The Indiana Pacers' journey to the 2025 NBA Finals marks a massive milestone because it is the first time they have reached that stage in 25 years. Led by All-NBA guard Tyrese Haliburton and fortified by elite players like Pascal Siakam, the current Pacers have revitalized their legacy, reminiscent of the formidable 2000 team under Reggie Miller's leadership.

The 2000 squad, with its defensive prowess and veteran acumen, set a high standard that the 2025 team aspires to match. Reggie Miller's squad made the Finals and were matched up against the goliath Los Angeles Lakers led by Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, but they were certainly a talented roster with plenty of hard-nosed players.
Similarly to the 2000 Pacers, the 2025 Pacers are going up against another goliath: the Oklahoma City Thunder, which finished with a 68-14 record, led by league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. If we are to compare the 2025 Indiana Pacers against the 2000 squad, who would win in a seven-game series? Let's find out.
2025 Indiana Pacers Starting Lineup: Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith, Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner
2000 Indiana Pacers Starting Lineup: Mark Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Jalen Rose, Dale Davis, Rik Smith
Tyrese Haliburton vs. Mark Jackson
Tyrese Haliburton has redefined the modern point guard role with his exceptional playmaking and efficiency. In the 2024-25 season, he averaged 18.6 points and 9.2 assists per game, ranking third in the league for assists. His ability to orchestrate the offense with quick decision-making and minimal turnovers has been pivotal in the Pacers' success.

Mark Jackson, the floor general of the 2000 Pacers, was known for his leadership and court vision. He averaged 9.6 points and 8.0 assists per game during his career. While Jackson's traditional style was effective in his era, Haliburton's dynamic and efficient play would likely give him the edge in a head-to-head matchup.
Andrew Nembhard vs. Reggie Miller
Andrew Nembhard has emerged as a reliable guard for the 2025 Pacers, contributing 10.0 points and 5.0 assists per game. His defensive prowess and ability to facilitate the offense make him a valuable asset.
Reggie Miller, a Hall of Famer and the face of the 2000 Pacers, was a prolific scorer, averaging 18.1 points per game in the 1999-2000 season and elevating to 24.0 points per game in the playoffs. Miller's clutch shooting and experience would present a significant challenge for Nembhard.
Aaron Nesmith vs. Jalen Rose
Aaron Nesmith has been a consistent contributor for the 2025 Pacers, averaging 12.0 points and shooting an impressive 50.7% from the field. His versatility on both ends of the court adds depth to the team's lineup.

Jalen Rose was a key player for the 2000 Pacers, averaging 20.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game during the playoffs. His scoring ability and playmaking skills would likely give him the upper hand in this matchup.
Pascal Siakam vs. Dale Davis
Pascal Siakam has brought a dynamic presence to the 2025 Pacers, averaging 20.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. His ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions adds a modern twist to the power forward role.
Dale Davis was a defensive anchor for the 2000 Pacers, known for his rebounding and physicality, as he posted 8.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in the playoffs. While Davis provided toughness in the paint, Siakam's versatility and offensive skill set would likely give him the advantage in this matchup.
Myles Turner vs. Rik Smits
Myles Turner has been a consistent force for the 2025 Pacers, averaging 15.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. His shot-blocking ability and perimeter shooting make him a modern-day center.

Rik Smits, the "Dunking Dutchman," was a reliable scorer for the 2000 Pacers, providing a strong post presence with an average of 12.9 points per game. While Smits excelled in his era, Turner's defensive prowess and versatility would likely give him the edge in today's game.
2025 Indiana Pacers Advantages
The 2025 Pacers boast a versatile and dynamic roster, with players like Haliburton and Siakam leading the charge. Their ability to adapt to various playstyles and execute in high-pressure situations has been a hallmark of their success.
Additionally, the team's emphasis on ball movement and spacing creates opportunities for multiple players to contribute offensively. This collective approach makes them a formidable opponent in any series, and that includes the talented 2000 Pacers led by hard-nosed defenders and clutch players.
2000 Indiana Pacers Advantages
The 2000 Pacers were a seasoned and cohesive unit, with veteran leadership from players like Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson. Their experience and understanding of the game allowed them to execute effectively in critical moments.

