Operation Sindoor: How Security Forces & Agencies Executed 5-Phase Plan To Avenge Pahalgam? — EXPLAINED
Operation Sindoor: In a strong retaliation following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army early Wednesday launched 'Operation Sindoor' and carried out precision airstrikes in PoK and Pakistan and destroyed the terrorism infrastructure of JeM and LeT. In a meticulously planned assault, the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated exceptional coordination while conducting a targeted strike on Pakistani soil.
The operation displayed a well-defined strike ratio, with the Indian Army executing 70 per cent of the attacks and the Indian Air Force taking responsibility for the remaining 30 per cent.
In today's episode of DNA, ZEE News analysed and explained how the coordinated efforts of the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and security agencies avenged the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and left several others injured.

According to ZEE News sources, the operation was carried out with absolute precision and coordinated planning without crossing the international border.
The Indian Air Force played an instrumental role, deploying Rafale fighter jets that launched deadly SCALP and HAMMER missiles — all without crossing the international border. Meanwhile, the Indian Army used indigenous suicide drones to target terrorist hideouts inside Pakistan. The entire operation was, however, not as easy as it seemed. It was planned and executed in five distinct phases:
5 Phases Of Operation Sindoor
Phase 1: Target Selection
Indian military satellites and the intelligence agency RAW gathered critical data from space and on-ground sources. Targets were chosen based on confirmed terrorist presence and training activity, ensuring minimal risk to civilian life.
Phase 2: Target Assessment
Within 15 days, detailed reconnaissance was conducted. RAW collected information on local residents, terrorist movements, and Pakistani military patrols in these areas. The structure and strength of key buildings, such as the Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters in Bahawalpur, were analysed with precision, right down to the thickness of the concrete roofs.
Phase 3: Weapon Selection
Based on insights from the first two phases, weapons were carefully chosen. For instance, SCALP missiles were selected for their long-range and high-precision capabilities, ideal for destroying fortified structures. These missiles were instrumental in targeting the specific section of the Jaish headquarters where terrorists were located.
Phase 4: Tactical Execution
The military then mapped out the mode of assault for each target. Rafale jets were assigned to attack Bahawalpur, located 100 kilometres from the border. Suicide drones were used to obliterate camps like Sawai Nala and Bilal Camp in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Phase 5: Timing the Strike
The final phase involved selecting the most strategic time for the attack, post 1 AM, when enemy alertness was at its lowest and terrorists were likely asleep. This timing enabled maximum impact and minimised the possibility of retaliation.

Indian embassy in Iran in touch with students to ensure safety, relocation amid Israel conflict
The Indian embassy in Iran has said that it is continuously monitoring the situation and engaging with Indian students to ensure their safety and relocation amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The statement by the Ministry of External Affairs read, 'The Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran to ensure their safety.' 'In some cases, students are being relocated with Embassy's facilitation to safer places within Iran. Other feasible options are also under examination. Further updates will follow. Separately, the Embassy is in touch with community leaders regarding welfare and safety,' it added. Earlier, former president of Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit Ravinder Raina said that the Centre is taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and businessmen from his state. On Sunday, the Indian embassies in Israel and Iran issued an advisory to all Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin to stay in touch with the office, and provided a list of emergency contact numbers on X (formerly Twitter). People were also advised to stay in touch with the embassy on social media. On the same day, Lok Sabha MP Ruhullah Mehdi said that an Israeli strike hit Hujat Dost Ali hostel in Tehran, housing several Kashmiri students. He said that some students sustained minor injuries. The J-K National Conference leader said he wrote to External Affair Minister S Jaishankar, 'urging their relocation within Iran or evacuation once the airspace opens.' Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also said he spoke to the Jaishankar who assured him that necessary steps were being taken in this regard. On the other hand, citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Portugal, the Philippines and Finland have crossed the Astara border checkpoint and headed to the airport in Azerbaijan's capital, according to media reports. New Delhi and Baku are amid a diplomatic rift following the latter's support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The conflict between Islamic regime and Israel has entered its fourth day with a wave of Iranian missiles breaching Israel's Iron Dome and hitting Tel Aviv and Haifa, among other cities. The direct confrontation between the two countries was triggered by airstrikes under the umbrella of Israel's Operation Rising Lion on June 13, which targeted Iranian nuclear and defence installations and crippled Iran's military chain of command by killing key officials.

Supreme Court stops Centre, IAF from releasing woman officer from service
The Supreme Court on Monday (June 16, 2025) directed the Centre and the Indian Air Force (IAF) not to release from service a woman officer, who was denied permanent commission. A Bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan referred to the May 22 order of the top court in which similar directions were passed to the Centre and the IAF on a plea of Wing Commander Niketa Pandey and said the same directions would apply in the case of Wing Commander Kavita Bhati. Without prejudice to the rights of the parties or equity in favour of the officer, the Bench said Wing Commander Kavita Bhati shouldn't be relieved and should be allowed to remain in service till the next hearing. Ms. Bhati, a short service commission officer, claimed she was wrongly denied permanent commission. The top court posted the hearing on August 6 before a regular bench, when matters related to IAF would be taken up for hearing. The top court on May 22 restrained the Centre and the IAF from releasing Pandey, who was part of Operation Balakot and Operation Sindoor but was denied permanent commission. Pandey claimed discrimination in granting permanent commission to her.
