Two killed in holiday hotspot shooting named as infamous Scottish gangsters
The horror shooting of two British men at an Irish bar on the Costa del Sol in Spain this weekend is believed to be linked to an ongoing brutal gang war in Scotland
Two Scottish gangsters were killed in a horror shooting at an Irish bar in a popular Costa del Sol holiday resort.
Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were reportedly left dead after masked men stormed the Monaghans bar in Fuengirola on Saturday night in front of horrified tourists. The incident occurred in the busy bar just moments after the end of last night's Champions League final. Daily Record reports the bar is owned by Ross Monaghan, a member of the notorious Lyons Glasgow crime family.
Monaghan fled Scotland in 2017 after he was shot at twice while dropping his child off at primary school in Glasgow.
Monaghan was cleared of the murder of notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll, who was shot dead in a brutal gangland assassination in Asda Robroyston carpark in 2010.
Monaghan was tried for the killing, but was acquitted in May 2012 after it emerged there was no evidence which placed him at the Asda store at the time of the shooting.
In August 2017 Monaghan was further cleared of being involved in a brutal street attack on three men outside the Campsie bar in Bishopbriggs. The ambush left one of the victims' ears hanging off. He walked free after prosecutors withdrew charges against him and three others.
The shooting in Spain comes amid a violent gang war that has ripped through Scotland since March, which is believed to have started over a fallout over drugs.
A series of brutal attacks across Scotland, including buildings being firebombed, have been caught in recent months, but this violence has appeared to have gone abroad too.
Disturbing images taken at the scene of the shooting in Spain, which happened at around 11.30pm, show a lifeless body on the ground. Authorities in Spain say the first victim was shot in the chest and the second in the chest and abdomen. A third person was injured after being hit by the bullets, but their condition has not been disclosed.
Police and paramedics were also pictured surrounding one of the bodies after it was covered under a blanket, while horrified holidaymakers and locals looked on. There are no reports that any arrests have been made yet but cops have setup roadblocks in the area as an investigation continues.
Forensic teams have carried out initial enquiries at the scene to gather evidence.

Both critics and audiences seemed underwhelmed by how the film was brought to life. Echoing the sentiment, a critic wrote: "The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves." Another reviewer pointed out: "King of Thieves really should have delivered way more cinematic swag than it does." Meanwhile, a commentator dissected the film's tone: "Torn between jaunty genre hijinks and a bleaker streak of realism, it's a strangely stiff, lethargic account of a cracking tale." The stinging critiques continued with a reviewer saying: "There is one joke in King of Thieves, and it's that the thieves are old. That's it-that's the whole movie," while another lamented: "Marsh had his hands on some very fancy jewels. What he didn't have, sadly, was the script to make them gleam." The audience feedback was similarly tepid, with one viewer saying: "Passes the time but little else. Tries hard to be both a comedy and a thriller but doesn't really succeed at either. Madeleine McCann: fresh police searches to start on Tuesday in Portugal
Madeleine, then aged three, disappeared in 2007 while on holiday with her family in the resort of Praia da Luz after her parents went out to dinner and left her sleeping in a room with her toddler twin siblings. 'The Metropolitan Police Service is not present at the search, we will support our international colleagues where necessary.' Around 30 German police officers, including forensic experts, will be starting the search on Tuesday, with Portuguese police also on the ground, according to reports. On Monday, Portuguese police reportedly closed off dirt roads in the area where searches will be taking place while tents have been set up in the nearby Atalaia area, near a cottage once lived in by Christian Brueckner, who German prosecutors say is the prime suspect in Madeleine's disappearance.
