Russian defence plant on fire after attack
A drone attack has caused a fire at the VNDIR-Progres plant, which manufactures Kometa receivers for the Russians that protect Russian drones from Ukrainian electronic warfare systems, in the city of Cheboksary, the Chuvash Republic of the Russian Federation. The plant has suspended operations.

Quote from Nikolayev: "Two UAVs fell on the territory of VNDIR, which led to the decision to temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of employees. Another two drones fell in the fields of the Cheboksary and Krasnoarmeyskoye municipal districts – there is no threat to people."
Details: Nikolayev did not mention the consequences of the attack on the plant, only noting that there were no casualties or injuries and that "all services are working in enhanced mode".
However, the Telegram channel Astra has published many photos and videos of the fire at the plant.
For reference: VNDIR-Progres is part of the ABS Elektro production association. According to the company's website, it develops and manufactures "scientific and technical products, software and hardware systems, automation and control systems, electrical products, electronic components, electronic modules and radio-electronic products".
Astra reports that this plant manufactures Kometa/Kometa M satellite signal receivers for the Russians, which help them bypass Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
This plant is located over 1,000 km from Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that air defence forces had intercepted and destroyed 49 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles overnight. In particular, 13 UAVs were supposedly shot down over Russia's Kursk and Nizhny Novgorod oblasts each, nine over Voronezh and Oryol oblasts each, two over Bryansk Oblast, two over the Chuvash Republic and one over Belgorod Oblast.
Background: Russian authorities imposed temporary restrictions at four Russian airports on the night of 8-9 June and explosions rocked the city of Cheboksary in the Chuvash Republic.

The second North Korean destroyer, which was damaged during a botched launch into the water last month, has been moved to a repair facility near the country's border with Russia. Newsweek has reached out to the North Korean Embassy in China for comment by email. While North Korea continues to enhance its nuclear and missile capabilities, leader Kim Jong Un is pushing for naval modernization as part of a broader effort to strengthen the country's conventional military power. However, an accident occurred during the launch of a 5,000-ton destroyer, which Kim described as a "criminal act" that "could not be tolerated." Following the accident, North Korea was seen deploying suspected balloons to assist in the recovery of the destroyer, according to satellite imagery. Last week, state media reported that the warship had been righted for repairs, confirming earlier satellite observations. Kim has reportedly set a deadline for its restoration ahead of a party Congress later this month. Undated imagery released on Monday by Chinese commercial satellite firm MizarVision shows the damaged North Korean destroyer inside a dry dock at the country's northeastern Rajin shipyard-near Russia's border-undergoing repairs following the May 21 accident. Citing satellite imagery captured by California-based Planet Labs, NK Pro of the South Korea-based media outlet NK News reported that the North Korean destroyer was seen being moved into the Rajin shipyard's dry dock on Sunday with assistance from support vessels. Yu Jihoon, a researcher at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, said the North Korean shipyard is capable of conducting "modest repairs and maintenance," CNN reported. The shipyard is located near Rason Port, NK Pro noted, where North Korea and Russia are suspected of engaging in weapons trade using cargo ships. North Korea has been supplying arms to Russia for its war against Ukraine, in exchange for military hardware from Moscow. "Restoration of the damaged warship could accordingly move faster if it involves replacing Russia-sourced electronics or weaponry damaged in the capsizing," NK Pro said. Newsweek has also reached out to the Russian Foreign Ministry for comment by email. A second undated satellite image from the Chinese commercial provider shows damage to infrastructure at North Korea's northeastern Hambuk shipyard, near the city of Chongjin, southwest of Rajin, where the destroyer partially capsized during its launch. The Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday: "After restoring the balance of the destroyer early in June, the [field restoration promotion team] moored it at the pier by safely conducting its end launching on Thursday afternoon … The next-stage elaborate restoration is to be carried out at the dry dock of the Rajin Dockyard for the period of 7-10 days." South Korea's newspaper The Dong-A Ilbo said on Monday, citing a South Korean government official: "The North Korean leader is believed to have ordered the ship's restoration to be completed before the Workers' Party plenary session later this month … Given the tight schedule, North Korea will likely need support from Russia." It remains to be seen whether North Korea will be able to complete repairs to the destroyer before Kim's deadline. It is unclear what consequences, if any, will follow if the deadline is missed. Ukrainian drones hit Russian plant involved in missile output
Ukraine said its drones hit a Russian research and production facility that supplies components for missiles, as Russia unleashed a fresh barrage of air attacks overnight. Two Ukrainian drones struck the site of an electronics developer and manufacturer in Cheboksary, which temporarily halted operations to protect employees, Oleg Nikolayev, governor of Russia's Chuvashia region that's located 1,300 km (800 miles) from the border with Ukraine, said in a Telegram post. The plant is involved in the missile production process, including for the Iskander system, said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Propaganda, on Telegram. It also produces navigation systems for Russian Shahed drones and components used in glide bombs, according to the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces. The attack on the electronics plant comes as Russian forces have been targeting Ukraine with major missile and drone strikes for several days. U.S. President Donald Trump said last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin warned in a telephone call that Moscow would retaliate for Ukrainian drone operations that destroyed several strategic nuclear bombers at airfields across the country. Russia overnight launched 499 drones and missiles, including four Kinzhals and 14 cruise missiles, Ukraine's air defense forces said Monday on Telegram. The military shot down or jammed 479 of them, it said. Ukraine regularly targets Russian plants involved in military production, as Moscow's full-scale invasion continues into its fourth year. While officials from Kyiv and Moscow have held direct talks in Turkey twice in the past month, Russia has so far refused calls by the U.S., Europe and Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire to allow for peace negotiations.
