UN Global Compact Launches Central Asia Network to Drive SDG Progress
ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 19, 2025 /CNW/ -- The UN Global Compact announced the official launch of its new Country Network for Central Asia yesterday in Kazakhstan, a multi-country office that will serve Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. This landmark initiative will connect more than 140 participant companies in the region with the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, equipping them with the tools, resources and framework needed to advance sustainable business practices and align with the Sustainable Development Goals.
"Central Asia sits at a strategic crossroads between Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and is entering a period of rapid economic and political transformation," said Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. "By launching a Country Network here, we are anchoring responsible investment and sustainability into this dynamic corridor, and harnessing the region's untapped private-sector potential to drive green growth, improve transparency and foster social cohesion."
Until now, efforts in sustainability, corporate governance and SDG implementation have largely operated in silos across the five countries. The Central Asia Network will establish a cross-border platform that advances the modernization agenda of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazahstan, by accelerating the green-economy transition, enhancing business transparency, and promoting accountable foreign investment — ensuring private-sector initiatives deliver tangible impact. With over 60 percent of the population under the age of 30, the Network will also serve as a vital bridge between global standards and the aspirations of local entrepreneurs, women-led enterprises and next-generation leaders.

The launch of the Central Asia Country Network reflects the UN Global Compact's commitment to regional empowerment and localized implementation of global agendas, in line with ongoing UN reform priorities. It follows the establishment of two new Country Networks in 2024 and brings the total number of Country Networks worldwide to 64.

Ontario Securities Commission Publishes Study on Canadian ETF Market
TORONTO, June 19, 2025 /CNW/ - The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) today published a detailed study examining the liquidity and arbitrage mechanism of Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) in Canada. The OSC ETF study comes as the Canadian market has experienced significant growth over the last ten years, expanding to more than 1,200 ETFs with over $500 billion in assets by the end of 2024. Retail participation in ETFs, including trading activity, has also seen an increase over the last five years. Despite this substantial growth, there has been limited research on how Canadian ETFs have functioned in recent years. The study focused on three key areas: ETF secondary market liquidity; Effectiveness of the arbitrage mechanism in ensuring that ETF market prices reflect their Net Asset Value (NAV); and Potential drivers of ETF liquidity and the arbitrage mechanism. The findings from this study informed the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) consultation on Enhancing Exchange-Traded Fund Regulation. The consultation was published concurrently with this report. "ETFs have become popular among a broad spectrum of investors and have proven resilient in the face of recent financial and macroeconomic events," said Grant Vingoe, CEO of the OSC. Official opening of the Résidence de l'Ancrage in L'Isle-Verte: 20 social and affordable housing units for seniors Français
L'ISLE-VERTE, QC, June 19, 2025 /CNW/ - The governments of Quebec and Canada, the Municipality of L'Isle-Verte and the Corporation Les amis des ainés de L'Isle-Verte today marked the official opening of the Résidence de l'Ancrage, a 20-unit social and affordable housing project for semi-independent seniors in L'Isle-Verte. This project required a total investment of over $12.4 million. The event was attended by Sonia Bélanger, Quebec Minister Responsible for Seniors and Minister for Health, on behalf of France-Élaine Duranceau, Quebec Minister Responsible for Housing; Amélie Dionne, Member of the National Assembly for Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education; Ginette Caron, Mayor of L'Isle-Verte; and Daniel Gauthier, President of the Corporation Les amis des ainés de L'Isle-Verte. The Government of Quebec contributed more than $5.6 million through the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ) for construction of the building. The SHQ is also securing the corporation's mortgage loan. The Government of Canada contributed $5.1 million through the second Canada-Quebec Rapid Housing Initiative Agreement. The Municipality of L'Isle-Verte granted the corporation a 35-year tax credit worth a total of $1.2 million.
