2 women Maoists die in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur

RAIPUR: Two women Maoists were shot dead during an encounter with security forces in Narayanpur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
According to police, the gun battle erupted late Wednesday evening in the dense forests of the Abhujhmarh region, in the region of Kohkameta.
The operation involved a joint team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF), and they headed out on anti-Naxal operation, based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of senior Maoist cadres from the Marh division.
Personnel from the DRG units of both Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts took part in the offensive. During the search operation following the exchange of fire, security forces recovered the bodies of two women insurgents, along with one INSAS rifle and a .315 bore rifle from the encounter site.
Police said the operation was still ongoing as of Thursday morning. Further details are awaited.

Improved cooperation with Nepal Police for joint operations was encouraged, alongside a review of the current political and security dynamics in the border region. Attendees included senior officers from the 48th, 71st, 20th, and 51st SSB battalions, local police officials, and representatives from the NIA, IB and other allied agencies. Addressing the gathering, Thakur stressed the need for maintaining India-Nepal relations through collaborative efforts and praised the support of all agencies in curbing cross-border crime.

The exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists continued continuously since the evening of 25 June 2025. Detailed information is being collected regarding the cadre profiles of deceased Maoists and the criminal cases registered against them. In the last 18 months, a total of 414 Maoist cadres have been killed in various encounters in the Bastar Range, including top Maoist leaders such as CPI (Maoist) General Secretary Basavaraju alias Ganganna and CCM Gautam alias Sudhakar.

Madurai District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar flagged off the anti-drug awareness rally here on Thursday on the occasion of International Drug Awareness Day. The rally, participated by school and college students, emphasised the importance of creating a drug free Tamil Nadu. About 300 participants who took out the rally carrying placards and banners informed public about the ill-effects of consuming drugs and other related substances. On behalf of Madurai City Police, Commissioner J. Loganathan flagged off the awareness of students of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College. The 'Anti-Drug Club' of the institution along with Prohibition Enforcement Wing of city police went on a rally which involved taking oaths against drug consumption.
