Domestic carrier IndiGo on Tuesday said it is set to enhance its international capacity to Central Asia with the launch of direct flights to three key destinations -- Almaty (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Tbilisi (Georgia).
The airline said it will commence operations from
Mumbai to Almaty
July 1, followed by flights to Tashkent from August 1, and to Tbilisi from August 2.
IndiGo had launched flights to these cities from Delhi in 2023, and this move marks another step in the airline's commitment to expanding its international footprint and meeting the rising demand for international travel, the airline said.
IndiGo will operate four weekly flights to both Tashkent and Almaty, and three weekly flights to Tbilisi, significantly enhancing connectivity between India and the growing markets of Central Asia, it said, adding the new routes are set to boost tourism, trade, and people-to-people ties, while offering customers more travel options across the region.
"Building on the success of our Delhi-Central Asia routes, we are commencing direct flights to Almaty, Tashkent and Tbilisi from Mumbai, reinforcing our commitment to connecting India to the world.

SAD-BJP, Cong govts left no stone unturned to end industry: Cheema

Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema wooed industrialists and business community in poll-bound Ludhiana Wednesday, and said that 'previous Congress and SAD-BJP governments' left no stone unturned to finish off industry in Punjab.' Addressing a press conference, Cheema said that the Punjab government's implementation of the single-window system for industrial approvals would be a 'game-changer that would lead to an industrial revolution in the state'. 'The previous Congress and SAD-BJP governments left no stone unturned to finish off industry in Punjab but as soon as AAP came to power, we are correcting all previous blunders done by them. Punjab will again be the industrial hub of the country,' said Cheema. He elaborated on all 12 aspects of the newly implemented single-window system terming it as 'historic decision'. Cheema pointed out that many industrialists were interested in Punjab but were deterred by bureaucratic hurdles. While some demands were addressed over the past three years, the single-window system now eliminates all such obstacles. 'No one will face difficulties in setting up industries in Punjab anymore,' he said. What is Rupani's connection with Punjab: Kataruchak AAP senior leader and cabinet minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, while responding to the Opposition's allegations of the AAP of being controlled from Delhi, said that all national parties have a centralized structure. Kataruchak, while addresing a press conference in Ludhiana, highlighted the 'hypocrisy of Congress and BJP leaders', said that Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring doesn't even have a say in deciding the party's star campaigners for the Ludhiana West by-election and BJP Punjab leadership often priorities appeasing their 'Modi Darbar' over Punjab's rights and pride. Kataruchak launched a scathing attack on the BJP's Punjab model, saying it is being dictated by outsiders, questioning the relevance of appointing Gujarat's Vijay Rupani to oversee Punjab BJP affairs. 'What connection does Vijay Rupani have with Punjab's culture, history, or people?' Kataruchak asked, adding that the BJP's Punjab strategy reflects a blatant disregard for the state's identity and aspirations. Kataruchak compared BJP's treatment of Punjab to the oppressive rule of the Mughals. He alleged that BJP's Delhi-based leadership views Punjab merely as a resource to exploit, without any genuine interest in its development or the welfare of its people, but still BJP Punjab leaders stand with their party instead of Punjab.

Valley Makes Mayday Call as Tourism Tanks

HighlightsAirlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India have requested the Indian government to waive user development and aviation security fees at Srinagar airport for one year to attract tourists back to Jammu and Kashmir after a recent terrorist attack. The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam has severely impacted tourism, with daily passenger arrivals at Srinagar airport dropping to 4,061, nearly half of the pre-attack numbers, and airlines reducing flights from 92 to around 50 daily. Hoteliers in Kashmir are experiencing a significant decline in business, with occupancy rates close to zero and discounts of 30-50% being offered on accommodations, prompting requests for financial assistance from the Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Association. Airlines and the hospitality industry have asked the government for incentives to revive tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, which has come to a standstill after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India have asked the government to waive the user development and aviation security fees at the Srinagar airport for a year so that they could offer cheaper tickets to passengers travelling to Kashmir. Currently the airport charges a user development fee of ₹1,050 and aviation security fee of ₹200 per traveller. These are included in air ticket prices. 'After the Pahalgam incident, tourists are terrified, and no one is travelling to the Kashmir region. There is no demand for air travel to and from Kashmir and hotels are empty there,' the Federation of Indian Airlines wrote to the government last week. 'Apart from security, financial measures are important to rebuild traffic,' the airline lobby group said in a letter that ET has seen. The targeted attacks on tourists in Pahalgam took place at a time when Jammu and Kashmir was witnessing a tourism boom. The number of visitors was at a 15-year high, and the Union Territory's own revenue generation had started showing signs of improvement. On Monday, 4,061 passengers arrived at the airport, almost half of what the airport handled a day before the attack. Following the terrorist attack, India did retaliatory strikes in Pakistan during which multiple airports near the border, including Srinagar, were shut down. Airlines have also reduced flights and are operating around 50 daily flights to Srinagar compared with 92 they operated before the attack. Hotels in Kashmir are currently offering discounts of 30-50% which was never the case, said Mushtaq Reshi, president of the domestic tour operators ' association in Kashmir and managing director of Essence Holidays. On a property such as Treebo Vitasta Villa in Srinagar is available for ₹6,839 a night, down from ₹16,886 before the terror strike. Mushtaq Ahmed Chaya, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Association and chairman and founder of the Mushtaq Group of Hotels, said his association, during a recent meeting with J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah, has sought support for hoteliers in terms of interest waivers on loans for at least six months. 'We have also requested for relief on electricity bills and other expenses. The business is badly hit and occupancies are almost zero,' he added.
