Wouter Goes hears reduced KNVB punishment after red card appeal

The appeal filed by AZ and Wouter Goes has had its effect. The defender has seen his three-match suspension brought down to two, with one conditional.
The KNVB public prosecutor had initially demanded a three-match ban for the AZ centre-back's rash challenge on Go Ahead's Enric Llansana, with one of these conditional. However, the disciplinary committee has now reduced this to two matches, with one conditional. Goes will therefore miss the upcoming home match against FC Groningen.

Goes received support from Deventer on Thursday, with Mats Deijl stating in a written statement that he found the red 'heavy' or harsh. Llansana was also called as a witness. The midfielder spoke out about the violation via a video connection.
'Wouter has been very unlucky, on images you can see that he touches the ball. He goes for the ball with full force, this was a football action that should simply be possible.' The fact that Llansana subsequently suffered was not due to the violation. 'No, my back hurt from the fall.'
Ron Vlaar also put his two cents in by acting as an 'expert in slidings and tackles'. 'I don't like injustice', said the former defender, who also thought red was exaggerated. 'A textbook example of a perfectly executed sliding.' Referee Bas Nijhuis, however, stuck to his position and still called it 'serious foul play'.

Kane wants to give Müller 'perfect' farewell with Club World Cup win

England's Harry Kane warms up ahead of the FIFA World Cup European qualifier at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona. Bradley Collyer/PA Wire/dpa Harry Kane wants to give Thomas Müller the "perfect" farewell from Bayern Munich with the Club World Cup title. "We want to end the season successfully for him. If the Club World Cup final would be his last game for Bayern, the title would be the perfect way for him to finish," Kane told the Absolut Fussball news portal in an interview published on Wednesday. Advertisement Müller is leaving his boyhood club after 25 years as he didn't get a contract extension and the Club World Cup will be his final tournament with Bayern. Kane, however, stressed that they don't need to use Müller's situation as extra motivation at the tournament. "It's a tournament that we take seriously and for which we prepare well. We approach the Club World Cup like any other competition. That's an important mindset," the England striker said. The Bundesliga top scorer of the past season believes that the German record champions definitely have a chance of winning the title. "We're certainly one of the favourites. I think this season has shown what kind of team we are. On a good day, we can beat any opponent in the world."
