Prep talk: SoCal products begin play in NCAA baseball playoffs
The NCAA Division I college baseball playoffs begin this week, and there are several graduates from Southern California high schools representing in the college ranks.
Freshman Dylan Volantis of Texas, a Westlake High graduate, has had an All-American season, going 4-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 12 saves as a closer in the SEC.
Freshman shortstop Nate Castellon, a Calabasas grad, helped Cal Poly win the Big West tournament. He's batting .364.
Collin Clarke (Santa Margarita) is 5-2 with a 4.59 ERA for Oregon. Trent Caraway (JSerra) has 33 RBIs for Oregon State. Colin Yeaman (Saugus) is batting .342 with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs for UC Irvine. Aiden Taurek (Foothill) is batting .336 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs for St. Mary's.
Derek Curiel (Orange Lutheran) is the No. 2 hitter for LSU with a .336 average and 45 RBIs. Aidan Cremarosa, who once played for Burbank Burroughs until enrolling at IMG Academy, is 6-5 with a 4.13 ERA for Fresno State.
Dean Curley (Northview) is batting .313 with 12 home runs for Tennessee. Jimmy De Anda (Mater Dei) has a .281 average for Utah Valley.
For USC, Ethan Hedges (Mater Dei) leads the team with a .343 average and has nine saves. For UCLA, freshman Easton Hawk (Granada Hills) has been a late-season closer with five saves.

Georgia football adds first 2027 commitment from elite WR Elite class of 2027 wide receiver recruit Gavin Honore has announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Honore is Georgia's first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class. Honore is ranked as a three-star recruit. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver is the No. 442 recruit in the country and the No. 54 prospect in California, per 247Sports. Honore is the No. 57 wide receiver in the nation. The rising junior also runs track and has excellent speed. "All glory to God let's do it!!!" said Honore after committing to Georgia football. Honore projects to play as a slot receiver in college. Despite his commitment, there's still a long way to go before his eventual signing. The three-star Honore plays high school football for Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. Mater Dei is a national powerhouse and is where Georgia Bulldogs running back Nate Frazier played in high school. Gavin Honore's commitment The Mater Dei star is a foundational piece for Georgia in the 2027 cycle and could help the Bulldogs recruit more top class of 2027 recruits. For now, coach Kirby Smart and Georgia are primarily focused on adding to their SEC-best recruiting haul in the class of 2026. The talented receiver committed to Georgia shortly after visiting the Bulldogs. Honore recently earned MVP honors at a National Preps Showcase. Georgia offered Honore back on April 1 and quickly landed his commitment. Honore's recruitment has been building moment over the past few months. He's received recent scholarship offers from Texas, Texas Tech and Louisville. Honore has excellent quickness. He's a well-refined route runner and made a lot of his sophomore production running routes on deep passing plays.

Texas baseball vs UTSA game score: Live updates as Longhorns fall behind in NCAA regional
With its season on the line, the Texas baseball team will look for some regional revenge. Texas and UTSA are set to meet at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday night in the Austin Regional final. This is the third game between Texas and UTSA this season. UTSA bested Texas in 12 innings back on March 18, and then recorded a 9-7 win in the winners bracket on Saturday. Since Texas (44-13) has lost once in the Austin Regional and UTSA (46-13) is undefeated, the Longhorns will have to beat the Roadrunners tonight and again on Monday in order to advance to a super regional. UTSA, which before Friday's 10-2 triumph against Kansas State had never before won a game in the NCAA Tournament, will move on with just one more win. Stay tuned for live updates. Desperate to keep UTSA from running away with this game, Texas called closer Dylan Volantis out of the bullpen during the fifth inning. Volantis pitched three innings against UTSA on Saturday night. Volantis recorded two outs in the fifth frame. Texas got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning on Casey Borba's RBI double. A fly ball to right field, however, ended the inning and stranded two runners in scoring position. Texas had a change to cut more into its deficit, but UTSA centerfielder Mason Lytle showed why he was named the American Athletic Conference's defensive player of the year. Lytle made a diving catch near the wall to rob Jalin Flores of an extra-base hit and keep Borba on second base. Before Texas made its second pitching change of the evening, Ethan Walker hit the last two UTSA batters he was asked to face. The second plunking occurred with the bases loaded so UTSA extended its lead to 3-0. After Walker's exit, UTSA shortstop Ty Hodge greeted Max Grubbs with a bases-clearing double. Mason Lytle later brought Hodge home with a RBI single. Texas ended up hitting three batters during the third inning, and the Longhorns have 102 HBPs this season. Since 1967, Texas had hit 70 batters once (85 HBP in 2002). Texas ran its way out of a scoring opportunity in the third inning. The Longhorns had runners on first and second base with one out when Kimble Schuessler stung a ball to the warning track in right field. UTSA outfielder James Taussig made a nice catch, and the Roadrunners were then able to get a tagging Rylan Galvan out at third base. It appears that Texas will use a piecemeal pitching plan tonight. After Hudson Hamilton started and allowed a two-run homer in the first inning, Ethan Walker opened the second inning on the mound for Texas. Walker started and pitched 1 ⅔ innings in UT's regional opener on Friday. Thanks to two free passes and an error, UTSA got runners to the corners against Walker in the second inning. But a harmless fly ball to right field ended the threat. Behind a big swing from Norris McClure, the Roadrunners have struck first. The UTSA third baseman hammered a Hudson Hamilton offering over the fence in right field for a two-run highlight. Two of Norris' six homers this season have been hit at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this weekend. He also went deep in UTSA's regional opener against Kansas State. After stranding 14 runners on base last night, Texas again struggled to find a clutch hit against UTSA. Ethan Mendoza and Rylan Galvan led off the game with singles but UTSA starter Gunnar Brown got outs out of the next three at-bats. A strikeout of Adrian Rodriguez left Mendoza on third base.
