Beloved Carnegie bar won't hold St. Patrick's Day event amid work to rebuild from devastating fire
Riley's Pour House has been a Saint Patrick's Day staple in Carnegie for decades. On Monday the owners shared a message on social media that they won't be able to host a Saint Patrick's Day event this year.
'When I read that today it was confirmed. It was another, like, confirmed cause I think everybody's just out of place right now,' Kristie Naples said.
Naples was on her way to work at Riley's Pour House on Nov. 14 when she learned about the fire. Officials were called to East Main Street after 1 p.m. for a kitchen fire at the Irish Pub. That fire destroyed Riley's and displaced residents who lived on each side of the restaurant.

Naples and the 29 others who worked at Riley's were forced to find other work.
'It wasn't just a halt with a paycheck, it was everybody that I was used to seeing every day,' Naples said.

Naples, who also worked down the street at Duran's Bar says she and others were hopeful that Riley's might be able to do something for Saint Patrick's Day - until Riley's owners issued a statement that said in part:
'After the completion of the fire investigations, the lot has finally been released and we are now working with Carnegie, our neighbors and demolition experts to have the lot cleared for current safety concerns and for future development. Because of the timing of all of this, we are unable to host a St Patrick's day event this year.'
'I just feel bad they're losing out on a lot of money, a lot of revenue a lot of new people coming into town for it,' said Bobbi Jo Cantley with Duran's.
Duran's bartender says she's expecting an uptick in business with Riley's closed on St. Patty's.
'We're going to get slammed cause last year it was from the front door all the way back and through the dining room all the way back through the back door,' Cantley said.
Naples who has spent the past several years working on the holiday says this year she may actually get to enjoy the holiday.
'I never got to leave Riley's on Saint Patrick's Day. I'm hoping everybody has fun,' she said.
Naples says that the owner of Duran's is planning to give some of their proceeds from this year's Saint Patrick's Day to Riley's to help rebuild.

Value of Stormont Executive's office in Beijing questioned
The value for money of the Northern Ireland Executive's office in the Chinese capital has been questioned. The chair of the Assembly's scrutiny committee for the Executive Office suggested it cost around a quarter of a million pounds a year to run the office in Beijing. The Executive also has offices in Washington DC and Brussels. It has had a presence in Beijing since 2014, before then-first minister Arlene Foster opened an Executive bureau in December 2016. Executive Committee chair Paula Bradshaw said she had concerns around its value for money, after the committee heard from the three bureaux during a meeting last month. Executive Office official Brenda Henderson said she appreciated there is frustration around transparency and accounting for what they do. 'One of the things that I want to do is to get that coherency across all three bureaux and with the international relations team in Belfast to make sure that we have a clear narrative, that our communications plans can let you see, and let our ministers see, exactly who we're meeting, what is the outcome of that, what does it mean, the 'so what' question in terms of the Programme For Government,' she told MLAs. 'Work is already under way on that.' Ms Bradshaw followed up by asking at what point would they conclude it is not value for money, and that they could be doing other things with that money. Ms Henderson said there are different ways to measure value for money. 'One of the things that I know that the overseas offices do is that they build relationships, you have to build those relationships before you utilise them, but there are things about companies, investment, increased student places they bring,' she said. 'I think what we need to do is be more absolutely transparent about that and be clear about the metrics, what we can measure and that we stand in front of those.' Permanent Secretary David Malcolm said he can 'see behind the curtain', and knows what the Beijing office is doing, He expressed frustration it was not communicated. He said last month the vice minister for education in China visited Northern Ireland and signed an agreement with the Confucious Institute in Belfast and the Department for the Economy for a £34 million programme over the next 10 years. He also said in Beijing this St Patrick's Day, there were two community organisations led by Chris Hazzard, including young people who had never left Ireland before. 'There is significant work we're doing,' he said. 'We are also talking to the Chinese Consul about a mini conference here later on,' he said. 'The Chinese have agreed to fund three placements in Beijing through the Arts Council to give people the opportunity to break into the Chinese market. There is a tremendous amount we're doing.' He added: 'Not just in Beijing, in Washington, we punch miles above our weight in the representational role we get, and indeed in Brussels.'

Antonio Conte staying at Napoli after winning Serie A: ‘We're serious people, so we're moving forward'
Antonio Conte has moved to end speculation over his future by signalling his intention to stay at Napoli after winning the Serie A title. Napoli clinched their second league crown in three seasons after defeating Cagliari 2-0 last Friday, beating Inter by one point. There had been talk Conte could leave his position following the Scudetto win but he has now reiterated his commitment to the club. Advertisement 'Managers and owners meet at the end of every season to review the season, to see how it went and find out whether or not they have the same vision for the future, and the same determination to go after particular objectives,' he said, sat alongside owner Aurelio De Laurentiis on Friday. 'That all seems normal to me. It happens at every club.' The deal Conte signed last summer to succeed Francesco Calzona ties him to the club until 2027. 'There is a contract and seeing as we're aligned on the vision we have for the club, there's nothing else to say on the matter,' Conte added. 'We carry on. We're serious people, so we're moving forward.' Conte, 55, was tasked with overseeing an overhaul of the playing squad. Stars of the 2022-23 title campaign departed; striker Victor Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan last summer, before winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent deal in January. Shortly after arriving at the club, Conte stated that 'a total rebuild is needed, from the foundations' at Napoli and that the club was far away from contending. He also criticised his players after a 3-0 Serie A defeat against Hellas Verona in August, saying that they 'melted like snow in the sunshine'. Romelu Lukaku — who previously played under Conte at Inter — joined from Chelsea alongside Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Torino's Italy international centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno. Conte's side conceded just 27 goals in 38 league games, the strongest defensive record in Serie A and 18 fewer than Inter. Napoli did not participate in European football this campaign, having finished in 10th place in 2023-24, and were eliminated from the Coppa Italia at the round-of-16 stage by Lazio. Conte is one of Europe's most successful managers, having won five top-flight titles and several cup competitions. The Italian began his coaching career in Serie B with Arezzo in 2006 and had spells with Bari, Atalanta and Siena before being hired by Juventus in 2011, where he won three straight Serie A titles before resigning in 2014. He won the Premier League in 2016-17 and the FA Cup the following season but departed after Chelsea finished fifth in the league. A two-season spell at Inter followed, narrowly missing out on the Serie A title in 2019-20 before winning it the following season, ending Juventus's streak of nine straight Scudetti. Conte returned to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021 but left by mutual consent 16 months later.
