Man Utd plot second incoming Premier League transfer as Garnacho wants £50m deal

Manchester United have completed their first summr transfer in Matheus Cunha but could see some difficulty facilitating all of the exits they desire The transfer window has only been open a day, but Manchester United are already set to be one of the most talked about clubs across the summer. Ruben Amorim's side are set to see plenty of turnover as the Portuguese coach looks to turnaround the team's performances. Bruno Fernandes' name will dominate headlines in the short-term having been set a deadline by Al Hilal to decide on a £100million move away from United. The Portuguese star's cryptic social media post, certainly did little to quieten speculation. ‌ Exits also await for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony, who both spent the second half of last season on loan. United will hope to find permanent moves for the duo as they attempt to raise funds. ‌ There will be incoming deals to look forward to too. Matheus Cunha has seen a deal agreed to join the Red Devils, while potential Fernandes replacements area already been touted. A busy few months awaits. Rashford blow Manchester United have been handed a setback in their bid to offload Marcus Rashford this summer, with Barcelona telling the Red Devils they don't want to pay for the winger, according to reports. ‌ Rashford is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after a successful loan spell at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old netted four goals and assisted five more under Unai Emery but does not appear to want to remain in the Midlands, despite Villa holding a £40m option to sign him permanently. Rashford desires a move that will see him play in the Champions League, with Barcelona said to be his preference. According to German outlet Bild, the club do not want to pay the £40m fee associated with him however. ‌ Barca boss Hansi Flick is interested in making the deal happen but the side are only keen on a loan move. That will come as significant blow to United, who are in a difficult financial position and want to bring in cash if they are to spend this summer. Garnacho preference Alejandro Garnacho is targeting a £50m move to Chelsea this summer, despite interest from Napoli, reports claim. The 20-year-old is another who looks certain for an Old Trafford exit having been told to find a new club. Garnacho was benched by Amorim for the team's 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham before being left out for the final day of the season clash against Aston Villa. His manager said to have told him "you better pray that you can find a club to sign you". ‌ Reports claim the Argentina international wants stay in England to establish himself as a world star. Chelsea were interested in signing the winger in January, with his representatives pictured at Stamford Bridge. Surprise move After signing Matheus Cunha, United could look to make another Premier League addition according to reports. The Red Devils are eyeing a deal for Brighton ace Pervis Estupinan. ‌ The club are said to have made an enquiry over the defender, who would be seen as bringing greater physicality into the side. Though United only signed Patrick Dorgu in January and still have Luke Shaw at their disposal. Amorim does not believe his squad to be fast enough or physical enough currently however.

Lleyton Hewitt's son Cruz suffers big setback in his quest to follow in his dad's footsteps

Cruz Hewitt has rekindled memories of his dad Lleyton's battling heyday as he went down fighting in his first-round contest in the boys' event at the French Open. The 16-year-old son of Australia's former world No.1, who had gone through qualifying to make the event at Roland Garros, proved a handful on Sunday for Italian Pierluigi Basile, two years his senior and higher-placed in the world junior standings, before succumbing 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-3. Hewitt lost the tightest of opening sets on a breaker and looked practically down and out as Basile served for the match at 5-3 in the second set and earned a match point at 5-4, but the Sydney youngster fought tigerishly to turn it around and take the match into a decider. The Italian had the superior firepower but Hewitt wouldn't lie down, revving up the the galleries packed round the tight court No.4 with the sort of crowd-rousing exhortations taken straight from his father's book. Ultimately, he lost in two hours 10 minutes, unable to reach the second round as he had done at the junior event in January at the Australian Open, where he also lost in the first round in the qualifiers for the senior event. The loss marked Cruz's grand slam return after his time at this year's tournament in Melbourne was marked by controversy surrounding him and fellow Aussie Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios was accused of harassing Hewitt over a photo the youngster posted to social media showing him posing with world No.1 Jannik Sinner, who was awaiting his punishment for breaching anti-doping rules at the time. Kyrgios, who has been a vocal critic of Sinner, was not happy at seeing the 16-year-old with the Italian. Kyrgios commented under Cruz's post: 'Love ya Cruz but this is wild', then later adding 'Cooked post' with a needle emoji. The Aussie firebrand also wrote: 'Thought we were boys' with several broken-heart emojis, with his comments drawing heavy fire from tennis fans and great of the game Andy Roddick. Kyrgios later explained that he's good friends with Cruz and his remarks were a joke between the pair. On Monday, 16-year-old Emerson Jones, the world's No.2 female junior, kicks off her campaign as top seed in the girls' event against US qualifier Capucine Jauffret, while the other Australian in the boys' tournament Ty Host will face US sixth seed Benjamin Willwerth. Hewitt wasn't the only son of a famous player to feature in Sunday's program, with fifth seed Jagger Leach, whose mother is American former triple grand slam winner Lindsay Davenport, beating Kazakh Zangar Nurlanuly 6-1 1-6 6-0.

Iga Swiatek battles back to extend winning French Open run to 25 matches

The four-time champion has not lost a match at Roland Garros since 2021, but she appeared to be heading for the exit when Elena Rybakina led 6-1 2-0. Rybakina, the former Wimbledon champion, had raced into a 5-0 lead after only 20 minutes. But in a match which eventually lasted two and a half hours, Swiatek came through 1-6 6-3 7-5. Never give up. Keep on fighting. That's what champions are made of.#RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 1, 2025 The Pole, who turned 24 on Saturday, now matches Monica Seles' 1990s run of 25 match wins at the tournament. She said: 'It was tough. In the first I felt like I was playing against Jannik Sinner!' Swiatek will face Elina Svitolina, who sprung a surprise by knocking out fourth seed and last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, in the quarter-final. The 30-year-old from Ukraine saved three match points before winning 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-1 in another dramatic match. 'I would've never believed this match would swing my way,' she said. 'It was a really difficult match, Jasmine was playing really, really well. It was really tough. I had to fight until the last point and I'm very happy to be in the next round. Elina Svitolina saves 3 match points and upsets last year's finalist Paolini 🤯#RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 1, 2025 'Of course it's one or two points which decided the second set. I was really pleased to win the second set and played really well to close the match. 'We are at a grand slam so everyone is playing very well and everyone is fighting. It's all about trying to stay focused and finding the opportunities.' Svitolina's husband, Gael Monfils, was knocked out by Jack Draper in a thrilling four-setter on Thursday night. 'It's important to recover because today was a very difficult match,' she added. 'An ice bath, some food, speak with my brother and Gael as well, enjoy the moment with them and then practice tomorrow to prepare for my next round.' Italian Paolini, who also reached the Wimbledon final last year, said: 'It's a tough one. I think we played a great match. I had my chances. 'She played well, I didn't. You know, it's tennis, so it's hard to accept, but I have to.'