Their physicality and defensive intensity set the tone for their play, often wearing down opponents over the course of a series. This grit and determination were key factors in their deep playoff run, and they will have to tap into those attributes to take out Tyrese Haliburton and company.
Who Wins A Best-Of-7 Series?
The 2025 Pacers set the tone early with their high-paced offense, capitalizing on transition opportunities and three-point shooting. Tyrese Haliburton orchestrated the attack with 24 points and 11 assists, while Pascal Siakam contributed 22 points and 8 rebounds. Despite Reggie Miller's 26-point effort for the 2000 squad, the modern Pacers' versatility and depth proved decisive in the series opener.
Adjusting their strategy, the 2000 Pacers emphasized half-court sets and physical defense in Game 2. Mark Jackson controlled the tempo, dishing out 9 assists, while Jalen Rose added 20 points. The 2025 team struggled with the slowed pace, and despite Haliburton's 18 points and 10 assists, they couldn't overcome the veteran savvy of the 2000 squad, who evened the series.

Back on their home court in Game 3, the 2025 Pacers exploited mismatches with Siakam's agility against Dale Davis, leading to 25 points and 9 rebounds. Haliburton continued his stellar play with 22 points and 12 assists. The 2000 team's defense couldn't contain the modern Pacers' spacing and ball movement, giving the 2025 team a 2-1 series lead.
In Game 4, the 2025 squad showcased their offensive prowess, with Haliburton recording a triple-double: 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Siakam and Myles Turner combined for 40 points, stretching the floor and creating driving lanes. Reggie Miller's 30 points kept the 2000 team competitive, but the modern Pacers' depth secured a 3-1 series advantage.
Facing elimination in Game 5, the 2000 Pacers leaned on their experience and defense. Dale Davis dominated the paint with 14 rebounds, and Jalen Rose contributed 24 points. The 2025 team's offense faltered under pressure, and despite Haliburton's 19 points and 9 assists, the series extended to a sixth game.
Determined to close out the series in Game 6, the 2025 Pacers executed a balanced attack. Haliburton led with 26 points and 13 assists, while Siakam added 23 points and 7 rebounds. The 2000 team's efforts, highlighted by Miller's 28 points, fell short as the modern Pacers clinched the series 4-2.

Averaging 21.5 points, 11.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game, Haliburton's leadership and playmaking were instrumental in the 2025 Pacers' victory, earning him the Finals MVP honors.

Fever balance scoring, rout Sky 79-52 without Caitlin Clark, coach Stephanie White

CHICAGO — Austin Kelly first met Stephanie White over a decade ago, when Kelly's future wife, Karima Christmas-Kelly, began playing for the Indiana Fever in 2012. Kelly would hang around the team and sometimes sit in on Fever practices. Occasionally, he would even take part in them as a practice player. Advertisement A lot has changed with the Fever since. And yet, for all that's different around the franchise — especially in the last two seasons as Indiana has evolved into the WNBA's most popular team — plenty has stayed the same. On Saturday night against the Chicago Sky, Kelly, an Indiana assistant coach, slid into the lead chair, serving as the Fever's acting head coach with White absent due to personal reasons. Christmas-Kelly, a fellow assistant on the Fever, was a few seats down on the bench. So too was another key member of Indiana's 2012 title-winning roster, Briann January, who, like Kelly, is also in her first season as a Fever assistant. 'We all got history,' Kelly said. Even without White, the trio has helped the Fever climb back to .500, as Indiana defeated Chicago, 79-52, in the first WNBA game played at the United Center. White was not Indiana's only notable absence, however. The Fever are now 2-2 in games without star guard Caitlin Clark, who could return as soon as Tuesday as she continues rehabbing her left quad strain. Aari McDonald pokes it free and cashes in with her third 3-pointer 🔥 — Indiana Fever (@IndianaFever) June 8, 2025 Despite the absences of Clark and White, Indiana's offense was efficient as the ball pinballed from player to player with the Fever recording 14 assists on its first 20 made field goals. They finished with 19 assists on 27 baskets, shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from 3-point range. Four players finished in double figures for Indiana as its balanced cast of role players stepped up in the absence of its coach and star guard. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 17 points, Natasha Howard scored 13 and grabbed five rebounds, while Aari McDonald and Aliyah Boston scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Advertisement 'It's special,' Kelly said after the win. 'It's something I'll never forget. They did a hell of a job for 40 minutes of executing the game plan. And I thought when we had lulls, the communication out there was really good, they picked each other up when it was needed.' Chicago's production paled in comparison. The Sky had only six assists on 11 made field goals at halftime, as they trailed 41-28 at the break. Indiana's lead grew to 17 midway through the third quarter as Mitchell darted to the rim for another layup and two of her team-high 17 points. It ballooned to 29 after three quarters, and 30 early in the fourth quarter before Chicago chipped away. Saturday night was supposed to be a celebration inside United Center, as the Sky were playing in the home of the NBA's Chicago Bulls for the first time in franchise history in front of what was expected to be a Sky record crowd. But the tenor of the night, and perhaps Chicago's season, changed abruptly as veteran Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot suffered a knee injury at the 5:29 minute mark of the first quarter on a drive to the basket. Vandersloot, the franchise's all-time leading scorer who returned to Chicago this past offseason after two seasons with the New York Liberty, was carried off the floor, unable to put any weight on her right leg and did not return. The Sky's offense appeared to not recover either. "The sky is falling in Chicago!" DeWanna Bonner knocks down the three to put us up 24 in the third. — Indiana Fever (@IndianaFever) June 8, 2025 Kelly and White have worked together for a few seasons, first from 2019-2021, when Kelly was White's director of recruiting when she was the head coach at Vanderbilt. He was later on White's coaching staff during White's two seasons with the Connecticut Sun. 'We're prepared for this moment. I've worked for Steph a handful of years, and she wants to prepare all of her assistants to be head coaches,' Kelly said. 'And so she puts a lot on our plate, and she allows us to grow and be our own head coach in our areas.' Advertisement Kelly plays a critical role in Indiana's offensive success. Heading into Saturday's matchup, Indiana was No. 4 in offensive rating, even with its star guard missing the last four games. He has learned plenty from White and former Fever coach/general manager Lin Dunn. 'Keep it simple,' he said. 'Keeping it simple so your players are on the same page,' Everyone was aligned for the Fever on Saturday night. And now, as Indiana prepares for the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, with Clark and White's statuses both uncertain, the task will remain the same. (Photo of Natasha Howard: Daniel Bartel / Getty Images)

