Nova star reveals the VERY embarrassing reason his Perth radio station went off the air

Daily Mail28-05-2025

Ross Wallman has revealed the mortifying reason his Perth radio station unexpectedly went off air this week.
Nova 93.7 listeners were left scratching their heads early on Tuesday morning when the station suddenly began broadcasting 'dead air'.
Appearing on the Nathan Nat & Shaun show following the flub, Ross, who is the station's Workday announcer, was forced to speak about the broadcasting faux pas.
'I don't like talking about this, but if you were listening this morning at 5:40am, we went off air,' Ross said.
He then went on to admit the reason for the error was that he was otherwise indisposed.

'It's a little technical thing, but it's my responsibility to keep us on air. I happened to be in the toilet at the time.'
When his Nova colleague Nat Locke asked what Ross was doing that kept him otherwise occupied, he tried to keep a modicum of decorum.
'Just doing what I've gotta do... business,' he said sheepishly.
Radio sleuth Nat was not satisfied with Ross' nebulous answer, asking for more explicit detail with, 'Poo?'
Ross all but confirmed Nat's guess, adding that the situation, a radio presenter's worst nightmare, was made even worse thanks to a new roll of toilet paper.
He admitted that despite needing to get back to the studio to rectify the error, an uncooperative roll kept him tethered to the commode.
'Then I heard it go off air so I had to run back in, but I couldn't because I had to use the toilet paper,' he said.
'The toilet paper was brand new toilet paper so you couldn't get that first bit going.'
Leaving little to the imagination, Ross continued: 'I couldn't start it off. I'm tearing at it and there's little tiny flakes coming off.'
He said that more insult was added to embarrassing injury when he heard his name being called over an intercom informing him the station was not broadcasting.
'I can't come into the studio until this is finished,' he said.
'Anyway, that was my morning.'
Ross' toilet trouble quickly became a much bigger issue, with Nat raveling such a break in broadcast was quickly discovered by Nova bosses.
'Because we were off air for long enough, it triggers an automatic alert to all the people in charge,' she laughed.
Getting the ball rolling again may have been the end of it, but Ross revealed he now has to provide an explanation for the unplanned sounds of silence.
'I have to write an official report now as to why we went off air at 5.40,' the hapless presenter admitted.
However, it appears he won't face too much disciplinary action, with the station commenting with a crying laughing emoji on an Instagram clip of the exchange.
The embarrassing admission comes after 93.7 breakfast host Nathan Morris returned to the airwaves earlier this month after an extended absence.
The 48-year-old radio veteran told listeners he went missing from his popular breakfast show with Shaun McManus and Nat Locke so he could deal with a 'monumental' personal issue.
Nathan said he could not reveal details about his enforced break because it involved a legal matter.
'Something happened in my personal life that was one of these monumental things that happens that you can't really process,' he said during Monday's Nathan, Nat and Shaun show.
'Something comes in that's so different no one has gone through it, no one can give you advice.
'It started back last year and reared again this year. I can't speak too much about it because there is legal proceedings that's got nothing to do with me but I cannot speak about it because of that.'
