Ceasefire left armed forces, citizens feeling let down: Priyank

Time of India12-05-2025

Kalaburagi: Our military personnel successfully eliminated terror installations. Yet, the central govt's ceasefire declaration left both the
armed forces
and ordinary Indian citizens feeling let down, said
Priyank Kharge
, minister for rural development and panchayat raj.During his media interaction in Kalaburagi on Monday, he expressed scepticism about Pakistan's reliability.
"While our forces successfully targeted terrorist bases responsible for attacks on our citizens, a ceasefire was announced," he said and raised questions about the authority behind this decision, its criteria, and the consequences for violations.
He insisted the govt should convene a meeting to provide clarity to the nation."Who is Trump to announce a ceasefire? Have you noticed the points in his tweet? Using the word common sense, he tweeted in a way that gave wisdom to India," he said. He questioned why top officials, including the Prime Minister, the foreign minister, and the national security adviser, have not been transparent about the ceasefire. He emphasised that strengthening foreign relations requires meaningful negotiations, not just cordial meetings between Prime Ministers. He noted America's failure to denounce
terrorism
.He highlighted how China and Turkey have backed Pakistan, whilst the IMF's loan approval to Pakistan indicates India's diplomatic inability to prevent financial support to a terrorism-supporting nation. These developments suggest diplomatic shortcomings. He urged the Prime Minister to convene Parliament and brief the nation about both the terrorist attack and the ceasefire.Priyank criticised media coverage for prioritising entertainment value over factual reporting of the conflict.
He pointed out the spread of misinformation, particularly by panel discussants and BJP-affiliated speakers, making unsubstantiated claims about capturing Karachi and dividing Pakistan into four parts.

While initially tasked with protecting federal buildings and personnel, the new filing says military support is shifting toward direct assistance in immigration operations, including securing raid locations and controlling surrounding streets. A declaration from Paul Eck, deputy general counsel for the California Military Department, submitted as part of the filing, warned that 'the Pentagon plans to direct the California National Guard to support immigration operations,' blurring the line between civil assistance and immigration enforcement.'It's a sense of intimidation and fear that is just so unnecessary and so corrosive to our city,' Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said at a Tuesday press conference. She added that ICE raids are expected to continue for 30 days or said she planned to personally ask Trump to halt the operations. It will feature a military parade, an Army birthday festival, and a special enlistment and re-enlistment ceremony overseen by the president those people that want to protest, they're going to be met with very big force," Trump told reporters during unscheduled remarks in the Oval Office. "They've defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights and slashed our services," the group states on its website. "The corruption has gone too far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings."Trump, meanwhile, reiterated his support for a strong military presence in response to public unrest, including his controversial decision to send 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles. We have all sorts of new ones and very old ones old from World War I and World War II,' Trump was quoted as saying by ABC News."We have a lot of those army airplanes flying over the top, and we have tanks all over the place," the president said, suggesting the event would rival global military parades in grandeur and patriotic spirit.(With inputs from Reuters)Tune InMust Watch

Rajnath Singh: Pakistan on UNSC anti-terror panel is like cat guarding milk

DEHRADUN: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the United Nations Security Council 's (UNSC) decision to appoint Pakistan as vice-chair of its anti-terror panel was like "asking the cat to guard milk". The UN decision is not only surprising but also raises a question mark over the seriousness of the global body in the fight against terrorism, he said. Calling upon the global community and organisations, such as the United Nations, to think on issues like terrorism more seriously, he said, "Only when we are free from terrorism, will we be able to move towards the goal of global peace, progress and prosperity." Singh, addressing a dialogue on 'national security & terrorism', said, "India and Pakistan gained independence at the same time. Today, while India is recognised as the 'mother of democracy', Pakistan has emerged as the 'father of global terrorism'." Addressing a dialogue on 'National Security & Terrorism', here, he described Operation Sindoor as the biggest action taken against terrorism in Indian history, and that it was carried out in response to the terror attack on innocents in Pahalgam. He advised Pakistan to seek India's help if it is unable to take action against terrorism on its soil.