Schefter Offers Gruesome Bills Prediction on James Cook

Schefter Offers Gruesome Bills Prediction on James Cook originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The business side of the NFL is heading the Buffalo Bills' offseason, with running back James Cook seeking a new contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. Advertisement But there's a big problem. The Bills, through re-signing other stars this offseason, despite Cook stating first he wanted a new deal, having only $1.6 million in cap space per Over The Cap. James wasn't at OTAs, which is, of course, voluntary, but there have been little breadcrumbs laid out by Cook, seemingly voicing his discontent at the lack of movement on a new deal. Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is discussing it all in his podcast, offering a rather grim view of the situation between Buffalo and Cook. 'It bears watching because you've got a guy who's unhappy with this contractual situation, who has basically disconnected himself from the organization, the city, put his house up for sale,' Schefter said. 'I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon, and again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there by then, does James Cook show up for training camp? Does he risk the penalties if he doesn't show up?" Buffalo Bills running back James Cook.© Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images That doesn't sound promising at all. Advertisement Buffalo's mandatory mini-camp will take place this week, and that will also serve as a test of Cook's mental state regarding his contract. Seen as one of the key offensive pieces for coordinator Joe Brady, this has the potential to get rather ugly the longer it goes without something being done. But Buffalo, barring some serious salary cap gymnastics, won't be able to get a deal done with the two-time Pro Bowler, and where that leaves Cook and the offense is unknown. And that isn't a good spot to be for a franchise aiming for Super Bowl glory. Caleb Durbin hits a walk-off homer to give the Brewers 4-3 victory over the Padres

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Caleb Durbin hit a walk-off homer leading off the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rebounded after squandering a late lead to beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Saturday night. After a two-run, two-out double by Luis Arraez tied it in the top of the ninth, Durbin ended it by sending the first pitch from David Morgan (0-1) over the wall in left-center field. It was the rookie third baseman's second career homer — and first since April 21. Milwaukee's Trevor Megill (1-2) picked up the victory after blowing a save opportunity in the ninth. Elias Díaz hit a one-out single, Xander Bogaerts drew a two-out walk and both runners advanced on a double steal. Arraez tied it by connecting on a 3-2 pitch and hitting a double into the left-field corner. Milwaukee had taken the lead with two runs in the eighth. Rhys Hoskins' bases-loaded sacrifice fly brought home Christian Yelich, then Isaac Collins singled home William Contreras. The Brewers tied it at 1 in the seventh when Jake Bauers' sacrifice fly brought home Collins with an unearned run. San Diego opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Jackson Merrill hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a Jose Iglesias walk and came home on a two-out single to left from Elias Díaz. Padres starter Stephen Kolek pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings. Milwaukee's José Quintana allowed one run in five innings. Key moment After Arraez tied it with his two-out double in the ninth, he stole third as the Padres threatened to take the lead. Megill regrouped and got out of the inning by retiring Manny Machado on a grounder to shortstop Andruw Monasterio. Key stat After going scoreless in the first 15 innings of this series, the Brewers scored four runs over the last three innings Saturday. Up next Ryan Bergert (1-0, 2.00 ERA) was set to start for San Diego on Sunday against Freddy Peralta (5-4, 2.92) in the series finale. ___ AP MLB:
