Florida State football's kickoff time in season opener vs Alabama reportedly set
Florida State's football season opener against Alabama will be a day game at Doak Campbell Stadium. According to Brett McMurphy, the game time for this SEC-ACC matchup will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Beforehand, the Tennessee-Syracuse game, which will be in Atlanta, will be at noon. The LSU-Clemson game will be a primetime game at 7:30 p.m. For Sunday's slate, the South Carolina-Virginia Tech game will be on ESPN at 3 p.m. in Atlanta.
This will be the sixth meeting between FSU and Alabama, but it'll be played at Doak for the first time. The stadium is expected to be fully renovated before kickoff. The FSU-Bama game is considered a host site for ESPN's "College GameDay", in which Lee Corso, an FSU alum, will be making his final appearance on the tailgate show.

FSU is coming off a 2-10 season last year, while Alabama finished 9-4. Mike Norvell will be in his sixth season with the Seminoles.

Witness says he tried to help victims involved in I-40 crash
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A day after a deadly multi-car crash, a witness told WREG that he tried to help victims. Memphis Police said that five vehicles were involved in the wreck on I-40 and N. Hollywood around 3:30 on Saturday afternoon. Officials said that while vehicle #1 was traveling westbound on I-40 W and struck the rear of vehicle #2, which was also traveling westbound on I-40. That caused vehicle #2 to strike the rear of vehicle #3 and vehicle #3 struck the rear of vehicle #4. Vehicle #4 then struck the rear trailer of vehicle #5. The wreck led to all westbound lanes of the interstate being shut down for hours. A WREG reporter spoke with a man who said he's an Army reservist and has trained for casualty situations. MPD: Three killed in I-40 multi-car accident After seeing the crash, he pulled over to help a woman try to break a window of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was involved. He described to WREG what happened next. 'I go to the driver's side and I'm able to pull the driver out and I unbuckle the passenger but by the time I get over there the car is already going up in flames and another bystander passes me a fire extinguisher and we try to use that to put the fire out but it's not enough,' he said. 'I just want to offer my condolences to the family, I feel really bad for the family and all the loss they're going through in such a short amount of time.' Police told us a fourth person was also hospitalized, but should be okay. WREG has reached out to investigators for more information about what happened. Follow our coverage of the WCWS from Oklahoma City as the five remaining teams chase the softball national title Imagn Images So far, the Vols are all over Oklahoma's Sam Landry. Landry primarily works on the sides of the plate, and Tennessee is working with what she's giving it. That sacrifice fly by Vols catcher Sophia Nugent against her former team in the Sooners not only gives her team a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but it continues what's emerging as an early trend in this game: go with where it's pitched. Both Gabby Leach and Pannell drove outside pitches the other way, and facing Nebraska's Jordy Bahl last week was great preparation for seeing Oklahoma's Sam Landry. Imagn Images That was an absolute shot of a line drive by Vols third baseman Taylor Pannell. Sooners center fielder Abigaile Dayton didn't take a great angle on that ball, going straight across instead of a slanted angle, and a passed ball gets the Vols on the board. Karlyn Pickens is a totally different pitcher for Tennessee when she has the lead. T1 - Tennessee 1, Oklahoma 0 A single, a double and a passed ball, and the Vols have the lead. Just what they needed against the powerhouse Sooners. A rematch of the 2013 final ... when these players were in elementary school. I knew Teagan Kavan would come through after what was kind of a shockingly close Super Regional against Clemson. As for the rest of the matchups today: Tennessee vs. Oklahoma: While most of me REALLY wants Tennessee to shut the Sooners down so we can have some parity here (and so the Sooners can face some challenges), I think we're going to have a relatively close one here. In the Super Regionals, Karlyn Pickens dominated in Game 3 against Nebraska, but Game 1 was a little iffy. I think it'll be somewhat similar here, so I think the Sooners will take this first matchup. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Vols come back with a vengeance after it. Honestly, they're my pick to win it all, but I think they'll drop this first one. While most of me REALLY wants Tennessee to shut the Sooners down so we can have some parity here (and so the Sooners can face some challenges), I think we're going to have a relatively close one here. Keep in mind, these are both SEC teams (weird), and they've met a few times earlier this season. Tennessee won the first game, 5-2, while the Sooners won the second, 4-1. In the series finale, Tennessee came out on top 5-3. Pickens pitched in both of the Lady Vols' wins, giving up 10 total hits and striking out 12. What's even more impressive is Tennessee won on the road. But that was all the way back in March. Oklahoma has gotten a lot better since then, and it will be very hard to beat the Sooners again. But as good as that game was, I think I'm even more excited for this next one on the slate: Oklahoma vs. Tennessee. I came into this NCAA Tournament thinking that Tennessee is one of the only squads that could potentially stifle Oklahoma's five-peat chances, especially with Karlyn Pickens in the circle for the Vols. I guess we'll see here soon. I am one to love a high-scoring, offensive matchup, but Texas' defensive prowess today kept me locked in. The Longhorns beat the Gators 3-0, earning the day off on Friday and facing the winner of No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 7 Tennessee on Saturday. Oklahoma-Tennessee starts at 2:30 p.m. ET. Imagn Images Teagan Kavan and Joley Mitchell were the stars in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series as Texas beats Florida 3-0. Texas will play the winner of Oklahoma-Tennessee on Saturday. Florida will play the loser of that game on Friday. Kavan went the distance in the circle for Texas, allowing just two hits with only two hits. Mitchell had two solo home runs. Tennessee overcomes controversial call, defeats UCLA to reach Women's CWS semifinals
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Laura Mealer's RBI single in the ninth inning gave Tennessee a 5-4 win over UCLA on Sunday that lifted the Volunteers into the Women's College World Series semifinals and eliminated the Bruins. The game nearly had a controversial finish. UCLA's Megan Grant hit a two-run blast with two outs in the top of the seventh inning that appeared to tie the score at 4-all. There was an umpire review that appeared to involve whether or not Grant touched home plate. After a nearly 15-minute delay, the home run ruling was upheld because it was determined on the field that the runs were scored, and the home plate umpire announced that the play was not reviewable. Tennessee coach Karen Weekly said Tennessee noticed that Grant's teammates touched her and helped her back to home plate. Weekly believed that was illegal, which would have turned Grant's homer into the third out, so the Volunteers notified the umpires. Had Grant been called out, the game would have ended with Tennessee winning 4-2. 'I think everybody but four people (umpires) saw the play at the plate,' Weekly said. 'We saw in the dugout that she missed the plate, and then we saw that her teammates had kind of pushed her back. And by rule, that should have been nullified.' Grant said she didn't remember much after the 251-foot blast. 'It was just kind of a blackout moment." she said. 'I know going into that bat I just wanted to keep my mind right, stay aggressive. And honestly, after the swing, I did blackout indeed. After the fact, I just kind of trusted God with everything. The tensions were high and everything, and that's just where I just laid my pressure on.' Even after giving up the homer, Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens recovered and went the distance for the win. The first-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American gave up four earned runs on 11 hits and struck out seven. 'Well, during that lengthy review/not review, we talked about if it comes back and it goes against us and we're tied up, then we keep playing," Weekly said. 'So we just kept putting them in that mindset — I think prepare for the worst. And then if the best happens, great.' Some of the Tennessee players were dancing near the circle during the review. 'No matter what the call was going to be, we're flushing it and worrying about the next pitch,' Pickens said. Taylor Pannell's two-run homer put Tennessee up 4-2 in the fifth to help set up the dramatic ending. She had three hits. UCLA's Alexis Ramirez and Sofia Mujica hit solo homers and Jordan Woolery had four hits. The Bruins (55-13) were trying to become the first semifinalist from the Big Ten since Michigan in 2015. Tennessee (47-16) will play Texas on Monday in the semifinals and will have the beat the Longhorns twice to advance to the best-of-three championship series. Texas will need to win just once to reach the championship series for the third time in four years. Pickens threw 148 pitches, but Weekly said her ace will be ready to go against the Longhorns. 'This is an absolute stud in volleyball and basketball and softball and could be playing D1 in any sport. So I think that works in her favor. Tonight's going to be all about recovery and hydration. There's no tomorrow. So Karlyn's going to be ready to come out tomorrow and fight for her team.'
