DRIVEN CHOICE I'm a used car expert, and this is the 'budget-friendly' and 'highly capable' motor I'll be buying this spring
I'm a used car expert (with a young family), and with my cash, I'm buying this particular motor this spring.
It's a budget-friendly and highly capable compact SUV. It looks good, drives well and is available at an incredibly attractive price.

The MG ZS is my choice of used car this year
Credit: MG
It is, of course, the MG ZS.
Children and expensive cars don't mix well. SUVs are great for carrying around kids, bikes, and all the other stuff you need, but they're expensive.
Sure, the Nissan Qashquai or VW T-Cross look great, but fill them with sand, half-eaten snacks and a boot full of bikes, and you'll soon see your pride and joy turned into junk. The answer? The petrol-engined MG ZS.
You can pick up a nearly new MG ZS for just over £10k on Sun Motors. That's amazing value for this family-friendly motor.

This 2025 MG ZS SE EV is one of many available on Sun Motors for under 18K
Model: MG ZS
Why so cheap? The average MG ZS suffers from 67% depreciation in its first three years, says The Money Calculator. That's bad news for the original buyer but good news for bargain hunters.
Learn why you should seriously consider the MG ZS as your next car.
Benefits of the MG ZS
The MG ZS is cheap if you're buying used. When buying a family car, you want something that's cheap to buy, insure and run. The MG ZS ticks all the boxes.
It's not the most refined motor and the future resale value is likely to be low, but for a growing family that uses (and abuses) their cars, it's an ideal choice.
You can drive with confidence as the MG offers a seven-year, 80,000-mile warranty on its cars. That's similar to market leader Kia, but at about half the price of the Kona or Sportage.
There's more in-car entertainment and driving support than on a 3-year-old Dacia Duster, and for our money, it's more fun to drive too.
Who would the chosen car suit?
The MG ZS is a compact SUV that's ideally suited for use as a family car.
It's not a capable off-roader and isn't a 4x4. (If you want one of those, get a 4x4 Dacia Duster.)
It's a budget motor that should last a long time, and not cost the earth to run.
Even better, as we've explained, the first owner has taken the hit, so you should be able to get a great deal on a used MG ZS.

Buying the MG ZS new vs used
Buying any MG new is, at the moment, at least, a bad idea. The original MG brand was a British classic.
Today, the Chinese-owned modern MG brand is fighting for market space with UK drivers not yet convinced to buy in massive numbers.
As we've said, new MG's lose a massive 67% of their value in the first few years. That means you're getting a lot of car for not a lot of cash.
When you buy a used MG ZS, you'll have the pick of the market (as you'll see in our choice of the best MG ZS models for sale today below).
Prices for used MGs are highly attractive and competition is low, so you could strike a good deal. With all used cars, it's better to go for a low-mileage car with a full-service history.
Driving the MG ZS
The MG ZS isn't the most refined SUV, but we like the big grill and bold MG badge.
It's a standard shape with an elevated driving position that makes every SUV driver feel like the king or queen of the road (and drive like it, too).
It's not a small car and it can be a challenge to park sometimes, especially if you're dealing with a backseat rammed with screaming kids, but it was your choice to have them, so you'll have to deal with it.

This 2025 MG ZS 1.5 SE 5dr is one of many available on Sun Motors for under 20K, coming in at £18,495 with just 5 miles on the clock
Model: MG ZS
While cheaper to buy than the Duster, it feels classier with a 12.3-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth connection (enabling Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), and built-in sat nav adding to the experience.
Like most modern SUVs, it feels light to handle. Acceleration from the older 1.5-litre or more recent 1.0 litre petrol engine is nothing special, but that's not your major concern when driving with kids.
Safety, on the other hand, is, with the older MG ZS getting a four-star NCAP rating.
Despite the low price, the MG doesn't feel – or drive – like a cheap car. That's why it's our pick as a superb spring bargain.

Model: MG ZS SUV 1.5 VTi-TECH
This beautiful red MG ZS SUV 1.5 VTi-TECH is available for just £6,499 – or a miniscule £133 per month (with a PCP agreement).
It comes in the top-tier, Exclusive trim, which includes 360-degree parking cameras, heated front seats and blind-spot monitoring.
This low-mileage model looks in great condition, with fantastic bodywork and a fresh interior.
Nearly new MG ZS
6
Model: MG ZS 1.0T GDi Exclusive
This MG ZS 1.0T GDi Exclusive is less than a year old and can be yours for a few Happy Meals (and fruit bags) under £16,500.
Again, we've selected the Exclusive trim because we think it's worth the extra. You'll find the 1.0-litre engine more economical than the larger 1.5-litre engine on older models.
The manual is, for our money, nicer to drive than the automatic (although that's personal preference).
You can find cars with fancier colours, but classic white works. It also keeps the price down.
Eco-friendly MG ZS
6
Model: MG ZS 115kW Trophy Connect EV Long-Range
We've not been carried away with the green revolution just yet, but this eco-friendly MG ZS 115kW Trophy Connect EV could change our minds.
It's a standard modern MG ZS shape with an aggressive grill design (with the flap for the charger). Talking of charging, you'll get 273 miles out of a full fill-up.
The Trophy trim features some lovely extras, including a panoramic sky roof, leather-style seats (not real leather, so eco-warriors can relax), roof rails and heartwarming heated front seats.
It's cheaper than other like-for-like EV SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai e-Power.

