Panthers at Oilers Stanley Cup Final Game 5 odds, picks: Is Leon Draisaitl the playoff MVP favorite?

New York Times13 hours ago

Four games in, and we can already consider this year's Stanley Cup Final a classic.
Three of the four games between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers have gone to overtime, including Thursday night's heroics from the Oilers, who erased a 3-0 deficit before winning in overtime thanks to Leon Draisaitl.

Series tied 2-2
Series odds: Oilers -115, Panthers -105
Draisaitl lost out on the Hart Trophy to Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on Thursday night, but he could end his spring with two meaningful trophies in his case — the Stanley Cup and a playoff MVP. The German's overtime goal in Game 4 was his fourth of the postseason, setting a record for most OT winners in a single playoff campaign. He's tied for the points lead this postseason with last year's playoff MVP Connor McDavid, and is second in goals behind Florida's Sam Bennett. Draisaitl has also reached the 30-point plateau in the playoffs for the third time in his career. It's his award to lose, honestly.
Florida, meanwhile, is left to pick up the pieces after a blown lead and a missed opportunity to take a 3-1 series stranglehold on Edmonton. That comes after the Panthers chased goaltender Stuart Skinner from his net for the second time this series. And after finally getting solid contributions from Matthew Tkachuk (two goals, three points) and Aleksander Barkov (two assists) in Game 4.
The key now will be to stop the Oilers from gaining momentum when they play from behind. If Calvin Pickard is the Oilers' choice in goal for the remainder of the series, they'll need to solve him and put their opponent further into goaltending peril. It's a small sample size, but Pickard has a .935 save percentage against the Panthers in two appearances during the series.
