Photo shows crashed Myanmar army chopper in 2022, not 2025
The image of a crashed helicopter on a hillside was shared on Facebook on May 20, 2025.
"The result of a grilled dragonfly in Bhamo (20/5 - 1:00 pm)," reads its Burmese-language caption, using local slang for a military helicopter and referring to a city in Myanmar's northern Kachin state.
The image circulated after local media said two military helicopters had been shot down, reportedly by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in northern Myanmar on May 20 (archived links here and here).
According to local media, the KIA resumed attacks on Myanmar's ruling military junta following a quake-rehabilitation truce throughout Kachin State, Northern Shan State and Sagaing Region (archived link).
The junta had initially declared a truce in the country's many-sided civil war after a huge quake in late March killed nearly 3,800 and left tens of thousands homeless (archived link).
Combat in the civil war is largely confined to the countryside and smaller settlements, although sporadic grenade and gun attacks on police and junta-affiliated targets are regularly reported in the largest city Yangon.
The same image circulated in similar posts elsewhere on Facebook here, here and here.
But the photo has circulated online since March 2022.
A reverse image search on Google found the same photo was used in a report titled "Five injured after a military helicopter crashed on a mountainside in Hakha", which was published by Chinese state news agency Xinhua's Burmese-language edition on March 29, 2022 (archived link).
The photo caption reads: "Scene of the military helicopter that crashed in Hakha today (MRTV)".
Hakha is the capital of Chin State, nearly 800 km southwest of Bhamo in Kachin State.
The report says the military helicopter was carrying exam papers when it crashed on a mountainside "due to a strong wind".
The same photo was also used in a report by Myanmar's state-run broadcaster Myanmar International TV on March 29, 2022 (archived link).
"Helicopter accident: Tatmadaw helicopter accident near Hakha airport confirmed," reads the report's title, using the military's Burmese name.

Trump confirms China trip after 'very good' call with Xi
Donald Trump has said he will visit China after speaking to its leader Xi Jinping over the phone. The US president said he had reciprocated with an invite to the White House during the "very good talk" - though such a trip has not been confirmed by either side. Thursday's call is the first time the two leaders have spoken since Trump launched a trade war with Beijing in February. Chinese state media reported that the call happened at the White House's request. Trump wrote on social media that the hour-and-a-half conversation was primarily focused on trade and had "resulted in a very positive conclusion for both countries". The Chinese leader was also said to have told Trump that China always kept its promises and since a consensus had been reached, both sides should abide by it - a reference to a recent deal between the two nations struck in Geneva. Both sides have accused the other of breaching the deal aimed at dramatically reducing trade tariffs - a deal Trump touted as a "total reset". It came after Trump raised tariffs on imports from a number of countries, but reserved the highest rates for China. Beijing responded with its own higher rates on US imports, sparking tit-for-tat increases that peaked at 145%. The tentative truce struck in May brought that US tariff on Chinese products down to 30%, while Beijing slashed levies on US imports to 10% and promised to lift barriers on critical mineral exports. The agreement gave both sides a 90-day deadline to try to reach a trade deal. But since then, talks have seemed to grind to a halt amid claims on both sides that the deal had been breached. The US has accused China of failing to restart shipments of critical minerals and rare earth magnets vital to car and computer industries. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has denied the claims and accused the US of undermining the deal by introducing new restrictions on computer chips. Trump introduced new export restrictions on semiconductor design software and announced it would revoke the visas of Chinese students. The US president said following the call that "there should no longer be any questions respecting the complexity of Rare Earth products". He told reporters in the White House: "Chinese students can come, no problem, no problem - its an honour to have them frankly. But we want to check them." Chinese state media reported that Xi warned Washington that it should handle Taiwan "with caution" to avoid conflict, just days after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said China posed an "imminent" threat to the self-governed island. Hegseth told the Shangri-la Dialogue in Singaport that Beijing was "credibly preparing to potentially use military force to alter the balance of power". China sees Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be reunified, and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve this. The US supports Taiwan militarily but does not officially recognise it due to the "One China" policy. According to the readout of Thursday's call given to Chinese media, Xi stressed that the US should handle the "Taiwan issue prudently to prevent a small number of Taiwan Independence separatists from dragging China and the US into a dangerous situation of conflict and confrontation". The call between Trump and Xi is long awaited and comes after months of silence between the two leaders. The White House has touted the possibility they might talk from week one of Trump's presidency - and earlier this week he finally vented his frustration on social media. Orphaned bear cub ‘packed on the pounds' at NY rescue. See him return to wild
An orphaned black bear cub that defied the odds and 'survived a very cold winter alone' in upstate New York quickly 'packed on the pounds' and returned to the wild, video shows. The yearling cub was found all alone near skiing trails — 'so weak he could barely walk,' McClatchy News previously reported. 'The little guy was found on the slopes of Hunter Mt. in March,' Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center said in a Facebook post May 15. 'After only 60 days he packed on the pounds & he was ready to go home.' But as officials were getting ready to release him, more orphaned cubs joined him, the organization said in an April 23 post. 'Since Hunter bear (found on Hunter Mt) came in March, 3 more underweight and weak yearlings have landed with us as well as 5 cubs!' the organization said, adding that the Hunter Mountain bear looked good in a recent photo at the time. A photo shows the bear climbing on a log in his enclosure. Video of the bear's release shows him bursting out of a cage, then pausing to give a last look at the people who made his return to the wild possible. 'He looked back to say 'thank you!'' someone said in the comments. The cub hesitates before bounding off into the forest as someone off camera chuckles. 'I am crying,' someone said in the comments. 'It takes a big wide wild village.' The video also shows the release of another bear that the organization referred to as the Margaretville bear. 'She was spotted late last year as it was getting cold,' the organization said in the post. 'After two weeks of being seen running around looking for food in Margaretville, she was finally captured by Michael our long time volunteer. These two bears were extremely (underweight) when found & we are thrilled to say they made a great recovery. Let Wild Be Wild!' That bear took off into the forest with no hesitation, video shows. In a video shared shortly before the organization released the Hunter Mountain bear, four of the cubs are seen playing together in their enclosure. 'Just in case anyone was wondering what happens when you put 4 orphaned cubs in a 4x8 room,' the organization said in a May 3 post. 'If you guessed chaos you would be correct.' Video shows the cubs running around the enclosure, climbing up and down and then tumbling off a log. Several of the remaining cubs were released or will be released soon, according to posts from the organization and from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
