Election Day 2025: Polls open for Ohio Primary
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The polls are open for this year's primary election in Ohio.
It's not a presidential year, but every election carries its weight.
This election cycle, in Ohio, will see numerous school levies on the ballot as well as Issue 2. The polls opened at 6:30 a.m. and will remain open until 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Roughly 1,100 applications submitted by former federal workers amid Austin hiring campaign
AUSTIN (KXAN) — President Donald Trump's promise to cut federal workforce is starting to show in the latest jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor, which indicated 22,000 fewer federal government jobs in the last month alone. In response to the president's letting go of some federal workforce, the city of Austin re-launched a recruitment effort its used in the past called the Get Hired campaign — this time aimed at those federal workers. 'We value public servants': Austin targeting federal staff let go by Trump administration The city said between March 21 and May 23, the duration of that campaign, the city received roughly 1,100 applications from former federal employees. Of those folks, 30 now work for the city, according to the city's human resource director, Susan Sinz. 'It is good to see that with that previous federal experience, how much we benefit from that….they understand customer service, I think they understand citizen engagement and they really understand how to be a servant leader and in our community that's what we're looking for,' Sinz said. On average, the city has 100 vacancies at any given time, though that includes everything — lifeguards, librarians, police officers — and those vacancies fluctuate greatly based on season. The city employs roughly 17,000 people, Sinz noted. Though that program targeting federal employees wrapped up late last month, Sinz hopes those folks will continue to keep their sights set on our city. Connecticut-Puerto Rico trade commission established
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — The Governor signed an act Friday establishing a Connecticut-Puerto Rico trade commission. Connecticut-Puerto Rico trade commission established Lamont chose Bridgeport as the place he would sign the act because it has the highest Puerto Rican population per capita in our state. Many celebrated along Bridgeport's waterfront, where new construction and established businesses line the harbor. The trade commission is said to add and build on the many relationships that already exist between the state and the island, with trade expected to expand in both directions. 'Not just large companies we're talking about mom and pop businesses in Puerto Rico that are eager to sell their products here in Connecticut because of our growing population,' Rep. Andy Nilsson files to challenge incumbent Senator Thom Tillis in 2026 midterms
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The midterm elections are more than a year away, but candidates are already jockeying for a position. Retired Winston-Salem businessman Andy Nilsson has filed to challenge incumbent Senator Thom Tillis. 'We've got someone who, when he's voting, votes against the president, and doesn't really show up here to explain why or defend himself, it's like we've got a senator who's absent,' Nilsson told Queen City News. Nilsson spoke with Chief Political Correspondent Andy Weber in Greensboro Friday as the state GOP gathered for their annual convention. The odds are against the Republican challenger, as Tillis has already raised several million dollars and brought on staff with ties to the Trump presidential campaign. 'I knew getting into this, that was a big mountain to climb. I knew how big it was. I mean, this is a guy who's been in for 12 years, who's running for 18. He's got a lot of money, he's got a lot of PAC support, but that goes to the center of my argument, that he's out of touch,' insisted Nilsson. Nilsson argued not only is he a better choice over Tillis, but that he also is the right person to face a potential democratic nominee and former North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper. 'I'm not a typical politician. Everybody that Roy Cooper has run against in however many elections that he run has been a typical, recycled, swamp-dwelling politician, I'm not. I was 30 years in business until I retired and started coaching high school football, now I'm working with special needs kids, that's what I do.' Cooper himself has not announced if he will run.
