing' the late Micheal O Muircheartaigh as he features in RTE documentary Hell for Leather
'We controlled the game. At the end there we could have probably lost it. Cein D'Arcy had a kick out at the end and Paul Conroy used all his experience to win the free for Shane.
'They're hard kicks, the ones right in front of the goal, a bit of an angle, probably about three or four yards to the right of the post but a super kick.
'He was kicking well all day, Shane in fairness to him. The objective was to get out of the group, try and get out in as high a position as you can.
'But the way the last two weeks went for us, we'd happily settled for third, to win the game tonight and we did so.
'Look, we're happy to just get out of it but we'll just settle down in the morning, we'll get a recovery session tomorrow and we can go out again next week and get ready for the draw.'

Clare and Waterford shock provincial champions to reach All-Ireland Minor Hurling decider

All-Ireland MFC semi-finals: Clare 0-27 Cork 1-22; Waterford 2-21 Kilkenny 2-18 Clare completed a weekend of All-Ireland minor semi-final shocks by dumping out Munster champions Cork at Semple Stadium. On Saturday evening, Leinster champions Kilkenny fell to Waterford at Wexford Park to create a novel final pairing. In an absorbing Thurles clash, the Banner racked up 27 points despite hitting 14 wides. They were led by 0-13 from Paul Rodgers, the younger brother of senior star Mark. READ MORE Cork's goal arrived in the fifth minute through Cormac Deane, the son of Rebel stalwart Joe. The Killeagh youngster cut on to his left and blasted a low shot from the 21 to the net for a 1-1 to 0-3 lead. Leon Talty denied him a second goal as Clare soon reclaimed the lead. They were sparked by three in a row from Rodgers, who later added an exceptional sideline cut from close to the 65. All six forwards were on the board by half-time as they led, 0-15 to 1-10. Photograph: Tom O'Hanlon/Inpho The sides were level six times in the third quarter until Clare made the decisive move taking four of the next five points. Michael T Brosnan and Eoghan O'Shea left one between the sides entering stoppage time, but Rodgers found the insurance score. On Saturday, Cormac Spain's 2-6 tally helped Waterford to a first minor showpiece since 2013. Cian Byrne batted home a first-minute goal for Kilkenny, but the Déise took their first lead when Spain whipped to the net in the 18th minute. They led 1-10 to 1-7 at midway, yet Kilkenny restarted with five points on the spin. Waterford turned the game on its head with a 1-7 streak around the three-quarter mark, with Spain racing away to bury his second goal. They still held a seven-point cushion approaching injury time, but Kilkenny got it back to two with Adam Maher's goal. Jamie Shanahan's point steadied their nerves at the death.

