
UPSRTC gets over 6K applications for women conductor posts
Lucknow: UPSRTC received 6,150 applications against the requirement of 5,000 women conductors during job fairs held across the state from April 8 to April 21, which were organised exclusively to recruit women for these positions. Applications were invited both online and offline for the openings.
Selected candidates will be appointed to depots in their home districts. To be eligible, women must either be members of the
UP National Rural Livelihood Mission
or the
UP Skill Development Mission
, or hold any of the following: an NCC 'B' certificate, an NSS certificate, or Scouts and Guides 'Rajya Puraskar' or 'Rashtrapati' award certificates.
Applicants must have passed the Class 12 examinations and possess a Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) certificate. Those with NCC, NSS, or Scouts and Guides certificates will receive an additional five per cent weightage on their Class 12 marks.
The selected candidates will receive pay equal to their male counterparts and will be trained by the corporation for the role.

Miyawaki forest launched to mark World Environment Day
Mangaluru: A green initiative to mark World Environment Day 2025, Nitte (Deemed to be University) wasinaugurated a Miyawaki forest on its campus, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forest was formally launched on June 5 by Dr. Pratap Lingaiah, State NSS Officer, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Government of Karnataka. Dr. Lingaiah unveiled the commemorative plaque and planted a sapling to mark the occasion. Senior officials of Nitte University, including Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Deputy Registrar and Chief Coordinator of the SDG Cell Prof. (Dr.) Suma Ballal, NSS Coordinator Mr. Shashikumar Shetty, and SDG Cell Member Secretary Dr. Vinayaka B. Shet, were present at the event. The plantation drive was jointly organised by the university's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Cell and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit. Spread across 6,534 sq. ft within the university premises, the Nitte Miyawaki Forest features native species such as neem, kadamba, mango, golden shower, Ashoka, kokum, jackfruit, red sandalwood, and cinnamon. The Miyawaki method, pioneered by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki, is known for promoting dense, fast-growing forests using indigenous species that achieve self-sustainability within just two to three years. This initiative is part of the university's broader green mission, which has gained international recognition. Nitte University was ranked in the 301–400 band globally in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for its progress on the SDGs, and secured the 252nd position worldwide in the 2024 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. The university's adoption of the Miyawaki model underscores its proactive approach to ecological restoration and public awareness, aligning with this year's global theme of 'Ecosystem Restoration.'

World Environment Day held
Kurnool: District Collector P Ranjith Basha, Municipal Commissioner S Ravindra Babu, Kurnool RDO Sandeep Kumar, SEE, PCB Shankar Nayak, PCB, EE, P.V. Kishore Reddy, students, NGOs, industrial organisations, and NCC members participated in the World Environment Day meeting organised by the Pollution Control Board on Thursday at the Sunayana Auditorium in the Collectorate. The Collector and District Magistrate, Kurnool said that this world environmental day is important to identify the future problems and move towards eradication of those with other alternatives to plastic. The duo distributed certificates and mementos to winners and participants in competitions. Earlier, Joint Collector and Additional District Magistrate Dr B Navya inaugurated the rally organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board from Zilla Parishad to the Collectorate office. In this rally, she called upon everyone to work towards environmental protection. District Legal Service Authority B Leela Venkata Seshachadri, Kurnool RDO Sandeep, Industrial & Hospital Representatives, NCC, APPCB, Officials and staff were participated.

Vishnu Institute of Technology celebrates Environment Day
Bhimavaram: Principal Dr Mangam Venu of Vishnu Institute of Technology (Autonomous) here stated that the National Service Scheme unit of the college grandly celebrated World Environment Day on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the entire world celebrates World Environment Day on June 5, and in the same spirit, the college also organised the event on a grand scale. He said that NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in activities such as planting and distributing saplings.
