At Stanley Cup Parade, Panthers Have Perfect Clapback to Critics
At Stanley Cup Parade, Panthers Have Perfect Clapback to Critics originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Florida Panthers aren't just Stanley Cup champions for the second year in a row, but they're also fed up with the narrative that their franchise has no fans.

After thousands lined the streets of Fort Lauderdale for the team's championship parade, the Panthers' official X account fired off a direct message to critics who've long dismissed the team as a 'non-hockey market.'
"The Panthers have no fans," the Panthers posted on X, captioning a video showing hundreds of fans celebrating on the streets.
The 'no fans' jab has long been a go-to insult, especially during the franchise's early years after the Panthers joined the NHL as an expansion team before the 1993-94 season.
Those critics looked out of touch on Sunday as an estimated 400,000 fans swarmed the beach to celebrate the Panthers' second title in a row after making the finals in three straight postseasons.

Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov soaked it all in.
'It's a little better day today than it was last year, but still, this is amazing,' Barkov said.

Coach Paul Maurice declared it 'the summer of love' for the team's loyal fan base.
Meanwhile, alternate captain Matthew Tkachuk said that he "could get used to this," while veteran forward Brad Marchand admitted to being "so happy that I don't have to play against these guys anymore."
In capturing back-to-back Stanley Cup titles, the Panthers became the first repeat winners since another Florida-based franchise, the Tampa Bay Lightning, won the championship in 2020 and 2021.

Former NBA Exec Reveals 'Most Amazing Thing' About LeBron James
Former NBA Exec Reveals 'Most Amazing Thing' About LeBron James originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has a player option worth $52.6 million for next season. The leading scorer in NBA history turns 41 in December. He's the oldest active player in the league. Advertisement James played in 70 games for the Lakers this season, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. He made the All-NBA Second Team, becoming the oldest player in NBA history to accomplish that feat. The Lakers were the third seed in the West this season but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs in five games. James averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per game in the five-game series. He suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee in Game 5. It's unknown if James will choose his 2025-26 player option with the Lakers or decline it and become a free agent. The four-time MVP is not expected to leave Los Angeles since his son, Bronny James, and five-time All-Star Luka Doncic are on the Lakers. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made the All-NBA Second Team this season. Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Former NBA executive John Hollinger, who now writes for The Athletic, created the player efficiency rating stat in the late '90s. He has a new stat called BORD$ (Big Ol' Rating Dollar). Advertisement BORD$ is designed to answer one question: How much value can a player deliver for next season? Hollinger bases this on two variables: the expected quality of the players' minutes and the minutes we'd expect the player to play on an average team. "The most amazing thing about James is that, at 40, he is still good enough and durable enough that BORD$ projects him as one of only 14 players in the entire league who are worth at least $52 million for the coming season, a figure that nears the 35 percent 'supermax' of $54.1 million," Hollinger wrote. There has never been a player to put up the numbers James did this season at 40 years of age. After seeing how he played this season, many believe James will put up elite numbers again in 2025-26. LeBron James Makes Michael Jordan Statement Without Hesitation
LeBron James Makes Michael Jordan Statement Without Hesitation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Hall of Famer Steve Nash taped a live episode of "Mind the Game" on Saturday at Fanatics Fest in New York. Advertisement During the live taping, fans in the audience were able to ask James and Nash, two of the best players in NBA history, questions. One fan asked James which player he would want to play with from a previous era and the 21-time All-Star didn't mince words. James, 40, went with his childhood idol, Chicago Bulls and NBA icon Michael Jordan. "When you're talking about inspiration, there was nobody more inspiring to me than Michael Jordan," James said. "I think our games would've complemented as well. MJ was a flat-out scorer. He had a scorer's mentality. "If I had to pick him, but I know I can't pick him because I know how social media works. You (expletive) are gonna be like, 'Oh, you wanna play with Michael Jordan too? You played with everybody else, (expletive).' Advertisement "I didn't ask the question. I'm only answering it guys. I didn't ask the question." LeBron James and Michael Jordan are two of the greatest players in NBA history. © David Richard-Imagn Images Jordan and James are universally recognized as the top two players of all time. They have combined to win nine MVPs, 10 championships and 10 Finals MVPs. Jordan won five MVPs, six rings and six Finals MVPs with the Bulls in the '90s, while James is a four-time MVP, a four-time champion and a four-time Finals MVP. Jordan is first in NBA history in points per game in the regular season and playoffs, while James is the leading scorer of all time. Jordan hasn't spoken publicly in a long time, but that will change next season, as the NBA great has joined "NBA on NBC" as a special contributor. Palmeiras comes back to tie Inter Miami 2-2, sending both teams to Club World Cup round of 16
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Palmeiras came from behind to play Inter Miami to a 2-2 draw in front of an electric crowd at Hard Rock Stadium, and both clubs advanced to the Club World Cup round of 16 on Monday night. A tie was enough to send both teams to the knockout round after they entered Monday's match tied atop the Group A standings with four points apiece. Advertisement For a while, it looked like Inter Miami would advance as winners of the group after taking a 2-0 lead deep into regulation on goals by Tadeo Allende in the 16th and veteran Luis Suarez in the 65th. The historic Brazilian club Palmeiras clawed back, with a goal from Paulinho in the 80th and then the equalizer from Mauricio a couple minutes before the end of regulation. Messi, who turns 39 on Tuesday, had numerous chances but did not score Monday despite the crowd chanting his name throughout the match. Key moment Messi was seen shaking his head just after Mauricio hammered the tying goal past goalkeeper Oscar Ustari in the 87th minute, as Miami's lead had slipped away in a matter of minutes. Advertisement Takeaways Palmeiras finished as winners of Group A and will face fellow Brazilian squad Botafogo in the round of 16, while Inter Miami will face Group B winner and Messi's former club Paris Saint-Germain. ___ AP soccer: Alanis Thames, The Associated Press