Tyrone vs Cavan LIVE score updates from All-Ireland SFC round three clash

Tyrone and Cavan meet for the second time in the 2025 Championship and the stakes are considerably higher for this afternoon's clash at Brewster Park. It was nine weeks ago when the teams locked horns in Omagh with Tyrone claiming a seven-point victory. There have been many twists and turns in the Championship since then and the Red Hands will be wary of reading too much into that result, especially as Raymond Galligan's men bounced back to shock Mayo in Castlebar in round one. The Breffnimen suffered a heavy loss to Donegal last time out while Tyrone also lost their home fixture against Mayo after beating the Ulster champions in Ballybofey in round one. All that leaves Group One finely poised. All four teams can top the group this afternoon and progress straight through to the quarter-finals. All four teams can reach the preliminary quarter-finals with the runners up getting home advantage next weekend. However, there are various permutations that could see Tyrone, Cavan, Donegal or Mayo exit the Championship this afternoon which every team needing a result in the other game if they lose. We'll have all the latest build up and team news from Enniskillen as well as regular updates from Dr Hyde Park as Group One comes to a conclusion this afternoon. Cavan: Liam Brady; Niall Carolan, Killian Brady, Cian Reilly; Brian O'Connell, Ciaran Brady, Padraig Faulkner; Ryan Donohoe, Evan Crowe; Gerard Smith, Dara McVeety, Oisin Brady; Cormac O'Reilly, Paddy Lynch, Cian Madden. Tyrone: Niall Morgan, Cormac Quinn, Peter Teague, Niall Devlin; Michael McKernan, Rory Brennan, Kieran McGeary, Ben McDonnell, Conn Kilpatrick; Seanie O'Donnell, Mattie Donnelly, Ciaran Daly; Darren McCurry, Mark Bradley, Darragh Canavan. The GAA have confirmed that the draws for the All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-finals and the Tailteann Cup semi-finals will take place on Monday morning on RTÉ Radio 1 at 8.30am. The draws will be presided over by CCCC Chairperson Brian Carroll and Feargal McGill, GAA Director Player, Club and Games Administration. In the Sam Maguire competition, the four second-placed teams from the group stages will be drawn to play at home against the four third-placed teams, subject in the first instance to the avoidance of repeat provincial final pairings and, where possible, repeat pairings from the group stage. The last-four draw for the Tailteann Cup will be subject to the avoidance of repeat pairings from the championship. Fixture details will be finalised by the CCCC later that day, and the games will take place over the weekend of June 21 and June 22. Kerry and Dublin will have home advantage in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals while Cork and Galway will be on the road with the remainder of the teams confirmed today. Having claimed a shock round one victory over Mayo, Cavan were brought down to earth with a bang when they shipped 3-26 at home to Donegal in round two. That loss in Kingspan Breffni means that Raymond Galligan's men really need to take something from their round three meeting with Tyrone in Brewster Park. A win over the Red Hands, coupled with a win for Mayo against Donegal, would see Cavan top the group. A defeat would see them needing a favour from the Ulster champions. A draw would also see them through to the preliminary quarter-finals if the game in Dr Hyde Park produces a winner. If Donegal beat Mayo in Dr Hyde Park, they are through to the preliminary quarter-finals at least. However, they cannot top the group if Tyrone beat Cavan. If they lose to Mayo, they need the Red Hands to defeat the Breffnimen to remain in the Championship. As Donegal have the best scoring difference of the four teams, they'd also top the group in the event of two draws in round three. After suffering a seven-point home defeat to Mayo, Tyrone can top the group, secure a preliminary quarter-final berth or exit the Championship depending on their result against Cavan. A win guarantees Tyrone a place in the knockout stage and home advantage in the preliminary quarter-final while Malachy O'Rourke's men would top the group if Donegal also beat Mayo or if that game ends in a draw. If they lose to Cavan and Donegal beat Mayo or that game ends in a draw, Tyrone will be out. Mayo are out of the Championship if the bookies are correct and Tyrone and Donegal win this afternoon, but they'll top the group if they beat Donegal and Tyrone beat Cavan. Ulster SFC quarter-final: Tyrone 1-24 Cavan 0-20 Tyrone claimed a hard-fought seven-point victory over Cavan in Omagh to set up an Ulster SFC semi-final showdown with rivals and All-Ireland champions Armagh. The Red Hands were cruising in the early stages of the second half having led by 10 points at the break. Yet, a rally of five two-pointers from Cavan hinted at another remarkable comeback from the Breffnimen after they brought Tyrone to extra-time at the same stage last season. Conn Kilpatrick's sublime goal ended any prospect of Cavan claiming a first Championship victory over Tyrone since 1983. Tyrone suffered a double blow prior to throw-in when news filtered through that Mattie Donnelly was only fit for a place among the substitutes while Darragh Canavan was ruled out altogether with a hamstring injury which means he is in a race to fit in time for the Ulster semi-final. Cavan also lost Cormac O'Reilly and James Smith from their starting 15 and the Breffnimen really struggled on their own kickouts as Tyrone dominated the first half following a very scrappy opening 10 minutes. Cathal McShane, drafted in for Donnelly, looked sharp in attack and scored two points in the first half as did former Footballer of the Year Kieran McGeary. Sean McEvoy, Dara McVeety and Oisin McKernan landed early scores for Cavan, but as the skies opened above O'Neills Healy Park, Tyrone hit 0-6 without reply to take a stranglehold on the game with Aodhan Donaghy and Brian Kennedy impressing in the middle third. Darren McCurry registered 0-3 in the first half and was even more prolific in the second, scoring 0-4. Early scores from Ruairi Canavan (free) and Michael McKernan saw the hosts move 12 clear. With little else going for them, Cavan took on some shots from distance and they were rewarded handsomely with Dara McVeety scoring three two-pointers with Oisin Kiernan also raising an orange flag. McCurry and Kennedy were on target for Tyrone, but Ryan O'Neill's point cut Tyrone's lead down to six with 12 minutes remaining. McCurry's seventh point eased the pressure on O'Rourke's men somewhat before his Edendork clubmate Kilpatrick burst through the heart of the Cavan defence to create a rare goal-scoring opportunity for the Red Hands. With no Cavan player advancing to meet him, Kilpatrick pulled the trigger from 13 metres out and tucked his shot low into the bottom right-hand side of Gary O'Rourke's goal. Cavan will look to have key forward Paddy Lynch back in full training in the coming weeks while Tyrone will be hoping midfielder Brian Kennedy will recover from a groin injury picked up in the closing stages as they look ahead to a crunch meeting with Armagh on Saturday, April 26 with Clones the likely venue for the provincial semi-final. Tyrone scorers: Darren McCurry 0-7 (0-2fs), Ruairi Canavan 0-4 (0-4fs), Conn Kilpatrick 1-0, Kieran McGeary 0-3, Cathal McShane 0-2, Niall Moran 0-1 (0-1 45), Peter Teague 0-1, Niall Devlin 0-1, Brian Kennedy 0-1, Aodhan Donaghy 0-1, Ciaran Daly 0-1, Peter Harte 0-1, Michael McKernan 0-1. Cavan scorers: Dara McVeety 0-8 (2tps, 1tpf, 0-1f), Sean McEvoy 0-4 (0-3fs), Oisin Kernan 0-3 (1tp), Cian Madden 0-3 (1tpf), Ryan O'Neill 0-1, Ryan Donohoe 0-1.