Kia's Sales Soar: Drivers Can't Get Enough of These 3 Models

Kia sales stay on a winning streak Most automakers don't release monthly sales results, but Kia, a longstanding exception alongside its sister company, Hyundai, has posted promising delivery numbers for May. Last month, Kia sold 269,148 units, up 1.7% year-over-year. Outside of Korea, Kia moved 223,817 units, a 2.6% annual increase. Kia SUVs such as the Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento stood out in May, selling 48,091, 26,017, and 21,889 units, respectively, while combined sales of the K4 and K3 outside of Korea totaled 17,641 examples. One sedan, Kia's K5, has also been making a splash with a 256% year-over-year increase in May. Kia padded its sales by launching its EV3 electric SUV, which won World Car of the Year at the 2025 World Car Awards, alongside the EV4 electric sedan and the Tasman pickup. However, Kia's domestic sales experienced a 2.4% year-over-year decrease. The Sorento was the biggest hit in Korea during May, selling 7,734 units, followed by the Carnival MPV at 6,651 units and the Sportage at 5,295 units. Overall, this year held Kia's best Q1 numbers in history. 2025 Kia Sorento — Source: Kia In 2024, Kia sold over 780,000 units in the U.S.—the company's all-time high, Tork reports. The automaker's strong 2024 performance also marked the seventh consecutive year that it experienced retail sales growth. Increased quality, new models, and evolving brand perception are driving Kia's global sales success, but Kia's flagship all-electric model, the EV9, sold just 37 U.S. examples in May, representing a 98.3% year-over-year decline. Additionally, sales of Kia's electric EV6 have been down 40.8% in the U.S. during the first five months, nearing the EV9's 48.2% sales drop during the same period. Kia eyes improvement with a few key incentives Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, said that the EV9's new 2026 Nightfall Edition and the GT-Line model with a two-tone roof are among the incentives that should spur the model's sales growth. For its 4th of July event, Kia is selling the 2025 Niro EV with a 0% APR finance offer for 72 months and a $7,500 cash incentive. The brand also offers 1.9% APR for 60 months and a $500 cash bonus on select trims as part of its holiday specials. Before working at Kia, Schreyer was head of the Volkswagen Group's Potsdam, Germany, studio. In 2006, Schreyer was given the opportunity to rebuild Kia's design direction from scratch, with his modern, sleek, and balanced designs leading Kia's global annual sales increase from 1.6 million to 3 million units between 2009 and 2016, according to Autocar. One of the influential designer's key contributions to Kia was the wide tiger nose front grille with top and bottom indents in the center, something he describes as 'a frontal element so strong that you wouldn't even need a Kia badge as an identifier.' Best cars for parking you can find on the market in the UK

Car models from Ford, Kia, Volkswagen, Fiat and more have been named among the easiest to park with in the UK. While driving is something many motorists enjoy, the act of parking can be a bit more difficult and cause stress for some. It comes as research from Cazoo shows that Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) are the most nervous generation by far when it comes to parking. A survey of more than 2,000 motorists found that 96% within the age group faced 'park-xiety'. Additionally, around two-thirds (66%) say they have asked someone else to park their car for them, which is illegal if the person isn't insured on that car. With this in mind, Harry Waring, Motoring Specialist at Cazoo, has shared the 10 best cars currently on the market that are the easiest to park with. Top 10 easiest cars to park with in the UK Fiat 500 A classic first car for a reason, the Fiat 500's compact size, light steering and good all-around visibility make it ideal for slotting into spaces. Ford Fiesta The Ford Fiesta offers functions such as voice control, rear-view cameras and parking sensors available across a range of its models. Waring adds that it is "responsive and solid on the road and in the car park". UK speed limits explained Volkswagen Polo All models of the Volkswagen Polo have a range of advanced safety features, such as automatic braking, that could help you avoid a collision when parking. Waring says: "A slightly more premium supermini, the Polo offers an easygoing driving experience with a focus on comfort rather than outright fun." Mercedes-Benz A-Class The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is considered to be a good option thanks to being equipped with several parking assistance features. This includes standard reversing cameras, parking sensors, and even active parking assist systems that automatically steer the car into parking spaces. Waring adds: "It's relatively compact hatchback form also helps with manoeuvrability compared to larger vehicles, and second-hand examples are very affordable, despite the premium badge." Hyundai i10 The Hyundai i10 is an "excellent" car for the city and is a "dream to park" thanks to its small size, light steering and good all-around visibility. Some more expensive models even have rear parking sensors, a rare feature in a car of this size. What's checked in an MOT Kia Picanto The Kia Picanto takes the crown for one of the UK's least-expensive and best-value cars, and this approach carries through to parking. Waring adds: "Incredibly practical for urban driving, the Picanto's small size, light controls, and good visibility make it a breeze to park." Suzuki Ignis The Suzuki Ignis has a high driving position, which provides good visibility for the driver, and the light steering helps to make parking straightforward. Audi A3 The Audi A3 is described as a "great practical option" that can be fitted with Park Assist. This helps the driver with both parallel and perpendicular parking. 5 tips to help your fuel last longer Skoda Karoq The Skoda Karoq is said to be a "fantastic all-rounder, mid-size SUV" which comes with rear parking sensors as standard. Higher trims often include front sensors or even a reversing camera. Some models may also offer park assist features that can help to steer into spaces. Peugeot 5008 If you're looking for a seven-seater that's manageable to park, the 5008 is a great option.

Rivian Is Missing Out on a Key Demographic

The numbers tell a story In a crowded landscape that includes legacy automakers, as well as rival startups like Rivian and Lucid, Tesla is still top dog when it comes to American electric vehicle sales. According to data from Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive, Tesla sales are eclipsing those of its competitors, even as it records an 8.6% year-over-year drop from last year. In Q1 2025, Tesla managed to move 128,100 of its EVs, while its closest competitor; Ford, sold just 22,550 vehicles in the same period. 0:03 / 0:09 Audi A5 replaces A4: So, what's changed? Watch More However, one brand that has posted lower growth numbers than Tesla is the outdoorsy-focused Rivian. According to KBB and Cox, its meager 8,553 sales in Q1 2025 means that it recorded a whopping 37.1% year-over-year sales drop, higher than established names like Kia. In 2024, it managed to sell 51,579 vehicles, a 3% jump from that in 2023, but at the same time, Tesla managed to move over 1.8 million vehicles. Source: Rivian Study: Rivian is struggling with a key EV-buying demographic According to a recent study by S&P Global Mobility, Rivian's is struggling to connect and resonate with Asian-American buyers in the United States. According to results from Q1 2025, Asian households represent just 7.2% of all the new cars that were registered. However, what stands out is that Tesla and Tesla alone captured a huge chunk of this key demographic, with its vehicles capturing nearly 27.2% of Asian-American drivers. Additionally, Asian-American households made up 12.7% of all electric vehicle (EV) sales that aren't from Tesla or Rivian. Asian-Americans are buying EVs, and the majority are buying Teslas. However, this shows that Rivian struggles to gain a foothold with this demographic, as just 13.7% of its sales are made to Asian-American households. Source: Getty Images One significant factor that S&P researchers Kent Chiu and Steve Giordano identified is the lack of diverse models on the Rivian lineup. Though the more compact R2 SUV is on the way and the hatchback-styled R3 is set to release in the future, Rivian only sells two models, the R1T and the R1S; the former being a pickup truck, a segment where Asian buyers are close to nonexistent. According to S&P data, Asian-Americans accounted for just 2.3% of all full-size pickup truck sales in the U.S., the same segment that the Rivian R1T and contemporary gas-powered rivals like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 compete in. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. But even in the electric pickup market, Rivian falls short. Despite the Tesla Cybertruck's unconventional design alienating 'real truck guys' and 'truck bros,' it's hitting with Asian-American Tesla fans. According to S&P, nearly a quarter (24%, to be exact) of Cybertrucks were sold to Asian-American buyers, while just 8% of Asian-Americans bought a Rivian R1T. The gap extends beyond style and substance Despite this, S&P identified that Rivian faces challenges that extend beyond what kind of cars it wants to sell, as Tesla's deeper appeal is something much more skin-deep. According to data scraped by S&P researchers, some Asian-American buyers are particularly drawn to brands with a very strong premium brand image and companies known for their technological capabilities, which not only explains a gravitational pull towards Tesla but also established luxury car names in the gas-powered space. Their data shows that Asian-American buyers also like some of Tesla's German luxury rivals; 28.3% of sales for the Mercedes EQS SUV can be attributed to Asian households, while 25.5% of BMW iX sales came from the same demographic. More remarkably, S&P also found that 33% of Tesla Model X sales were made to Asian-American buyers. Final thoughts I am Asian-American, and even as someone within this large and diverse diaspora that lives in the NY Metro Area, one of the largest hotbeds for EV ownership growth in the United States, this study does ring somewhat true from an anecdotal point of view. I slightly disagree with the idea that vanity or a perceived luxury image significantly influences Tesla's reputation within the Asian-American community. However, the appeal of a practical car with low maintenance costs, the widespread and convenient Supercharger network, and a buying experience without traditional franchised dealers are significant advantages for people of all walks of life, Asian or not.
